Friends, Romans, Countrymen
It’s been a good run. This tumblr has gone so much further than I thought it would. Honestly, my freshman year during finals I was bored of watching Game of Thrones, JohnnyKlister was on “hiatus”, and I was craving some ski humor. So I decided to start skierssaywhat and lo and behold, look at what it became.
I will admit this year I was less than active. But in all honesty, what do you expect from a senior in college? Skiing has been such a huge part of my life. Racing, training, living the ski lifestyle, I’m so lucky to have had the opportunity to do everything that I’ve been able to do. Skiing has taken me from a small little ski mountain in Western Maine to New Zealand, Alaska, Minnesota, California, and of course all over New England chasing down EISA Carnivals. But that part of my life is now coming to a close. I graduate this Saturday and I start grad school in less than 10 days.
Holy shit I’m old.
So I guess I should tell you who I am and what I do besides ski. My name is Shelby Aseltine and I am a senior at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. I’m an English Major, Teaching minor, ski enthusiast, and Alex Harvey superfan. While my skiing career in college has been an amazing experience and it has made me grow exponentially as human being, it’s time to move forward and begin the next chapter. It’s scary knowing that I won’t be spending hours upon hours on roller skis this summer or racing this coming winter, but at the same time, I think it’s time for me to keep moving forward.
Not to get sappy, I’m known to do that, but if I can you leave you all with one piece of advice, it would be to enjoy every moment you get to spend doing what you love. Seriously, we do the most incredible sport and we are surrounded by such incredible people. Soak it up, enjoy it, see where it takes you. I’ll miss you all. Thank you for being such awesome people. Keep chasing the dream.
cheers for the last time,
-Me.
ps. Go U Bears
