SJ comic art style study

Was thinking of doing some background studies for the SJ comic's style and realized I'd never drawn an Aku City nightclub before, so naturally I ended up drawing Mira in one lol.

one of the backgrounds i rly love from samjack is the 'metal eating family' section of S2E2. the colors are just so pleasant its a gorgeous pallet

Wanted to use this panel's color palette for the artwork.

Ngl these studies helped a lot. Like I learned to focus more on the energy of a pose than perfect lines and use a limited palette to point the focus and use lighting color as a mood maker instead of stressing over whether it makes sense.

I started this as "I want to draw Mira in casual clothes" but I wanted it to have a story+emotion, so I went with what felt most fitting for her, tired, guard down, and lost in thought.

Wanted to draw Demongo in the comic's style. I noticed Andy Suriano (the artist) used tree bark like empty lines to break up Aku's pitch black parts, so I added them to Demongo too. But instead of Aku's evil ent look, I went for more of a talking scarecrow vibe.
