Here is an excerpt from Alice Auaa’s website explaining the brand’s concept, “Alice Auaa designs do not merely categorize duality, such as beauty and ugliness, and light and shadow, through a decadent and surreal filter based on the color black. but rather convey a mode of avant-garde and romanticism based on the endless motif of the time of life in everything (creation from destruction), and the elegance and eroticism that dwells in incommodiousness”

According to JapaneseStreets.com, “The brand was founded by Japanese fashion designer Yasutaka Funakoshi shortly after a devastating quake destroyed his hometown of Kobe. Funakoshi had already managed his own shop for a few years, but the experience of the quake inspired him to start his own fashion line. Starting a new business amidst all the destruction and hopelessness must have required much courage, but Funakoshi dryly states that he saw it as an opportunity because many companies had gone out of business and, as he explains it, it became comparatively easy to rent space.”
Lady Gaga chose Alice Auaa for her press conference to promote "ARTPOP" when she visited Japan in December 2013. This was huge for the brand and exponentially helped with their growth.
Alice Auaa has also been worn by Yoshiki from X Japan,
Personally I adore Alice Auaa! I could watch their runways for hours, but I could only dream of owning pieces from them because I work minimum wage lol! Maybe one day.
