i feel a pretty profound sadness at seeing just how many people i recognize from over the years resonate with my last post.

fr feels pretty empty these days, as the boards have slowed to a crawl. there's a lack of engagement, even by the devs. no more fun deity posts. no more words on the wind. we get a cozy stream that isn't even onsite.

and outside of breeding once a month- do you want to play the fairgrounds for 20 minutes every day like you have for the last decade? or grind the coliseum for negligible rewards? gather for 15 turns to have a 700 dragon lair return with 1 branch? fun.

player count has dipped drastically. there are currently 1143 users and 7878 guests/bots. this is the day after a new breed was announced.

the people who are still here just want to engage with the site like they used to. they want to buy and gene and breed dragons, and the lair space cap is hurting those who've been there for the last dozen years (and it's not an exaggeration! my blog turned 13 years old last month).

i want QOL updates that allow me to play the game again; to get excited about all these new breeds that i dont have space for. i want to spend time on fr without it hurting my wrists because the only site activities are to grind. i want to feel more than a "ha ha cool ig" when something new is released. i want updates that let me play dragons rather than watch through a window.

no, i dont think the site is going to die anytime soon, but i wish that this heavy feeling that blankets players would be addressed sooner than later.

i think ultimately they've cornered themselves in to a sort of shoe shop event horizon problem with ancients. ancients are the only economically viable type of update to make anymore because everything else they could do has significantly higher development costs for a small fraction of the profit, but the more they do it the less people want it and the less return they get from it, the less money they have, the more they desperately start throwing in more and more of and locking down exclusively more and more on producing the one thing they can do that's economically viable in short term and the more people get tired of it and interest-profits- fall even further so they zero in even more entirely on producing The One Thing That Makes Lots Of Money For Comparatively Little Effort and neglecting everything else because they find themselves in need of lots of money fast because player numbers and purchases are dropping and so on and so forth ect. this is a feedback loop that does not ever end well.
