I love music. I love making it. I love the creative process. I love listening to it. I love the gratifying feeling I get when someone likes a song I made. BUT, I truly believe that filmmaking is my calling. I’ve never felt more alive than when I’m creating entire narratives and characters with whole lives and backstories. i just want to make art that people appreciate but that also makes a difference. Anyone with half a brain can make a movie. But making something that will last... Now that is a true testament to greatness.

Dealing with raw human emotion is tough. I am writing this script through tears.

If Beale Street Could Talk is such a beautifully evocative film.

Barry Jenkins is brilliant. To be the first person to ever adapt James Baldwin for the screen, and to achieve it with such eloquence and attention to detail is something truly masterful. Films like these are rare, and Barry Jenkins has already made two.

I’m so thankful that talented black filmmakers are finally getting their say. We live in a whitewashed world, and directors like Barry Jenkins are here to remind us that black is beautiful. 🙏🏾

Nobody will probably even see this but I’m gonna just vent here for a second. I don’t understand how women can just date somebody for the time being because they want somebody to fuck, knowing full well that they will just move on and drop them like a hot cake when somebody better comes along or the person they really want becomes available. I’ve never gone into a relationship knowing it was going to be temporary. You live and learn, but doing shit like that to people just seems petty and cruel. People have no sense of morality when it comes to dating. So many women (and men for that matter) just use people for sex under the guise of a “relationship”. If you’re just fucking someone, okay, call it like it is. But if you’re supposedly committed to someone and you’re still fucking with other people on the side the whole time because your relationship is just stable sex, you’re honestly a terrible person. I would never do that to someone. I’ve cheated before. I’m not perfect. But it was towards the end of the relationship and I didn’t go into said relationship knowing that it was going to be temporary. I can honestly say I’ve never used someone for sex. And I never will. That is just fucking awful to do to someone. Telling them you love them just because you can’t go without sex long enough to find a decent partner. We are living in a demonstrably indecent time. It’s the most depressing shit. If the air quality doesn’t kill me I’ll probably just lose my will to live and die one day because it’s hard to be optimistic when every facet of society is just a solid pile of shit.

I don’t understand how people can be fake towards each other in relationships. Just going along pretending to care until something better comes along. How is that okay to do to someone? If I’m unhappy in a relationship, trust me, you’ll know. I can’t pretend to love somebody. That goes against the core of my being. If you fucked up with me, you’re gonna know you fucked up. Ain’t no “imma just keep pretending until I can sneak away quietly”. Fuck that. Address the problem(s) and keep it pushing, or don’t, and keep it pushing. Cuz with or without you, imma keep it pushing.

Christmas gets worse every year. It’s like life is just trying to tell me something. I’ve discovered why I have such severe apprehension for the holidays. Something bad always happens. Someone dies. I get cheated on. A relationship ends. Every year it’s something new. I’m not a fan of this time of year at all. I’m just ready to turn a new leaf and start a new year. Probably just to end up in the same boat at the end, but that’s life. Still. Fuck the holidays man.
