First of all, I'd really like to thank people for giving advice. Most of what people have said were comments. I think maybe I could give more details on my parameters?
So, I've been doing on and off research on types of pet birds for about a year. At the moment, the extend of my planning is primarily hypothetical. My largest concern is my ability to provide consistent care for the animal, since the last thing I want to do is create a situation where the bird is neglected or something. So, details on what type of stimulation and maintenance work any given type of bird needs is pretty critical to me. That's the primary concern.
But some secondary concerns.
Firstly, my dog. She is adorable. I do not want to risk her hurting the bird. I think this is a minor concern because I assume that's what cages and doors are for? But, I definitely don't want to create a situation where the dog is harassing the bird.
Second thing is definitely noise concerns. I frankly wish I could get better hands on experience with that since "this bird isn't that loud" doesn't mean anything to me (I'm a bit too used to people downplaying/lying about how much of an issue something is). I have noise cancelling headphones to help counter the issue, but I also get noise sensitivity, which gets really jank because some noises end up really bothering me regardless of volume while other noises just don't. So, I honestly don't know how that would turn out with any species of bird.
So, I've looked into pigeons, but I've also heard that they're really dusty and not good for people with asthma, which is why I gave up on the pigeon idea, since my mom and I both have asthma. But otherwise a pigeon seems more or less ideal. I've looked somewhat into doves, I think I fell out of looking into them because resources on them were hard to come by, so really, any help on the resources thing would be highly appreciated.
I'd prefer a bird that's happy being inside. I think I'd get too anxious about wildlife and I'm not sure where I'd stick the bird outside.
Space is a moderate consideration, but I do believe there's plenty of space, assuming the bird doesn't require, like, a 9x9 ft enclosure or something.
Another thing is that I'm currently living with my parents and sister. So, the bird would need to be able to tolerate house traffic.
But yeah, that's everything I can think of regarding parameters. Any advice really is appreciated. <3
