This took way too long so I don't particularly like the comic anymore but I think Grian would have needed a good huh after all that emotional stuff hehehehe

im really happy with how grianās cape poncho thing turned out, for some reason?? i also said one day id draw wings again because i actually love them and i did and i can confirm i do still love them
this is basically meant to be grian clipping his wings because the watchers donāt like that he has an advantage- flight. and itās not like he likes his wings anyway, so heād rather recut them every time they molt than bind them to his back.
i did also do a background for this but i didnāt like it much and i reckon it takes away from g himself

Guess who finished their hc11 starter bases zine??
(itās me. i finished my zine. about a month ago and i completely forgot to post it.)
tons of talking under the cut!
thereās four bases in this one- scar, mumbo, joel and gem!! i would have loved to expand on it, but because it was for my graphics class there were definitely a few restrictions with formatting and things. the zine is eight pages including the cover and back, but because i chose to do double page spreads, it only looks like five. and i think i would have liked to do it all digitally, but for higher marks you need to use a range of medias so we used monoprinting, digital and collage!
scarās one was done in around an hour for the cover, and i do actually really like how it turned out! i think itās really recognisable from anyone whoās specifically a hc fan with the base and logo, and just in general anyone who likes minecraft from the mojangles font! though i am a little sad that the quality was properly wrecked when i printed the zine but whateverrrr
mumboās was done over a few lessons where we messed around with monoprinting and then photoshop afterwards. i LOVED doing mumboās as he did all the hard work for me in thinking about compositions when he was building it. monoprinting is definitely a tricky media i think but i did enjoy it, even if adding colour and details in photoshop was 100% not my thing, so i was pretty buns at it. but i do like how it turned out!
joelās was totally my favourite to do, because not only was he my favourite base, he was also my favourite media. iām very comfortable with digital, and even though this drawing was done a while ago and i have definitely improved, i genuinely think itās one of my favourite things iāve drawn. this one took only three-ish hours i think?
i am very sorry to gem. her base is lovely. i would do it justice if i could. but collage and i are actually mortal enemies. itās so hard. i hate it. i think the base looks close enough in shape or whatever, but the colours are not it. though i will say i used a holographic card for the water and lanterns, and although i am sad it didnt look as cool as it could have when i scanned it, i am pleased it didnāt turn out like bright red. in hindsight i should have tested it beforehand, but weāll take the miracle.
all in all, this zine was very very fun to do, and i am so glad i got to do it for school. i would just draw minecraft fanart for an hour after double maths. and for anyone curious, i got a grade eight for it along with coursework!! which is like an a* apparently

i always liked the idea of mezalean joel getting his hair braided when he was younger, and when he met the codfather with his perfect long hair he couldnāt resist the moment they got some time alone.
for this one i messed around with some colour jittering and i do think it makes things look a lot more visually interesting, but you have to be really careful with how you mark make and how large your brush is, because it makes a huge difference on whether you colour in lines or circles, or if your brush is wider or thinner. and i couldnāt use my goat the bucket tool so i was utterly screwed. the timelapse is always one of my favourite parts of finishing something but i actually canāt bring myself to watch this one because it is literally just me colouring in tiny tiny circles. itās probably a good five minutes of me just looping round and round with a size 7 brush.
i think the background on this one is pretty buns too, but i like the idea of making it almost look like a conversation going on, i just donāt think i could figure out how to properly execute it well. that being said hereās an alt version without the background
i will say though i do like the shading on this one, and how you can see the coloured gradient in it. i think you can tell really clearly on the tail of jimmyās plait how it goes from a green to a pink. and i enjoyed messing round with those little flyways, joelās swirly thing and jimās bangs too on the hair.
my friend told me the other day when i posted i analysed my own art and it was weird (not really but they prolly meant it like that). and i want them to know as i write this i think of you. and i will continue to write paragraphs and paragraphs analysing my own art. haha
