Getting ID is Expensive and a Pain in the Ass

Proving who you are in this country is expensive and a pain in the ass. I need to renew my driver's license; so I decided to finally get a real ID.

The fee for that is $41. But I apparently don't have the right kind of birth certificate so I have to order one. I decided to use the online system figuring that would be easier. 

I uploaded by birth certificate and my 2 bills showing I am a resident of CA. The automated system took the birth certificate I have.

When I got to AAA today, the Real ID ladies told me that the type of certificate I have is not acceptable despite, in fact being a valid government-issued document.

I have to have a full version. How do you get a full version?

You can't get a birth certificate on the same day unless you were born in the last 2 years. So the best option is the online system.

It cost $29 + a $14 processing fee. But wait, since you are applying online, you then have to get the application notarized. That costs $25.

So to get a Real ID to prove that I'm me, it's cost me $109.  And I have to wait 8-10 weeks.

Oh, and then when I get my birth certificate, I have to go back to the AAA and actually get my Real ID.

If I had a valid passport, I could have used that instead of a birth certificate, but guess what? You need a full birth certificate to apply for a passport.

How does anyone who doesn't have money or tech resources get a copy of their documentation? It's ridiculous

He openly mocked a disabled reporter. Do you think in his fascist government, services for the disabled would continue? Would the most vulnerable survive?

Hitler didn’t just kill Jews; he killed anyone he found undesirable, including the disabled.

In the world of Gilead, my sister would be killed, and I would be killed trying to protect her.

I know that is fiction, but we came so close to losing our democracy, and we cannot just let that go and move on.

What would our country look like today if they had succeeded on January 6th?

We can never let fascism take root in America. The most vulnerable of our society would suffer first and suffer the most.

Trump & anyone who helped try to overthrow our democracy must. be. held. accountable.

People like my sister are depending on it.

i was trying to make my friend a bday cake but the dye on the decorative icing started leaking and dripping everywhere so it accidentally became the most ominous and violent looking baked good ive ever seen…… i slapped on some sprinkles to try and make it less threatening looking. it worked a little bit.
