The Inner Circle
Some character cards I did for @illumicrate back in May for the Starfall box!
If you hate Aelin Galathynius for being a sarcastic “bitch” who uses her sharp tongue and wit to hide her endless inner turmoil and pain but love characters like Jace Herondale, Will Herondale, Aaron Warner, Ronan Lynch and basically any other Tortured But Sarcastic Bad Boy™ then I am sorry to tell you but your hypocrisy and internalized misogyny are showing.
The Dark Artifices?
More like let’s see what we can do to make Julian Blackthorn’s life even more miserable
“What if I tell you what the rock and darkness and sea beyond whispered to me, Lord of Bloodshed? How they shuddered in fear, on that island across the sea. How they trembled when she emerged. She took something — something precious. She ripped it out with her teeth.
What did you wake that day in Hybern, Prince of Bastards?“
Lowkey super happy with how I’ve improved as an artist and after rereading the acotar series for like the 5th time, I decided to draw my favorite Illyrian! Hope you guys like it too! :)
Love Female Authors
Ok, a lot of female authors are receiving a lot of hate, and that’s awful, and I’m glad that my awesome friend Becca ( @thepurplewarlock ) started this whole idea. All this hate is reaching unacceptable levels, so I’m here to love some of those women who changed my life and made the person who I am. Shall we start?
Well, the first book that I read because I wanted to was an unknown one for many tumblr users, mostly because I was ten and these books were tendy in Argentina (please if someone read them too, say so, because I loved them so much and they are precious to my nostalgic heart). They were Caídos del Mapa (Fallen from the map) by María Inés Falconi. I don’t know much of this woman, but I read 11 of that series and I bought four of them, and these books were my introduction to many more series and books. María Inés basically made me love reading and I will forever be grateful for that.
Let’s go back to christmas of 2011, I was 12 and 1 month old and wanted the 11th book of Caídos del Mapa and my mom saw City of Bones and thought it was interesting and asked me if I wanted to buy it too. I said yes and we bought those two books. It took me a month to read the full book since it was my first long book ever. To have an idea, Caídos del Mapa has around 250 pages per book with a big ass font and it is mostly dialogue, while CoB has 505 pages and a normal size font for these books. That december, my long term obsession started, and with it lots of changes.
Cassie’s books introduced me to lgbt people, they helped me be brave, taught me to be strong and stand for myself and my beliefs. They made me laugh, cry and love. I made awesome friends thanks to these series and also gave me my newest love, fairies and folktales. Whenever I was bullied or had a very hurtful comment threw my way, I would think What would Will do? How Tessa would react? What would be Jem’s answer? all the time. Those characters taught me how to be kind, strong and brave when I needed it the most.
Cassandra Clare’s books are the fundation of my person today. Without her characters I would have even lesser self esteem and self love that I already have.
Plus, I’m totally a Christopher Lightwood. I’m absent minded, I love to do weird experiments that could possible explode (I don’t do them though, I don’t have the material), I adore science, and I also love Marie Curie. Like, I never found someone like that in YA books.
Charlotte is my fictional role model. She was a strong woman with an important position in a world ruled by men, which is my future. I want to study physics, and it will be an absolutely hard time with all the machismo in our society. She, and all the females in those areas, are the example that it is possible to be successful in a man’s world.
The people who hates her should be more respectful towards her. Not only for the effect that she has on people like me, but because she is a person with feelings too. She is not perfect, none of us are, but she shouldn’t be harassed for that.
And now, I want to talk about an author who is not so famous and doesn’t have much hate (I haven’t seen it), but her book changed me. I’m talking about Mackenzi Lee and her book The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. This books came to me when I was questioning my sexuality last year, and see the bisexual mess that Monty is and how he learns to love himself changed me. I saw acceptance in my sexuality, I saw how it was ok,and how people who couldn’t understand could be accept it nontheless. I also saw how past mistakes don’t define you (which I also saw in Cassie’s books), that all of us deserve love, and that we can always be better.
That book was such a ride in many ways, and I get emotional whenever I think about all the things that I learned through Monty, Percy and Felicity, now I’m tearing up while I write this.
My point with this post is that those three female authors changed my life in different ways, and that I wouldn’t be same person than I am without them. I will forever be grateful for all of this and they inspire me everyday as a young woman. I’m glad that we are appreciating these ladies on this fine day, because they deserve the love, and not irrational hate.
I also want to mention some other authors who I love:
Raiza Revelles (she is a mexican booktuber, and has one published book with someone else)
Claudia Ramírez Lomelí (she is a mexican booktuber too, and is going to publish her first book soon!)
Leigh Bardugo
Rainbow Rowell
Maggie Stiefvater
Marissa Meyer
My literature teacher who is not a writer but I love her and is so full of energy and passion. Also she is pretty funny and a good teacher.
Both booktubers speaks only in spanish, sorry, but Clau has a goodreads account where she posts mostly in english.
PD: I just found out that Caídos del Mapa has 12 books and I just read 11. My life is incomplete.
This is so powerful!
Raiza y Clau merecen mucho reconocimiento
Happy female author appreciation day!!
---------julian’s prayer (5/7)----------
{Mark : the changeling} M end his heart, ‘twixt two worlds torn; A lways searching, confused, forlorn, R emind him how to forgive wrongs – K eep him where his soul belongs.
