LORD HURON & sentence starters
â  they say love is like ghosts.  â  â  i know that iâm damned.  â  â  all the dead seem to know where i am.  â â  iâm going away for a long time.  â â  die if i must, let my bones turn to dust. â    â  they come rising up into the night.  â  â  all your temples will lie in ruin once i ravage through them.  â  â  you were mighty.  â  â  all your rivals would not go near you, but i do not fear you.  â  â  but i bow no longer.  â  â  i sleep with one eye open.  â  â  but iâm not afraid to fight.  â  â  i canât trust anyone or anything these days.  â  â  iâve decided, even if it kills me iâll find out what youâre about.  â  â  you are not the one you say you are. â  â  show your face.  â  â  i canât escape the feel that youâll meet me in the night.  â  â  i know what you want, and why. â  â  few have seen it, but everybody talks.  â  â  spirits follow everywhere i go.  â  â  they sing all day and they haunt me in the night.  â â  what ainât living can never really die.  â    â  you donât want me, please donât lie.  â  â  if youâre leaving, i gotta know why.  â  â  do you see no ghosts in me at all?  â  â  there ainât language for the things i feel.  â  â  i donât feel it âtil it hurts sometimes.  â  â  i want ours to be an endless song.  â      â  darkness brings evil things.  â  â  you can run, but you cannot escape.  â  â  i donât know how to right the wrongs iâve done.  â  â  i donât know how to fight what i canât see.  â  â  iâve got to clear my name.  â  â  i look into those eyes and see the endless night staring back.  â  â  iâve done things that have no name.  â   â  iâm a goner i guess.  â   â  now the darkness has a hold on me.  â  â  the truth is stranger than my own worst dreams.  â  â  i have seen what the darkness does.  â  â  say goodbye to who i was.  â  â  follow me into the endless night.  â  â  donât look back; those days are gone.  â  â  i can bring your fears to light.  â  â  i am ready to follow you, even though i donât know where.  â  â  it feels like i have been away for an era, but nothing has changed.  â  â  i donât want to be the only one living when all of my friends are gone.  â  â  'good for nothingâ is the name theyâll remember me by.  â  â  i turned my back on the world.  â  â  iâm just living to die.  â â  iâd given up on living until i met you.  â â  i feel alive when iâm with you.  â    â  i wasnât always like this.  â   â  years have gone by, but the pain is the same.  â  â  youâre the purest soul iâve ever known.  â  â  death is a wall, but it canât be the end.  â  â  i did it all for you.  â Â

âItâs alright,â she had tuned most of it out anyways. âBut if      you would ever like to play another song, I would be more      than happy to teach you.â
â you can play? â he sounds surprised, which he probably shouldnât. a moment to consider her offer, and then-- â i think iâd like that. âÂ

âIâm workshopping nicknames. I have to make my affection for you known somehow, evidently.â Itâs tongue in cheek, figuratively at first, then literally, for a few smirking seconds. When heâs quiet, theyâre quiet, and when he makes something of a confession, they take it as a victory in a gracious kind of way. Lithe competitiveness is glad to have played the truth out of him, but for the most part theyâre comforted, and maybe a little sad. A beat of silence passes and if he lets them, Kennedy takes his hand by the wrist for a few paces, slipping down and holding palm to palm before letting go again. Itâs a simple reply, their best effort at not making conversation out of something he doesnât want to talk about: they would prefer it if Bishop were to come back in one piece, too.
he understands the meaning of their action but that doesnât make it any less odd. people donât hold his hand, donât touch him like that. not anymore. not for a long time. he canât quite decide whether or not itâs welcome, but thereâs some sort of pang in his chest and he decides that he doesnât want to address it.Â
( heâs starved for affection, wonât admit it to himself. which means he definitely wonât be admitting it to anybody else any time soon either. )Â
he shrugs it all off.Â
â câmon, then. lead the way, ainât got a clue where it is iâm goinâ. âÂ

âAdmitting weakness only allows those who take advantage of it an easier route.â She huffed as she decided against moving and then went back to where she had been before, slouched against the wall once more. Her dark eyes laid on her knees, hating the weakness and pain. A fractured rib and, at least, a largely bruised back, though the most likely culprit was a few cracked vertebrate. âWhy do you care anyway? Itâs not like weâre the best of friends.â
â god knows why, but i donât much like seeinâ folks sufferinâ when they donât gotta. â she seems determined to, however. there isnât a bit of him that thinks to simply leave her there after she shows that she canât get herself moving. â ainât no shame in needinâ help. i got a horse, i can get you somewhere. to someone you trust. âÂ

There was absolutely no way Alice could move the man physically of her own doing and she didnât need a second glance to tell her so.  Alice wasnât the madam of the saloon ( never had the ambition to go for it ) and though she knew she had an obligation to make sure money kept coming in, if this was the hand she was dealt, this was what she was going to work with.  If the madam deemed it necessary the ( possibly dead ) man be moved, she could pay off some gentlemen to get it done.
âMoving tables sounds fair enough to me.â  Alice decreed.  âYou didnât know him at all, did you?â  She asked, gesturing to the man - who sheâd be happy to see far away from where anyone would be sitting and trying to enjoy themselves this evening.
his actions answer that question easily enough: bishop pilfers the last half-full bottle of booze on the table and takes a quick swig as he heads to a new one. heâll be fine ( bishop would do something if there were any real risk, and not just because of his samaritan reflex ) but maybe not so appreciative of his choices whenever he wakes up.Â
â he wanted to celebrate some kinda thing. never seen him before in my life. â it was his first bounty or something. bishop had just wanted a drink and they were going free. â doubt heâll remember me even if i meet him again. --you not recognise him either? seemed the type who might be a regular. âÂ
