caspianoftheseaâ:
The memory caused a half smile to form on Caspianâs lips. As much as his disliked the surface world, he had to admit that the stars were beautiful. It was the one thing they didnât get to enjoy in Atlantis. Caspian couldnât imagine the feeling of a million shooting stars, but he knew what she meant. It had been the same way for him. In that moment it hit him like a ton of bricks, weighing heavy on his heart - there was no way they could actually be together. It didnât matter how much either of them, wanted it. The princess didnât know the whole story and he wasnât sure when she would. Pulling away from the kiss, Caspian hesitated before pulling all the way back and opening his eyes to look at her. The Kingâs words rung in his ears as his smile slowly faded. You have to stay away from her, Finley. Sheâs to be married within the next few months. Itâs been planned out already. âI donât think thatâs a good idea, Sirena. That year should be spent with you preparing for your future husband and with me preparing to join his guard. It will be a big transition for the both of us. Whoâs to say your future husband will even want me to continue to be your personal guard? He might send me back to your father. I just think we should focus on preparing for reality. The law may be antiquated but itâs still the law and you know your father will want you to marry a prince of his choosing.â Letting his arms fall to his sides, he took a step back. Putting distance between them made the most sense in the moment.
His response was one she didnât expect. Sirena was sure that heâd agree to stay with her. Theyâd figure it out, talk to her father. Had she read him all wrong? Impossible. He JUST finished kissing her. âWhy not--â She let him continued and sighed, nodding her head. So this was about the law after all. âI just thought...nevermind.â She just thought their love was strong enough. There was a clause in the law that states if she finds true love before her next birthday, she wouldnât have to follow it. Caspian had to be her true love! She felt it.â Her eyes filled with tears as she watched him pull away both literally and figuratively. Her heart plunged into her stomach and she bit the inside of her cheek, chewing away to stop herself from sobbing. âI donât want to marry someone else...â Sirena whispered and wiped her eyes. âIâm next up for the crown. I will be Queen once father steps down. I can change the law...I ---â But he had that look in his face. The same look sheâs known for ages now. Caspian had made up his mind. No matter what she said, how she said it, he was determined to let her go for the sake of what he thinks makes her happy. âPlease donât do this.â She sniffled and held on to her books tightly. âAt least...stay here. Please?â If he stayed, sheâd have him near. Maybe she was destined to be unhappy.Â
