I woke up today to find my apartment on fire. Some old wire in my attic shorted out overnight and sparked a fire. I got out safely and the fire department put it out before it spread too far out of the attic, but the kitchen is a disaster and I'm currently homeless. The fire had been burning in the attic all night, and I happened to wake up right as it was starting to burn through my ceiling into the kitchen. Had it spread a few hours earlier, I might not have woken up until it was too late. Had it spread a few hours later, I would have been at work and my entire apartment (and cat) would be gone. It's hard to be positive right now, but I was incredibly lucky today. It really could have been so much worse.
