Not one for many supplies, Rhiannon had been thrilled to find the trader’s house. She was a middle aged woman with stress-related alopecia, who wore a red scarf over her thinning, short hair ( Rhiannon had seen it once, the soft black tufts reminding her ofkitten fur ). Whatever the reason, Laiwa had taken pity on Rhiannon and often let her help out with categorizing her wares and apprising the usefulness of nonfood items.
“Knock, knock!” Rhiannon chimed, almost a skip in her step as she pulled the bag tighter over her shoulder. “Laiw–” The final syllable trailed off as she laid her eyes on the state of disarray the room had been left in. No supplies. No Laiwa. Nothing. It looked like a struggle had occurred, but there was no sign of a body ( reanimated, living, or dead ).
“Laiwa!” Rhiannon called out, scoping the rooms of the old craftsman. At the sound of someone in the kitchen, she couldn’t help but feel an ELECTRIC relief as she rushed to look for her friend in the doorway, only to find a stranger in the woman’s house. Bright eyes grew wary, expression solemn. “Um, hey–” Tentative words held the place while her mind searched for the ones she needed to ask. “What’re you–What are you doing here?”

Anthonio by Annie // through the masquerade you led me by the hand whispered the words, "this is forever" said from the a silver tongue that's where it started from.
Make Me a Bird by Elektrik People // we got to talking, and she began to compliment me. said that she likes the way I sing, and perhaps she could help me, but I was caught up, in the pain behind her eyes. she said, make me a bird, I'll fly away beyond the confines of the sick, sick game.
Night Call by Kavinsky // I'm giving you a night call to tell you how I feel. I want to drive you through the night, down the hills. I'm gonna tell you something you don't want to hear. I'm gonna show you where it's dark, but have no fear.
Digital Versicolor by Glass Candy // this is the brilliance of white light ( white light ) it shines on roses and gardenias ( white light ).
Cherry by Chromatics // cherry tells me some things I don't want to know and I can't see a light at the end for us anymore, but I can't keep crying all of the time. no, I can't keep crying all of the time.

ALL SMOKE AND MIRRORS, Vasiliy didn’t always remember how he got to places. Often it felt like he just appeared, sprung out of the ground like a plant with no roots. He woke up in different house or building, either from sleep or blacking out—due to drinking or otherwise, or just ARRIVED somewhere else without taking any of notice his journey there. That’s how he felt in life, really, he was just a cold, cold breeze that drifted in and out of LIFE and consciousness. Standing now in the street, he couldn’t remember if he had been there for awhile or just stopped as he saw the brunette walking this way, waiting for her to ARRIVE at his feet. It used to be frightening when he was a child, to lose time and parts of his days, but he had long grown accustomed to them, these blackouts, to the point he might have felt unease to remember every single thing he had done in a 24 hour period.
He did remember HER, though, and she had remembered him–of course she did. Lips curling lightly at the corners, much like the dreaded cat that got the CANARY, Vasiliy nodded, attempting to show amusement but only felt satisfaction that she kept them. Good, that was very good. ❝ Hello Ahna. ❞ Vasiliy greeted, head titling towards the right as his eyes dripped down her body without the protection of sunglasses to mask it. ❝ You have kept them. ❞
For the better part of the twentieth century, Berkeley had been seen as the exemplar of counter culture. That same FREE SPIRIT invoked by students and professors long before Rhiannon’s birth, lived on within her. A wild dark-haired girl named for Alice Cooper and Stevie Nicks, she had learned about city low-income medical marijuana, council seats, food collectives, and the importance of her own privilege and positionality at the dinner table before she’d seen it plastered on patronizing apple commercials. It was difficult, then, to allow herself to be stifled by classrooms and deadlines–a philosophy which her parents supported despite the fact that it instilled in their daughter legs made of WANDERLUST and a heart that was not built to bolster a career.
Still, a wanderer’s heart found it difficult to make a home within itself–something outside San Francisco had to fill the void. She’d tried boys, pot, girls, spirituality, and art. Until Antarctica, everything fell short … and after she LEFT ? No amount of wandering had filled the placed it had left behind. The frigid waters of the south pole had weathered away, freezing in the vessels and expanding. Now the void was BIGGER and harder to fill–no amount of aimless scavenging around Cheyenne had come close with small exception: Vasiliy Burlakov a man as cold and unreadable as the frozen south that had captivated her fickle heart. “Vasiliy!” The syllables resonated with nostalgia for snow and the anticipation of making a brief acquaintance into something more. “You said they looked better on me, right?” A genuine smile tugged at her lips and she slipped the glasses over her hair, forehead already beading from the summer heat. “And where have YOU been keeping yourself? Did you hear that horrible siren go off? I thought my eyes were going to melt out my ears.” Stupid, stupid Rhiannon’s brows drew together uneasily, feeling the sting of a stupid remark. She recovered quickly and flashed him a falsely confident smile, brows raised politely anticipating his response.

Doubling back for another glance, Delilah began to realize just who she had dragged down with her. Should she feel gulity or safe? The last thing she wanted to do was get a girl she had newly been calling her friend into any kind of trouble. Not to mention that the sort they might be dealing with could very well be the kind that was hard to come back from. Dark eyes went back to remaining trained on the unruly male just ahead of them; feeling like her heart was bouncing in her throat. “I’ve seen him before. Something doesn’t feel right,” She couldn’t help but get the sense that the man was waiting for something, or someone. Simply thinking this much had the girl feeling uneasy; usually she was one for running until all danger was behind her. “I think he’s waitin’ for someone. We might be best keepin’ quiet until we know what’s up.”
Rhiannon’s clammy hand felt for the handle of her gun--the desert eagle was too large and felt awkward in her grip no matter how often she carried it. Despite the desire for someone who could PROTECT them, she actually felt comforted being in the presence of a friend whose fear beat in her chest with the same frantic wings. Did rabbits find themselves relieved in their burrows, ears pressed flat against their own backs, faces lost amongst the fur and the fury of their kin’s rapid heartbeats? “You’ve seen him before?” Rhiannon whispered. “Like he’s okay? Or like he was killing somebody?” Fear crept from the pit in her stomach, her throat almost burning in anticipation. She nodded along with Delilah’s decision, wiping her sweaty palm on her jeans before placing it back onto the gun. “What kind of person is a guy like this waiting on?” She wasn’t sure she TRULY wanted the answer.

One thing he seemed to be good at was survival. When he was a teenager going through a rebellious stage and he wouldn’t speak to his parents, he’d become rather good at getting himself places and making food. When he was 26 he got shot while in pursuit of a perp. A few inches to the right and he would have been dead, and he woke up with nightmares for weeks with that knowledge. He spent three years on the run, moving from state to state, crossing to Mexico as well while looking for his family. So, running, hiding, doing whatever it took to keep going? It wasn’t hard for him. So when she yelled, and pushed, he responded immediately and turned.. “Shit, okay.” He’d just come from the way she was coming and the hiding places he’d seen really hadn’t been that great, but one of them would have to do if they had no choice. “There was a place I saw a block or so from here with a roof, if we can get up there then we should be safe.” He yells to her over the pounding alarm as he ran along side of her. For about the billionth time since it had started, Carter really hated this reality they lived in. The one where walkers, the undead, zombies, whatever you wanted to call them, walked freely and spread their disease throughout the planet that once held so much beauty. He couldn’t stand it. “I”m Carter, by the way. We’re almost there.”
If it was a mistake to trust blindly, Cheyenne was the right place to make it. Inside the city people more or less seemed to be looking out for one another and for that she was grateful. While she prided herself on not being entirely hopeless in judging character, Rhiannon could not imagine having to worry about the threat of every person she met, while trying to survive all by herself. It was a palpable fear that followed her all the way from the southern snow. Still, even on top of that, this man didn’t particularly look like a murderer ( although hadn’t her mom told her that even Ted Bundy had looked 'pretty harmless’? ). "Great. I--” She didn’t want to mention that she was alone in Cheyenne, but she didn’t want to lie either in case that made matters worse. “I can’t get to my camp right now.” It was nonspecific enough. “How do you know it’s safe there?” She wondered, anxious to see ahead to the roof he’d mentioned. “Rhiannon.” She whispered harshly. “My name's Rhiannon.” She nodded absently, eyes flickering from the man as she kept pace with him to the streets at their sides. “I don’t have anything.” She added, the nagging concern that the stranger might try and rob her of her supplies. “To say thank you with, I mean. I don’t have anything.”
