Another Year of Skramz Feels

2016 was a really fucked up year, both in world events and in my personal life. Fortunately, there was also some really good music released. In no particular order, here are some releases that I liked this year.

Suffocate For Fuck Sake - In My Blood

This album is basically everything I like about heavy, atmospheric screamo. Those Swedes really know how to make the shit out of a record.

Amygdala - Population Control

The production on the album is super wild, the songs are all total jams, and angry music from marginalized people is kinda the whole point of this genre, so it’s cool to see it pulled off this well.

Viva Belgrado - Ulises

The last Viva Belgrado album, Flores, Carne, was one of my favourite releases of 2014, so I wasn’t too shocked to find out their new album is also a total banger.

Gillian Carter - Dreams of Suffocation

This band has been killing it for over a decade now. Their reign continues into 2016 with this super sick album.

Vivre sa Vie - Demo

More cool Swedes doing cool things. I’m hoping we get a full-length or something from these folks in 2017, because this demo rules.

Parenthesis - Quiet Desperation

This EP reminds me of some of the chiller euroskramz that was coming out of France and Italy in the mid-2000s, but this band is from Singapore, which is super cool.

La Bella - Ides

If you thought dancey West Coast screamo died when Comadre broke up, you thought wrong, motherfucker. La Bella is carrying that torch, and they’re doing a super good job of it.
