I guess there are lots of ways to interpret the “I love you,” “I know.” Like, my mom just laughed and said that is such a typical smug and badass thing for Han to say to Leia’s declaration of love. To me, I always read it as a bit of regret: Han thinks he is possibly going to die and that this could be the end of things, Leia has been working the courage throughout the entire movie to admit it, and she finally says it before he’s lowered in whereas his feelings were always obvious. Sad and sweet.
