Sculpt update on "Sleeping" Ripley - Narcissus Shuttle - ALIEN 79, 1:18 scale. Recreating the final scene in ALIEN where Ripley begins her ill fated hypersleep aboard the Narcissus shuttle. The figure casting has accrued some sculpting revisions - minor but needed. You may see some mild shading around the face, epoxy that was added especially for the cheekbones that had to be raised. The figure fits into a bedding that was sculpted with AVES FIXIT and shaped before curing to fit the figure in place. The canopy shots have been adjusted to soften the vacuumed plastic imperfections since it distorts the white resin copy of the sculpt beneath. So it's kinda like an overlay till the final figure is painted. So this piece will go into the Narcissus Shuttle diorama I am currently building. I am working on a sleeping Jones the Cat that will be included with Ripley within the pod. Thanks for your patience with the updates. I'm enjoying my new job and I feel I will be able to commit more time in the evenings to increase my sculpt work on the several projects you all have been following here. Must be doing something right then. LOL! Seriously now, this sculpt is of Ripley featuring the bedgown she wore at the end of the film where she tucks herself in for the unexpectedly extended sleep. Made some changes to the hair, sculpted the gown and sculpted the hands in the correct position which will help me build up the arms accurately to complete the piece. Next up is finishing a sleeping Jonesy (cat) and fitting her into the Narcissus sleep chamber. THRILLING isn't the word to describe what I'm feeling right now after receiving these pictures from Jean-Pierre Jeunet this morning of my Newborn (Alien: Resurrection) head sculpt on display along with various other miniatures made by fellow artists, Kazuhito Kimura, Dominique Roche and the director himself, Jean-Pierre Jeunet! So happy and thankful once again for the opportunity to contribute to a beautiful display full of brilliant work. I'm honored to be part of the CARO/JEUNET EXPO!!! Sculpt update on "Sleeping Ripley" and Jonesy the Cat - ALIEN 79 - Nostromo 1:18 scale. I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to work on this piece last week but from what progress I've made, I'm hoping that I can complete both sleeping versions of Ripley - one for the Nostromo Sleep Chamber and the other for the Narcissus by the end of this weekend. For this update, I've attached the upper arms/shoulders to the torso as well as sculpted the boxers each crew member wears while in their pod. Next step will be the lower arms, sculpting the hands, then fitting the figure properly into the pod. No progress yet on the Narcissus version but that will change after tonight's session. May sound a little silly seeing that many consider these current projects as "customs" ...but I've treated these static sculpt projects as if they were classical studies. I'm usually sculpting monsters or alien bodies so sculpting the human form is a real treat. Especially the female form which I consider a challenge. ...and Jonesy the cat. I completed the sculpt of him in a sitting pose a couple years back. Next will be a standing pose featuring a ball jointed neck and a sleeping version of Jonesy all curled up that will fit in both sleep chambers along with Ripley! I plan to do one additional variant of Jonesy hissing!! Quick update I know - more to come, promise. Had some fun with the camera this time around on some of the shots. Many have asked what scale my ALIEN figures (or custom figures in general) are sculpted in...some have even said they must be larger than the average 3.75" figures.....well, slightly. Just slightly...depends on what figure you compare them to. I just acquired the Super 7 wave three of the ALIEN Reaction figure line and thought it would be fun to pose a couple of them (still in package of course) with my sculpted counterparts. Kane in EVA Suit and Brett..."right". Both sculpts still have minor tweaks to work out but they are enough to demonstrate scale with the Super 7 versions. Only comparing the scale...not the complexity of the sculpts. In fact, I must say that Super 7 has captured likenesses brilliantly in these simple sculpts. Sculpt progress for the Nostromo crew - Sleep Chamber - Alien 79 - 1:18 scale. "Sleeping" Ripley is next. Taking the castings I made of my "Space Undies" Ripley (Narcissus) shown last week, a couple of head casts from my Warrant Officer Ripley figure, a Dremel, some sculpt tools, sandpaper and a heat gun, I've created two frames of Ripley sleeping in both the Nostromo and Narcissus sleep chambers. Next step will be sculpting the upper bodies, filling the seams, adding the arms and fitting the figures properly into their sleep pods. Takes a ton of dremeling, sculpting, sanding and filling...but it's all well worth it. Nostromo version will feature Ripley topless as it was originally intended. The Narcissus version will feature her in a robe.
