There was a lot Yasu didn’t know about the world or the society out of their little commune. But they were getting used to exploring the city on their own, they always managed to get home on time and could always find their way back to the train station. Except for today. Today they must have taken a wrong turn somewhere. They weren’t anywhere near the train station now and found themselves in a completely different place they didn’t recognize. They were trying not to panic when they heard someone speak to them.

“Yes ma’am.” They spoke after turning to see who was talking to them. The person didn’t look terribly scary or seem very threatening. At least not as scary as the other people they’d seen around. “At home. I was supposed to meet mother there but I think I’m lost. Do you know where I am?”

“In a place that children shouldn’t be,” the lady replied, twirling her umbrella before offering the child a kind smile. “Don’t feel the need to call me ma’am. It makes me feel old.” Kiku took a moment to make sure that the skirt of her dress wouldn’t touch the ground before she knelt down, her high heels keeping her above the dirty pavement. Icy blue eyes scanned the child, taking note of their clothing with a soft sigh. 

“Could you tell me your name, little dove? You don’t have to if you don’t want to. I am a stranger after all.” Her presence was warm; open and almost inviting without a hint of falseness or malicious intent. She was worried for their safety above anything. 

“Here. I’ll tell you my name. I’m Kiku,” she offered her first name, hoping to make the child feel at ease.

The red light district was no place for a child; above everyone else, Kiku was the first to know that as someone who was included in operations when she was barely a third year in previous years. Perhaps that was why the woman took the time out of her day to tell her lackeys to leave her alone for but five minutes, and she marched down the alleyway. Her umbrella, decorated with lace and embroidered raindrops, cast a shadow over the child as Kiku stopped a short distance in front of them.

“Are you lost, little dove?” Her fluffy curls hung down in a curtain of white, framing her pale complexion as she spoke in her most soothing tone - a feat not hard due to her monotone voice. “Where are your parents?”
