No matter how many months and days go by, the pain still lingers. The fire cackled softly as the heat flickers against the shadows. Dancing among a room like no care in the world, it dances as it was alive, moving as if it was full of life. Like him.
Sitting beside the fire place and just staring at the flames; it was warm enough to bring some comfort, but what comfort was to give? Hiccup just looked at the flames as it dances, the light it gives as it lights the whole room. Tapping his finger on the table, he glanced around the room like heâs waiting for someone, glancing around once too many times. Bitting his bottom lip, his eyes shifted back to the warm embrace infront of him.
Itâs empty in this room, something felt missing. It felt wrong. A fainted memory perhaps? Or cruel joke his mind liked to use against itself. Hiccup just kept staring at the fire pit. If only I was there, if I were they to help. If IâŠ
With thoughts rushing in, a familiar grumble was beside him. Toothless nudged his head against Hiccupâs hand, maybe a reminder of the current present of this world. Back from the haze, Hiccup gazed back at his beloved Nightfury. âHey budâŠâ it was a soft greeting but a needed one. The comfort he could get in this home. Everything was wrong. It felt empty. Something was missing.
Toothless looked up at Hiccup and back at the flame. The two gazed at the fireplace. Those green eyes looked back at his rider, with that gummy mouth, Toothless let out a sound. Scratching the back of dragonâs neck scales, Hiccup just sighed. âI know buddy⊠I miss him too.â The flames cackle through the silence.
Winter was the hardest for the two. It was his favorite season of all. Hiccup always imagined him making piles of snow balls, telling stories during Snoggletoff, making snowmen, snowdragons. Skating against the icy waters, and just playing underneath the snowflakesâ
OhâŠ. it was memories he could never forget. Hiccup could never forget it. The rider and his dragon sat in silence as they watched the warm flame dance. There wasnât much to do or say. Just sulk in their wooden home. Every Viking was asleep in their own, all the dragons as well. No one to talk to but each other now.
Hiccup and Toothless just stayed within the warmth of the flame as the unmerciful winter night blows outside. Hiccupâs eyes were still kept on the orange hue, something that distracts him from the memories. Lost in the haze, Toothless suddenly perked up as he gazed at the door. The dragon got up and went over, catching Hiccupâs gaze.
âWhat is it bud?â Noting the dragon was staring at the door. Toothless kept looking at with curiosity. Sitting down and titling his head. Curious, Hiccup soon followed his dragon. Pushing himself up from the wooden chair and to the door, the wood creaking below him as the flame still danced behind him. It was an odd thing for him to do but it was something to at least investigate.
The two looked at the door like they are waiting for someone to come in. Hiccup didnât know how long but long enough for him to realize. Shaking his head in disappointment. âThere isnât anything there..â Hiccup sighed. âJust the wind buddy. Jackâs not coming back.â Disappointment fell onto Hiccupâs face. Itâs been known but still hurts admitting it out loud. The fire cackles and pops in the back, still filling the silence out alongside the whistles of the winters wind.
He was to walk alway until Toothless whined. The Nightfury let out a sound as he stood up, looking back at Hiccup and the door. âToothless. Itâs just the wind.â But the dragon disagrees. Looking back at the door, he whines, he wished to be out, to open that door and greet the snowflakes outside.
âToothless enough!â Hiccup spoke loudly. âThereâs nothing out there, heâs not out there.â Sadness followed behind him, swallowing harshly, Hiccup softened his tone. âHeâs gone⊠Heâs gone bud..â Toothless stayed quiet as he kept gazing at the door. He didnât want to leave the door, something was out there but what? The dragon canât prove it to his rider.
Toothless kept his gaze at the door, and waited for something. A single tap was heard. Hiccup stayed quiet when he heard it, it was faint but he can hear it. It was different. It wasnât the wind or flame. It was a soft tap that shouldnât be made from the wind. The two waited for something else to come up. Was it real or something Hiccup imagined.
Itâs been a year since Jackâs death. Despite it being so many weeks, winter doesnât hesitate to bring that dread back. His death broke everything within Hiccup, remembering like it was yesterday, he can remember it all too well. When news went around Berk about Jackâs death broke everything. How he went to the lake to retrieve a sheep who was lost from the herd. The shepherds boy was arrogant but filled with good. Adults disliked him but children loved him.
Hiccup can never forget the moment when news came out that Jack drowned in the pond, all for getting a lost sheep. He can remember the countless hours of his sleepless nights, the days of trying to find his body, but he never did.
The small tapping returned on the door. Toothless gazed back at Hiccup, letting out a small mumble. Hiccup finally gave in and opened the door. Besides a stranger, they were greeted by the cold air blowing in the skies and snowflakes flying within the winds. Hiccup and Toothless looked around for a while. Nothing, no Viking outside, no dragon or some sort of snow. Only some frosting on the wooden door. Only small patterns that slowly grown against the frost. Hiccup didnât seem to notice them, not even acknowledging the growing frost.
With a heavy sigh, he looked at Toothless and shook his head. Closing the door shut tight, the two just went back to the fire on this cold, wintery night.
They donât seem to be threatening.. are they? Their just standing there. Watching us in the rain
Itâs a dragon and its rider for sure but they seem.. odd. The dragon looks to be some relation with a light fury, but with what? Is it a hybrid? I never seen a fury like that before, have I?
The stranger is to be asked about; his hair white as snow, same could be said about his skin, a staff with a hook for an end, piercing icy eyes.. Was he a shepherd of sorts?
Crazy thought, would the Guardians ever feel like Jack looks so familiar? Like âyou remind me of someoneâ type of vibe for the movie?
Ik itâs confusing and they never talk about Nightlight in the move, but what if they had that vibe from Jack? A familiar face but a different person if that makes sense
Itâs weird for the movie, very different from the books from what I heard, but wouldnât the Guardians from the movie might know who Nightlight was before? Especially MiM
