i don’t use this anymore but i just wanted to come back to say fuck jkr

the hp series has brought a lot to my life & means a lot to me but it was really the fandom and the culture that surrounded it that made the entire experience so rewarding & warm

& the way jkr is movin recently goes against each and every ‘moral’ that might have been found in her books & her behavior is quite frankly disgusting 

anyways; jkr is shitty but it’s okay for us to still find warmth in harry’s story and from harry & his friends  death of the author and all; at this point harry’s world belongs more to us that it ever did to her

okay, so i really like this post but i’ve learned latin for many years at school and i am pretty sure this quote sucks. 

ego sum humana. in latin you do not need the “ego”. sum already means “i am”. you can use it but it sounds a bit odd so… next thing is “humana”. harry clearly is a boy so you have to use the male form “humanUS” a in the end means female or neutrum/plural. now the sentence would be “(ego) sum humanus”. still wrong, the verb usually is the last part. “ humanus sum ” you may keep the ego. 

the next part is also not very good as it is a quotation from the bible that means something different.  miscere and dolor are not the best choice. dolere means to feel the pain and can be used more easily. again we have the ego. the right form of dolere is doleo. so the second part is “ergo doleo”. a bit more complicated would be “ergo sentio dolorem”. and so on. now the order. “ergo dolorem sentio”

correct would be “humanus sum. ergo sentio dolorem”

I was going to comment myself on the grammar, but @gryffindork-thunderbitch‘s observations are all correct. I would go even further and suggest that instead of “Humanus sum” you could simply say “Homo sum” (literally “I am a man”), because 1) the Latin word “humanitas” usually has a metaphorical meaning (”kindness, nobility”… think Humanism) and 2) there is a beautiful quote from Terence that states “Homo sum, humani nihil a me alienum puto” (I am human, therefore–as a comedian–everything concerning human beings is relevant to me).

hi i’m back just to say!!! i took latin!!! i only had two years worth of education at this point but i was trying!!!! i was on a time crunch when i posted this graphic and i did the best i could with the resources i had

though ego is redundant it isn’t wrong, and at the point in time when i made this graphic i hadn’t been taught to forgo that word. i thought humana was a neuter nominative noun which was dumb on my part lol

perhaps i could’ve used better verbs for the meaning i was trying to imply but!!! let’s pretend it was artistic expression

anyways this post got a lot more attention than i ever wanted to so i just wanted to say i appreciate language!!! and i realize i was wrong!!! i just had no time to fix it and i appreciate your points but i was in no way trying to put this out there as a standard of the latin language
