Undertale: The Lone Human
Hello! We in the Undertale:TLH fangame project are excited to announce that we're opening up spots for new members to our team! This fanmade prequel follows the journey of a human traveling deeper into the underground as opposed to attempting to reach the surface, searching for solitude and seclusion from human society. It is being developed using our own engine (demo of the engine available here and engine dev videos here), which is fully equipped with essentially all features seen in the original Undertale game.
We're currently a team of 8 people working on the project but now that it has taken off for real we're planning to expand our numbers. The only way for this fangame to reach the potential it deserves is through your help. At the moment we're opening up two slots for artists and two slots for musicians, though if we get exceptional submissions we are willing to take on more so do not be afraid to submit! PM me here on tumblr using the form below and I'll get back to you as soon as possible!
Artists & Animators As should be obvious, the game can’t be without visuals. We are mainly looking for artists proficient in pixel art but if you feel like you can contribute in another way then go ahead and send in an application. Please include a link to your previous work in the PM.
Sound Designers & Musicians We're well aware of the importance of sound and music in video games and Undertale had such a good soundtrack to prove this. What better way to set a sad mood than with a somber song? Please include a link to your previous work in the PM.

Let’s make this the fangame that the Undertale fandom won’t forget!
When you release your engine, it will only be the basic code to create fan-games or will be an easier editor to use? The engine will be FULLY Customable or not? Sorry if the questions are too silly.(And sorry if my english is bad, I'm learning).
Don't worry about your questions. :)The engine will be released as code, as in you will need basic Game Maker Studio knowledge to be able to make anything with it. It will be very customizeable though so you shouldn't have to code any new things, unless you intend to do something that a core Undertale mechanic, and a goal is to have clear documentation on how to do work the engine. Hope that answered your questions!
Undertale: The Lone Human Application Post
Hello Tumblr! I know the Undertale community loves fan content, so I want to present this project I've been working on for a while:
This fanmade prequel follows the journey of one human traveling deeper into the underground, searching for solitude and seclusion from human society. It is being developed using my own TobDog engine (demo of the engine available here), which is fully equipped with essentially all features seen in the original Undertale game.
With that obstacle out of the way, let me get to the point: I might be able to program an engine but creating a whole fangame solo would be an incredibly difficult task. Neither do I want to do a half-ass job when it comes to areas I'm less prolific in. The only way for this fangame to reach the potential it deserves is through your help. If you feel that you fit what I am looking for below or you think that you can contribute to the process in some other way, email me at [email protected]!

Artists & Animators
As should be obvious, the game can't be without visuals. If you feel you can contribute with pixel art, battle sprites or concept art that would be awesome, though it is no requirement. Please include a link to your previous work in the email.
Sound Designers & Musicians

Writer
While I care deeply for the writing process myself I know that having just one person oversee all dialogue can end up making it stale and nonsensical at times. If you feel like you have a decent background writing and a creative, open mind, send in an email with a link to your previous work!
Other
Impress me! I want this game to have a certain standard so please, if you play around in FLStudio with basic snare beats or your previous drawings are half-baked scribbles, take a step back and think if this is the project for you. I don't want to sound harsh but there is no guarantee I will accept an application if the work is not up to par.
Programmers are still welcome, though I will warn you; the documentation of the engine is shoddy and I don't know how friendly it is to new users. It is highly customizable though so creating things should not be a problem, project-wise.
Let's make this the fangame that the Undertale fandom won't forget!
Here’s an update on the Undertale fan engine I’m making! There’s a bunch of new stuff like shops and saving, so progress has sure been made! After a few more features it’ll be ready for actual game making.
A special shoutout to the Beforus album as great background music while coding (whom an acquaintance of mine made art for, so I’m not biased at all).
do you think you could upload your current project ? i'm not planning on doing anything with it; it'd just wanna see how your code works
Sorry, I can't do that! I might just be paranoid, but I know there are enough nasty people on the internet that could steal and use the code for their own game without crediting me, and frankly I have no resources to be able to check that. The code /will/ be out eventually when the project goes open source but right now it is still in development.I'm still working on it though! (Let me tell you; always make a good foundation when coding because it saves you soooo much time later)
Hello! Just wondering, will you be releasing any of the code for your undertale fangame engine? I'm making a little project myself, and you've already made phenominal progress from what i've seen, and could definitely learn a lot looking over (and totally not stealing) some of what you've got done!
The code will hopefully be released after the whole engine is completed, like some kind of open source project. Mind you I didn’t say “once”, but “after, since I will use the engine to create my own fan game and in doing so will probably find a lot of bugs and things I’ve forgot to implement. Development has been slow due to graduation, but I’m working on it!

Cool, I can't wait for the engine! I currently use Unitale for my battles, it's pretty cool, although Gamemaker is a lot better, oh, where did you learn GameMaker btw? If your engine isn't released I want to atleast make my own
I didn’t learn GameMaker from anywhere, I guess. I used to play with it for a few years back when I was like 12 and made some mediocre three level platformer using the drag & drop commands. Revisited it like once or twice, never completed anything, and then decided that what the heck I might as well try making an Undertale engine, after not having used it for a year.
Most of it was brought from simply playing with D&D and reading a lot of the documentation. This and the project I had before that were entirely in code however, because I liked the challenge. :)
Right now my development is heavily delayed because of being extremely busy irl, graduating and all that jazz. Hopefully I’ll get time to sit down and continue coding soon, but if not and I lose interest in the project (might happen, I am fickle like that) I will simply release the unfinished engine as open source so others can use and complete it if they want to.
Let’s hope I get to finish it myself instead!
“that comedian...”
(undertale spoilers)
the infamous red text that appears in the genocide route. people have debated who “that comedian” actually refers to – is it snowdrake or sans? after a lot of info from @maskirovka and a little effort, i have a completely solid answer.
THE SECOND ROUTE
the second time i did the genocide route, i decided to grind glyde. i killed a snowdrake before running from everything to where glyde hangs out. when i had one left after checking the save point near by, i killed the greater dog because i wasn’t sure if it counted as the last kill or not (it didn’t). when i backtracked to the save point, the text had changed to “that comedian…”
after one more kill, the save point changed to “determination” as usual.
THE THIRD ROUTE
the third time, i decided to refrain from killing any snowdrakes. i ran from each one i encountered. i killed everything else.
eventually, i only had one left. again, i killed greater dog and backtracked to the save point like before. unlike last time, the save point still said “1 left”.
i killed the last thing. i went back to the save point, getting “but nobody came” encounters along the way. but it didn’t say “determination”. instead, it changed to “the comedian got away. failure.”
curiously, i went into snowdin. the save point there said it too. npcs were still there even though the “but nobody came” music was playing.
afterwards, papyrus didn’t say his genocide dialogue. even after killing him, people were still around in snowdin and waterfall. the genocide route really had failed! in waterfall, the save point had changed to the usual neutral/pacifist message about rushing water. backtracking to the snowdin save point still produced the comedian message, though.
tl;dr
killing snowdrake in genocide route will produce the “that comedian…” message at save points if you haven’t killed everything in snowdin forest yet
killing all the monsters in snowdin forest in the genocide route but WITHOUT killing snowdrake once will result in a “the comedian got away. failure.” message at save points and the genocide route will become a neutral route
so! this is confirmation that the “comedian” really is snowdrake and if you refuse to kill him then your genocide route will be interrupted.
it makes me wonder why. i first thought it could be because snowdrake has an overworld sprite, but so does gyftrot and i didn’t kill that either.
Will your engine be open source/moddable when finished (like Unitale) or closed source?
Probably open source, if I am to finish it and release it as a sole engine. A game would be closed source, but what’s the point in releasing an engine if people can’t use it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
