An ask blog for assorted slashers and survivors, jointly run by Jess & Vana, two ladies DEFINITELY NOT being held against their will. Asks Are: Closed for backlog!
Above is a link to our full attendee roster. Our party is a lovely gathering of slashers and survivors, all of which are open for asks!
(note: for mobile users, please tap the "assorted slashers and survivors" hyperlink in the page description for access)
Thank you for accepting your invitation!
We hope you have fun! Our guests are excited to recieve your questions and your love. It’s our hope that they’re able to find new friends in each other, and in all of you!
J: Have you ever wanted a place to chat with a whole handful of slashers and final girls that we’ve forced to live together like a sadistic game of The Sims?
V: Then by God, you’ve found the right people. Conducting a circus of freaks and their respective partners, we stand before you as humble fans… just as you are. Though wrangling monsters is quite a feat, you can rest assured you’re safe. ...for now.
J: But since we have them all here, we ought to let them do the second thing they love most: talk about themselves! By painstakingly digging through canon material, we’ve developed characters with answers to important questions that have no official responses, based in fact, and we’re excited to share.
V: Feel free to pull forth any guest - though some may mind more than others. Nevertheless, they’re all available, waiting and watching. Just make sure one doesn’t follow you home. ♥️
J: I don’t think some of these anons would mind that, though, haha~ As for us, hi! I’m Jessica; call me Jess, not to be confused with Bradford. And this is my lovely girlfriend, Vana:
V: Hi~ I go by a number of names, but Vana is the main one. (If you call me Willow, I’ll still respond--) Pleasure to meet everyone~
J: We’ll have the guests answer as fast as possible, but depending on your question we may need time to do research and deliberate. We may also revisit old asks with comics/art! So please help us get started by flooding that box. Anything goes! And keep an eye out for random slasher content as well.
V: Not to mention we’ll be doing Guest Spotlights - highlighting movies and talking about them for the guests we already have, and for the newcomers! Thanks again for comin’! We look forward to seeing what you all have brewing~! ♥️
V: Come one, come all! This is a role call - a reawakening! This is a stab to the neck full of reagent for our obsession-based ask account!
Hello, everyone! It's me, Mod Vana!
It sure has been a while, hasn't it? Gosh, with all the life that's been happening, I feel like I haven't had a chance to play around! Party time is weeeell overdue, don't you think?~
I just wanted to make a post and see just how many of us are still alive out there! Did the guests get any of you? I sure hope not! They've been JUST as antsy to get back to their festivities...
But I'm raring to go! I'm ready to get wet (with blood) - and get back into the groove!~
Hey Leslie! I'm pretty obsessed with you and Tay and I just wanted to know if you're still watching out for your Survivor Girl? Was hoping for something like Eugene and Kelly, maybe?
“Eugene and Kelly? Do you mean his wife, Jamie? Kelly was my... y’know,” Leslie clarifies, tilting his head. He smiles, however, at the mention of your interest in him - and the mention of Taylor.
“Well, Tay and I are a little on the bumpy side right now, but I still keep tabs on her. Heh- if I wasn’t, hah, doin’ that, I’d all too easily lose her to a, a bus or something, ha!” The man crosses his arms loosely, relaxed. “But I, I do look out for her a lot still. I hope someday her and I can reach what Eugene and Jamie have…”
It’s then that Leslie’s face settles, turning less cheery and more into a look of longing. He glances aside, “...it’s really special, you know. The relationship between a Survivor Girl and her Slasher. Someday… I, hope Taylor sees that too.”
Hey Les! How does it feel to be hanging out with some of the most notorious slashers in history?
The man beams, looking around almost innocently. “We-hell, heh, I am pre-tty lucky to have a position as unique as mine. These guys respect me. Hell - most of these guys see me as like an impressionable youth! It boils down to a few of them ‘trying to set good examples’, heheh!~”
He beams at you now, leaning in and lowering his voice, “Can I be honest? It’s the coolest thing ever! Not to sound like some kind of ah, crazy rabid fan but I live for this. To be invited to a party with the big guys!? Not to be treated like some- some wannabe by the men I’ve idolized since I was young?” He grabs your hands excitedly, bouncing them in front of you. You can practically see the stars in his eyes. “It! Is! A DREAM come TRUE! I’m wigging OUT over here!”
“Hello? Excuse me,” A soft-spoken woman in yellow comes up beside Leslie, briefly touching his arm to get his attention. “Pardon me.”
She presses her palms together, giving you a respectful nod and weaving her fingers as she speaks.
“I’ve noticed you’ve just arrived here, and I can’t help feeling you look terribly familiar. Have we met?”
"Huh?" He turns from you and looks her over. He plays with the mask in his hand. "...now that you mention it, you're giving me some serious nostalgia. Who are you?"
“Oh, my manners. Jessica Bradford,” She answers with a friendly smile, offering her hand. “I wasn’t certain I should introduce myself. After all, my…” Jess glances briefly over her shoulder, “... colleague, and I, are certain we both know you already, which would put you in a very small category. We don’t have many overlapping acquaintances.”
"We-hell, I definitely know OF you, that's for sure!" He shakes her hand firmly in two of his. "Miss Bradford, the sole survivor of 1974's infamous "Black Christmas" murders, just months after Texas's own tragedy in the same year!" His eyes again sparkle. "Gosh, if I forgot that I knew you and Mr. Lenz, then I must've hit my head on something hard! Oh- you know, maybe my mentor introduced me to you at some point! Do you know any Eugenes, or, or Jamies?"
“Goodness, erm… no, not that I can think of,” Jess gives a nervous laugh at Leslie’s enthusiasm, turning and waving her shier counterpart over with her free hand, “Billy, do you know anyone named…?” She glances back at the newcomer to finish her sentence, but changes her mind. “Actually, I ought to ask for your name first, shouldn’t I?”
“Oh, ha, gosh - how rude of me.” He turns up the charm and dials back the excitement, “Leslie Vernon. Harvest Murders of 2006 - they call me “The Boy” sometimes?”
(Sorry for the silence, guys! Online school started for Mod J, and work’s been nuts for me - we’re a lil behind on asks, but we’re gonna do what we can in these coming times! <3)
Leslie Vernon’s Secret 2021 Short Film: Wait For It
J: Calling all Leslie Vernonites! This info is MUST KNOW for all fans of the Glen Echo slasher! So even if you already know about this project, please consider reading & sharing so more fans can get excited about this!
(This is a post I’ve been REALLY excited to make for a while, so I really hope you enjoy and spread the news!)
Lace your boots up, kiddies; this is gonna be a looong post. I’m putting every step of my discovery path in here. That way you have access to all my sources:
We begin our journey on YouTube back in July.
I was fooling around, watching some Leslie content, and was recommended Joebizz34's 1/6 Behind The Mask Leslie Vernon custom figure video (tip: bold words from this point forward are most likely links). I thought it was super cool! And it had about 1k views. A small plug!
But I scrolled down into the comments... and spotted a familiar face.
‘Nathan?!’ I thought to myself. Was this his actual YouTube account?
That singular like is my own, by the way. So odds are, Joebizz34 himself hasn’t even seen this comment (or doesn’t realize who this is).
Step One: Investigating Nathan’s Channel
A natural skeptic, I assumed this was a fan account and set out to prove myself wrong. (Here’s the link: Nathan Baesel) At the beginning of all of this, this was the main task I was attempting to accomplish.
Pulling up his page, there isn’t much to look at. Just a clip from an old movie and a short video of someone who clearly isn’t Nathan Baesel. He also only has a handful of followers, but that didn’t deter me and I decided to look deeper.
Popping over to his own subscriptions, another familiar face jumped out at me:
Ben Pace! Who you might recognize as the man who played Doug in Behind the Mask!
Double-checking this page as well, this is definitely his channel.
And Leslie/Nathan fangirls will find a particular little treat in this pinned video of his, Hello Jogger:
Absolutely fantastic, the both of them.
So this is a good sign, but Ben doesn’t follow him back, and I couldn’t find any interaction between them with this account. So this isn’t definitive proof.
Step Two: the 197 MPH Promo
Going back to his channel, I checked out the first video he had up... with only 15 views on it.
Now, this guy I didn’t recognize. So I jumped in to see if I could figure out who it was, and low-and-behold, you’re looking at David J. Stieve, the writer of Behind the Mask. And that man in the back? In the stripes?
Well, check out the video yourself and you’ll see:
Now, there’s a lot to unpack here. Keep in mind - I was just trying to figure out whether or not this was Nathan’s actual YouTube channel for fun. Now I’m going nuts cause there’s apparently some short-film set in the Behind the Mask universe that I haven’t heard about?!
At this point, I can’t say for sure this is Nathan’s actual YouTube account, but I can definitely confirm that that is Nathan in the video, and this main guy is David Stieve, the writer of Behind the Mask. (Also, can I just say, I live for Nathan’s sass? He’s just the best, guys.)
But my goal had changed. Now I needed to find out what this Wait for It project was all about.
Step Three: Discovering Wait for It
I jumped on over to IMDB and there it is: Wait for It (2021)
Check out that unnamed boy.
That’s right, folks.
You’re looking at a secret Behind the Mask project.
(That little bit of trivia that says they’re linked was actually added by me. Sorry for the bad wording - I tried to fix it but IMDB wouldn’t let me, so, what can I do.)
Now, talk about being hard to find! Without my addition, there’s nothing that points to this having anything to do with Leslie. Even with Nathan & David’s involvement.
I checked Twitter today, and there are only a few tweets (with the #WaitForIt tag) that refer to this project and not Hamilton. David hasn’t said anything about it, Nathan hasn’t said anything about it. That I saw. I did an advanced search but if I accidentally misspelled something and they have mentioned it, please let me know.
From this tweet:
I was able to find the IndieGogo for the project:
Which was closed a long time ago, with only 36 backers, where B4TM got roughly 300. One can only assume it was an exposure issue, but it doesn’t seem like they really advertised it. However, I wasn’t a Vernonite back in 2017, so I can’t really say that for sure.
The last update was from 2018, which stated that things were in motion for the project:
But then again, the last update on the B4TM Indiegogo is outdated, stating issue #6 is in production when I have it sitting on my desk right now. So who knows where this project lies. It could be even further along than the update suggests, and after all, the IMDB does say 2021.
One last update I found poking around the official B4TM Facebook page:
Now, this is a little strange. You have the Behind the Mask crew here, and given the title of the page this is posted on, one would assume this “screening” is for Behind the Mask. But looking at the date, and the now-familiar-to-us posters on the table, that might not be the case.
So, does that mean this short film is finished and unreleased?
Does that mean we see Taylor and crew in the film? Or are they there to support the creators? I’m leaning toward the latter.
A streaming party was also an incentive for backing the Wait for It fundraiser. I’m lead to believe they premiered a rough-cut of the short film, and that’s what we’re looking at in this photo. That may also be where the technical data on IMDB is pulled from, but that rough cut isn’t available to us, and the finished project isn’t either. If it is I can’t find it, otherwise it’d be part of this post.
I also did check the collector’s edition Blu-ray (which I’ve yet to get myself but I do want it for the incentive of extended/deleted scenes, the interviews, and the movie commentary), but Wait for It was not listed as part of the bonus features.
Now, this interview has the most information about the project’s details out of everything out there I’ve seen so far. It’s an audio-only over the phone interview a horror channel did with David Stieve back in 2017.
For details on what Wait for It is about, and how it fits into the Leslie universe, it would be better to listen to this interview than for me to write it all out.
Step Four: What now?
Well, I realized that I might have found something that maybe a lot of people don’t know about, but they should. So, I’m putting this together! While we can’t back the project monetarily anymore, we can support it, the creator, and the Leslie Universe by spreading as much awareness about it as possible.
With that said, this is all the information I’ve found, with the links included. Poke around and see if you turn up anything else! And if this project is available somewhere, even as a rough cut (but so long as it’s posted legally), please do share!
I love Leslie, I love Taylor, and I love what the Behind the Mask universe stands for. I love David Stieve’s mindset, and if I won the lottery tomorrow, I would immediately call him up and tell him any Leslie projects he had planned were now completely funded. I’m really just that passionate about this franchise.
Thank you so much for reading this!
I hope you found out something new, or you at least now have a post with all the information about Wait for It gathered in one place.
Like I mentioned at the beginning, please consider sharing so all the Vernonites know about it! As always, much love to all of you, and the Slasher community!
XOXO, Mod Jess
Behind the Mask: Welcoming Leslie Vernon & Taylor Gentry for Asks!
J: From the beginning of time, mankind has created and shared cautionary tales in every medium: plays, books, campfire stories, tapestries, sculptures, even cave drawings. And when movies were first being made in the late 1800s, they were no exception to this rule. It took less than a decade after the creation of cinema for the first 'scary movie' to come out, and the century that followed brought to life black lagoon creatures, bloodthirsty counts, and abominations of science who redefined humanity's understanding of terror.
In the 1970s, Leatherface first lifted his saw, and the Prowler made his first phone call, kickstarting the slasher genre that we now know and love. It's a simple formula: a misbehaved group of teens, a brave young girl, and a terrible monster. But through this formula, we were given stories that kept us up all night, made us fear the deep end of the pool, and had us thinking twice about staying out too late on Halloween night.
Around the 2000s, the genre began to change, but one man stayed convinced that these slashers had found the key to unlocking the secret of human fear. He took it upon himself to modernize the slasher-movie formula and reawaken the evil that his predecessors embodied, all while keeping their traditions.
(Warning: Spoilers for Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon ahead!)
J: To kick things off, I should be clear: this is one of my favorite movies. Ever. If you love slashers like we do and you haven’t checked this film out, you’ll definitely want to stop reading here and go put it on. Trust me: you do not want this one spoiled! Now, into the review.
V: The mockumentary styling of the majority of the film was a brave new departure from normal Slasher-types, and I honestly adored it. Found-footage movies tend to not be as immersive to me, but this one found its way into my heart very quickly.
J: The cinematography was a huge part of what made this movie so fantastic. You have these abrupt shifts between their documentary footage and reality that were so well executed. You also get cameos from some of the best in the business: Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, and Zelda Rubinstein! I felt extra special recognizing Kane on sight~
V: In the universe this movie takes place in, every slasher’s legacy is real. Every murder, every survivor! It all happened, and was broadcasted for the world to know. How people don’t live in fear already at this point... I will never know. Leslie Vernon, with a giant mass of murderous icons to follow, is a self-proclaimed slasher newbie. Throughout the film, we find out Leslie is planning a very big, very special day: his return from beyond the grave - to haunt Glen Echo as a living legend.
J: And if you’ve made it this far into the review I assume you already know: Leslie hires a film crew to document his rise to infamy, claiming to be stalking a group of teens with a survivor (final) girl among them. In the end, his real target was the woman he had hired to make his documentary: Taylor Gentry. And she is an incredible addition to the survivor hall of fame.
V: She may not have understood everything right from the get-go, but she filled Leslie’s expectations perfectly in the end - he had been watching her for a long time, he claims, and everything he was meant to become relied on her. The two unknowingly worked in tandem until the final curtain, and it was everything the new Slasher could’ve hoped for. Honestly, very romantic???
J: To me, the best thing about this film is the way it comes across as a love-letter to everyone who adores the genre. It’s packed full of references, insider terminology, characters hinted to secretly be slashers we know, and it’s all tied together with the shiny, red, charismatic ribbon that is Leslie. He’s fun, he’s funny, he’s traditional, he’s a genius. His goal was to show the world that mass communication and modern culture had not killed the slasher way of life, and I believe whole-heartedly that he accomplished that goal.
Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great honor that we begin our welcoming ceremony for the Glen Echo slasher himself. The one and only Leslie Vernon!!
“Well, I think the real honor here goes to me,” the man gushes, hand on his chest as he approaches us, his letter held gently in the other, “I’m thankful to be acknowledged and recognized for my work! Heh, this is like receiving some kind of slasher Grammy~” Leslie chuckles. “But I digress. Thank you everyone for your interest in my work - I promise not to disappoint…~”
V: And every dark must come with its fair share of light - he would agree he couldn’t have done any of this without her. So it’s our pleasure as well to be introducing, alongside the Harvest Murderer himself, Miss Taylor Gentry!
Taylor steps up beside Leslie, bundled up in a turtleneck sweater and armed with nothing but a home video camera. She avoids the slasher's eyes, but gives him a silent nod of acknowledgement before thanking the hosts.
“Thank you, for inviting me. I’m, just as interested in these answers as… everyone else,” She shrugs briefly, managing a smile. “I think this footage might start to make up for… what happened with my last attempt at a documentary. I might ask a few questions of my own; if, that’s alright. ehem...”
--
Leslie bites his tongue as she speaks, sort of looking aside, “Hey, I uh,” he speaks up after a moment, rocking side to side with his hands in his jeans pockets, “I’m sorry I… stole your film, the first time. I hope you understand, heh, it… had a lot of info I couldn’t have getting out.” He explains, almost shyly. “...I wanted it to be published- I did! So. I’m sorry. And- for- nearly strangling you to death. Heh...”
She nods, hugging herself but keeping her eyes down. “Job requirement. Right.”
“Yeah- yeah! It’s all just part of what we’re meant to do.” He slings his arm around her and shakes her a little. “No hard feelings. It’s an amazing documentary; I just… gotta do some editing for you, that’s all~”
“For ten years?” Taylor questions pointedly, stiff in his embrace.
“Al-right, so I had to lay low a long while; I’m sorry! Sheesh… they don’t make cards for this, Tay - I’m doing my best here.” Leslie near whines, tilting his head down toward her.
“... Well, I’m sorry, too.” Her shoulders fall. “For… stabbing, and crushing, and... burning you…”
“Hey, it’s all part of the job.” He reassures her lightly, offering a smile. “I’m proud of how well you handled it all. It was flawless - just like I knew it’d be.” The man muses, reminiscing fondly. He turns her to face him, practically gushing. “...You gotta remember how I said EVERYTHING I do relies on ‘her’; the only thing you crushed was my pre-existing expectation of you! You nailed it!”
Taylor tries her best to hide it, but a smile breaks through her tough exterior. Unsure of whether or not it’s a compliment she should thank him for, she opts for a flustered nod instead, involuntarily beaming.
J: Looks like the two of them are gonna get along just fine!
Les & Tay are officially open for asks!
V: We’ve only watched two movies so far, and already Evil Dead is a god damn trip and a half. I love it. When we get back into it, I’m excited to see how “Army of Darkness” plays through if it’s this batshit insane--
J: The absolute truth. We’re in this for you guys, and every ‘heart’ keeps us motivated. Plus, I live for the comments and tags you guys add to the Slasher Party posts!
We’re still new and have yet to get to a point where we’re really conversing freely back-and-forth with our followers, but I’m so excited to get there! The interaction is by far my favorite. And for now, this feedback is what’s shaping our page and bringing us to that point.
So thank you so much for your love, your asks, your follows, and for the repubs that help get our content on the dashes of more people who will really enjoy it! Making you guys smile, laugh, (maybe inspired), or even just feel understood in the fandom is what this is aaaall about.
CHOP oh man my dood it's been a while ha ha anyway dropped in to say you have FULL permission to bash my head in and say hi to your family for me.
“Been’a while?” He squints at you, trying to remember where he knows you from. After a moment, he gives up and offers a smile anyway, “I’ll tell ‘em y’said hi, definitely! L… ‘less y’wanna come fer dinner someday? Or I coul’go git ‘em! Some of em came t’th’party too!”
Suddenly, he skitters off, grabbing the sleeves of his siblings and dragging them back over (though to drag Bubba, he needed a little help-). “C’mon! Somebody wanna say hi to y’all!”
“We ain’t got time f’this; this party ain’gon cater itself,” Drayton mutters to his brothers, but he flashes you a bright smile as if nothing happened, “Hiya there.”
Bubba whines shyly. Still wearing oven mitts, he rubs his hands together, having been pulled from the kitchen. He’s been putting a lot of extra work into making the food perfect. After all, he has a lady to impress!
Now faced with meeting someone new, he’s even MORE nervous, half-hiding behind his older brother.
“It’s awright, just say ‘Hi’ and we can git back t’work,” the older Sawyer grumbles to the man using him as a social shield.
“... mm… Am,” Bubba babbles, giving you a little wave. With a satisfied nod, Drayton looks to Chop Top.
“That all, Bobby?” He asks in a tone laced with irritation. Chop Top nods quickly, cheer unaffected, letting them go back to their work. Bubba, however, seems torn, lagging behind and looking back and forth between you and Drayton. It IS a party, after all. He should stay and get to know you!
“Ain’t they fun? I think they’re fun.” He grins back at you again.
While Bubba lingers in the distance, you have Chop Top’s full attention, which may or may not be a good thing!
J: Thank you so much!! Life is insane, now and always, but as long as I have her at my side I know I can do anything. I love her with all of my heart, and look forward to every moment of our future together, no matter what that future turns out to be.
Cause nothing will ever change the love I have for her... Not misfortune, not death, not even anything she could do. Here's hoping for many more years of unconditional true love, honesty, and lots and lots of horror movies ♥️
V: Being with Jess has always been a blessing. I had absolutely no idea how to win her, and I still have no idea how I'm keeping her! Regardless, I plan to leech onto her love for as long as I can~
I hope every road I travel, I can travel with her. 💕 Thank you so much.
