Why football and footballers are the opposite of toxic masculinity: an essay

1. That’s right. Men aren’t supposed to cry, regardless of the reason for their tears, but plenty of footballers do. Examples:
2. Men are also not supposed to show love/affection for other men, regardless of their relationship towards each other (ie, brothers, best friends, etc). Hugs, kisses, holding hands are all forms of weakness. But plenty of footballers do these things anyway. Examples:

Footballers also show physical signs of weakness, they trip and fall and lay there in pain, even if only for a moment, instead of pretending it didn’t happen and just “walking it off.” That being said, even with more serious injuries, many players do not want to be removed and forced to miss the game, even when bleeding. These men are all respected athletes and no one questions their masculinity and even if someone did they probably wouldn’t care anyway that’s all thanks for coming to my ted talk. ✌️
