David Walmsley & Adam Nagaitis in To Walk Invisible (2016)
Yuri Gagarin, the hobbyist photographer, at home with his wife.
Yuri Gagarin being identified only as an amateur photographer and not literally the first human in space has me on the floor
This is a good reminder that there is a lot of texture and complexity to people; every human contains lots of aspects that would be completely unrelated if not for the fact that the same person experiences them. It’s easy to forget this, and compress the people you meet into a caricature; even celebrities usually end up being famous for one thing alone. But even something as glorious as the first space travel by a living human does not fully encompass a life.
This, too, is Yuri.
unrelated but: what on earth is that behind Mrs. Gagarin?
the lower part looks like a radio, but the upper part looks like a screen and I cannot work out what that would have been?
can anyone help?
It’s a console that combines radio and record player.
Something like this:
Adam Nagaitis as Vasily Ignatenko in the HBO miniseries ‘Chernobyl’ (2019)
Chernobyl was actually the first time I saw Adam Nagaitis after The Terror. I haven’t watched any of his other movies yet back then, so I still had him ingrained in my mind only as Hickey. I was floored by how sweet and pure and touchingly young Vasily was :( how different was my perception of him, and how completely different AN looked in his normal non-starving body. What gets me is that the two shows came out just a year apart, so the casting for Chernobyl must’ve happened sometime in early 2018. Makes one wonder if they really looked at him, probably still deep in his haunted Hickey phase, and thought, "Yep, that’s our cute little Soviet firefighter" XD... I knooow he's an Actor, and he can switch it on and off, but it still fascinates me that this is his first role after Cornelius bloody Hickey.
t...they
You could also stick your tongue down his throat and it would be more subtle

THIS DRAWING WAS MADE 700 YEARS AGO BY A 7-YEARS-OLD BOY NAMED ONFIM WHO LIVED IN NOVOGROD.
more of onfime’s drawings:
I had courses of Old East Slavic and Old Slavonic in university so I thought why not describe what it says :)
First of all I’d like to make it clear that his name is Onfim, not Onfime as it says on english wikipedia. I guess the confusion came from this
On the outer side of manuscript 199 it’s written “a bow from Onfim to Danila” (something like a hi to a friend, Danila could be one of his peers) and “I’m a beast”
I also like manuscript number 46 (author unknown, 1320-1340 A.D)
there’s also a manuscript (Zven. 3 (it’s from Zvenigorod Galitsky), author unknown and dates from about 1120-1140 A.D) that only has a weird ass drawing and a letter “a” on it, and honestly, 900 years later my lecture notes look exactly the same

Now he going to play one!
dwelling on the extremely bleak davecella implication that hickey is a surviver of severe child abuse and the light that throws on his desperate attempts to form a bond with a man or a being much more powerful than himself & his belief - which is borderline delusional in its intensity and irrationality - that doing so is possible for him and will result in him being lifted from his lowly position to become an equal with his new partner & how his attempts end with him badly brutalized, punished as a boy by crozier and then torn apart and devoured by the tuunbaq. like he's trying to recreate the past in order to rewrite it but instead keeps getting the same story every time
in the light of 'would hickey even go to a mental health specialist and take prescribed medication' debacle i feel especially tempted to say that: yes he would, because modern hickey would be a way more chill and normal guy. much of his hickeyness comes from a) state of constant need and b) inability to leave it behind. make upward social mobility possible and he's already less of a murderhobo and more of a moderately narcissistic twitter jackass
