AstharTale Lore Notes — Part 1: The Constellations
• The Constellations
In AstharTale, the *Constellations* are guardian entities that protect the AstharTale universe from outside threats. They watch over the universe from a hidden palace behind the moon known as the *Constellation Thronehall*.
The Thronehall can also be reached through a hidden door in Waterfall, opened using the power of a Constellation Core combined with the souls of seven humans.
Just as humans have souls, each Constellation possesses a *Constellation Core* — the source of their life force.
• Forms of the Constellations
Constellations generally take on demi-human forms. For example:
- *Aries* takes the form of a Half-Ram.
- *Virgo* (Astraea) takes the form of an Elf.
*Libra* is the exception. Rather than a demi-human form, Libra takes the shape of a *Scale*, which gathers the universe's positive and negative energy into power stored within it.
• Astran
Within the Scale resides Libra's consciousness — whose true name is *Astran*. Astran is especially close to Astraea (Virgo), as she is the only one able to communicate directly with Libra's consciousness.
• The War and the Unraveling
A war breaks out, caused by conflict between humans and monsters. As a result, Libra's Scale begins to fill with negative energy, and its power grows unstable.
• The Separation
Alarmed by this instability, the Constellations make the decision to separate Libra's body from its consciousness, splitting Libra into two distinct entities:
- The *Scale* (the body) retains the *Libra Core* that holds positive energy.
- *Astran* (the consciousness) is drawn out of the Scale and fused with the Libra Core that holds negative energy — giving rise to an entirely new body formed of darkness.
• Astran's Imprisonment
Astran is imprisoned in the Underground alongside the Monster race, where he continues to absorb negative energy from the universe above.
*Additional note:* Before being imprisoned, Astraea secretly gives Astran half of her own Virgo Core — unsurprising, given that she was the Constellation most opposed to separating Libra's body from its consciousness in the first place.
• The Possession of Gaster
While in the Underground, Astran makes his way into the Royal Guard's lab and possesses the body of W.D. Gaster, at the time just an ordinary scientist.
Astran fully takes over Gaster's body and identity, and begins calling himself "Gaster – The Incarnation" (referred to for short as *Asthar!Gaster*).
• The Creation of Sans
Using half of his own Core — the Virgo Core given to him by Astraea — combined with a Monster soul, Asthar!Gaster creates *Sans*.
*Composition:* 25% Monster soul, 25% Libra Core, 50% Virgo Core.
The result is Sans, born with a *Soul of Purity*.
• Astran's Motive
Asthar!Gaster (Astran) creates Sans because he cannot bring himself to take revenge on his former friends directly. Sans is also created with a deeper purpose: to eventually collect every Constellation Core, so that no one else would ever suffer the same fate Astran did.
With all the Cores in hand, *Asthar!Sans* intends to rewrite the very system of his own universe.
