Artemisia Gentileschi‘s version (shown below) is known for being particularly gruesome. It was painted after she was raped. Quite unusually, she participated in the trial against her rapist (and was tortured during the trail to ensure she told the truth.)
Kehinde Wiley did an entire series about the representation of women in classical Western art, of which this piece was a part. This NY Mag profile from 2012 is really interesting if you want to learn more.
