Blowdrying

Step 1 - Ensure the hair is towel dried and apply heat protecting spray 

Step 2 - Section the hair with clips 

Step 3 - using a hair brush, dry the hair by guiding the brush down and applying the heat 

Step 4 - continue until every section is dry 

Step 5 - style as desired

Washing the hair

We also learnt to wash hair but I have no pictures of this - 

Step 1 - being by wetting the hair 

Step 2 - add shampoo and massage through hair 

Step 3 - rinse out the shampoo 

Step 4 - apply conditioner and massage in to the hair leave to soak in for a second 

Step 5 - rinse thoroughly to ensure there is no conditioner left in 

Step 6 - wrap a towel around the hair

Welcome to my hair blog, below are different hair looks that I have done throughout my first year studying Makeup Artistry at The Manchester College. I feel like I have learnt many different skills throughout my year here and I can't wait to learn more.

2 Stem Waterfall

Step 1. Starting near the hairline, I picked up three strands of hair.

Step 2. Crossing the strand closest to the top of your head (1) over the middle section (2).

Step 3. I then crossing the bottom section (3) over the new middle section (1).

Step 4. Crossing the new top section (2) over the new middle (3), and then the bottom (1) over the middle (2).

Step 5. Dropped the middle strand (2) down, so it blends in with the rest of the hair.

Step 6. This strand (4) became my new top section— I crossed it over the middle to continue the braid.

Step 7. Secured the braid behind the ear with a grip.

Straighteners

Step 1 – Begin by sectioning the hair and use heat protect spray

Step 2 – Gather a half-inch section of hair and separate it.

Step 3 – place section into straighteners and pull down around to the right continuing until you were at the end of the piece.

Step 4 – Continue until all hair is straight

Step 5 – Spray hairspray all over the hair.

Wands

Step 1 – begin by sectioning the hair, brush section and secure with clip, use heat protect spray.

Step 2 – Gather a small amount of hair and wrap around the curling wand, hold there for about 20 seconds. Repeat until all hair is curled.

Step 3 – Apply hairspray.

this is personally my favourite way to curl hair

Tongs

Step 1 – Heat protect spray

Step 2 – Begin by sectioning the hair, brush the section and secure.

Step 3 – Gather a small section and add into the tongs. Roll the hair around the tong close tong to secure and leave for approx. 20 seconds. Repeat until all hair is curled.

Step 4 - Once all the hair is curled, then secure with hairspray.

Bridesmaid Updo 

Step 1 - protect the hair with heat protecting spray 

Step 2 - Curl the hair with preferred method 

Step 3 - put half the hair in to a low ponytail 

Step 4 - Wrap half the hair around the pony tail 

Step 5 - with the other half wrap around the other ponytails 

Step 6 - wrap all the pony tail in to a half wrap and secure with grips

Step 7 - use the sides and wrap them around each other and secure under the hair in the bobble

Step 8 - spray with hairspray

1960′s Beehive

Step 1 - protect the hair with spray 

Step 2 - section the hair from the top of the head, down to the ears 

Step 3 - section again at the back, in a half up half down style 

Step 4 - Curl the under section of the hair - Tip used heated rollers for height

Step 5 - begin by backcombing the top section of the hair, it needs to be backcombed a lot for extra height and effect 

Step 6 - don't back comb the top layer in order for the look to be smooth

Step 7 - secure the hair with hair grips at the back 

Step 8 - with the hair that is hanging loose wrap in to a circle and secure with hair grips 

Step 9 - curl the front pieces of the hair 

Step 10 - Hairspray the hair to secure

Half up Half Down Hair Do 

Step 1 - begin by using heat protective spray 

Step 2 - straighten the hair 

Step 3 - Part the hair using the tail end of a comb and begin backcombing 

Step 4 - backcomb using a ‘C’ movement in different ways to ensure the bomb will be perfect 

Step 5 - don't backcomb the last sections of the hair then they can be smoothed over in to the bump 

Step 6 - pull the sides around and secure in a X with hair grips

Step 7 - Spray with hair spray

Pin Curls

Step 1 - Use heat protect spray 

Step 2 - Curl the hair using preferred method e.g. tongs, straighteners, wand

Step 3 - Wrap the curl around in to the natural way it curls

Step 4 - Secure with hair grips 

Step 5 - Spray with Hairspray or use heat activating PLI 

This is the perfect way to ensure your curls stay perfectly intact

Victory Rolls

Step 1 – Brush through hair and section into the front two bits and the back.

Step 2 – Curl the back section of the hair and add slight back comb to the not area.

Step 3 – Back comb the front section to about half way down, then begin to roll them around four fingers on the opposite hand and secure with pins. Mess with the rolls until they are how you want them to look.

Step 4 – repeat on other side.

Step 5 – Roll hair under at the back for an authentic 1940’s feel.

Step 6 – Secure with hairspray

Bridal Hair - Half Up Half Down

Step 1 – Brush hair.

Step 2 – Curl hair.

Step 3 – Grab two small sections of hair from the front and secure them with a bobble at the back of the head and add a bobble at the bottom of the pony tail.

Step 4 – Take the bobble and twist it over to create a more bow-how look. Then the hair from either side and twist it around the pony then entwine.

Step 5 – Add Gypsophila.

Step 6 – Secure with hairspray.

Half Up, Half Down – Fish Tail

Step 1 – Brush straight hair and curl with preferred curling technique.

Step 2 – Begin sectioning the hair at the back to start back combing for volume.

Step 3 – Back comb by splitting into small straight sections, left, right, then straight for the best results. Once at desired height. Then smooth the top two layers of hair and secure with hair grips.

Step 4 – Taking the front section, split into 2 sections and complete fish tail braid. Do so on both sides.

Step 5 – Secure with grips and finish with hairspray.

Hair Twist Updo

Step 1 – Begin by brushing and sectioning the hair.

Step 2 - Curl the hair using preferred curling technique.

Step 3 - Section the hair down the middle to the ears and section clip that away from the hair at the back.

Step 4 – Turn the curls into pin curls and pin some up on the base of the head and then wind some hair through them. Continue doing this until all hair at the back is up and entwine together leave the curls loose.

Step 5 – Gather up one of the front sections and turn into 3 equal sections, then plait. Complete this on the other section.

Step 6 - Secure the hair with a pin after intertwining in the back.

Step 7 - Spray all hair with hairspray.

Space Buns

Step 1 – Begin by brushing the hair and splitting it down the middle into a centre parting. Ensure the scalp is a clean, straight line.

Step 2 – Pull one side of the hair into a high side pony tail, neaten the sides and secure bobble.

Step 3 – wrap hair around bobble and secure with another bobble.

Step 4 – Mess with the bun to achieve the look you want.

Step 5 – Repeat on other side.

Step 6 – Use Hairspray to neaten the sides and secure fly away hairs.

Heated Rollers

Step 1 - Begin by sectioning the hair, down from the top to the ears and securing with sectioning clips.

Step 2 - Using a taill comb gather smaller sections, that are not longer than the roller and pull the hair up and backwards. Then roll the roller through the hair and secure with a pin. Spray hair with heat activating PLI. 

Step 3 - Continue doing this throughout the hair in a ‘brickwork’ motion until the back of the hair is complete. Every roller should be secured with a pin.

Step 4 – Using the same rolling technique, complete the left and right side of the hair.

Step 5 – Once all hair is secured in rollers spray with hairspray.

Step 6 – To remove the rollers, remove the pins and roll out the hair, then style how you wish.
