You don’t have to be grateful that it isn’t worse.
read that. read it again, and again, and again. somebody, somewhere, always has it worse than you. there is one person on this planet that has it the worst of all, and that person is NOT the only person allowed to be unhappy with their lot. if things are bad for you, they are bad for you. period.
This goes for trauma as well. A lot of times survivors get trapped in a cycle of minimizing/diminishing their trauma because “other people have it worse” - but there is no hierarchy of trauma. There is no ranking system for which traumas are “better” or “worse.” Your trauma is valid. Period.
IMPORTANT TRUTHS.
As a therapist, lemme just say: almost every trauma survivor I’ve ever had has at some point said “But I didn’t have it as bad as some people” and then talked about how other types of trauma are worse. Even my most-traumatized, most-abused, most psychologically-injured clients say this.
The ones who were cheated on, abandoned, and neglected say this. The ones who were in dangerous accidents/disasters say this. The ones who were horrifyingly sexually abused say this. The ones who were brutally beaten say this. The ones who were psychologically tortured for decades say this. What does that tell you? That one of the typical side-effects of trauma is to make you believe that you are unworthy of care.
Don’t buy into it, because it’s nonsense. It doesn’t matter if someone else had it “worse.” Every person who experiences a trauma deserves to get the attention and care they need to heal from it.

“Shit!” Her body tensed as she twisted her body away from the girl who had suddenly come out of the woodwork as she was turning back around toward the counter, the quiet of the night as the diner was soon to close the only thing she could have heard. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to,” she gestured to her face to indicate she was apologizing for the swear, her words falling away as her heart beat as loud as a symphony, her breath a close match.

Please reblog this is if you would rp with trans muses.
lost-prince-of-corona:
I see a lot of people unwilling to rp with me because my muse is trans, and because of that I feel nobody in the rp community ever will. So, yeah, reblog if you would rp with trans muses (nonbinary muses included).
Your history is written in blood and bruises.
honestly i think my love for poi has ruined my love for other shows because:
-it has a bisexual woc (persian) who isn’t portrayed as a terrorist
-it was one of the first tv shows ever to show a married gay couple on screen (critical, 2x7)
-it has the most unproblematic white male lead who is just the biggest cinnamon roll on the planet (john reese)
-they didn’t have a gay couple on the show to attract viewers, they saw the chemistry and went with it because it worked on screen so well
-none of the characters in the show have ever given any kind of reaction other than respect towards root and shaw, in terms of their feelings for eachother and the fact they are women
-the fact shaw is neurodivergent is treated with so much understanding and respect
-they had a female, black kick ass cop who was also the best goddamn single mum in the world and took down an entire deadly criminal organization by herself
-it teaches the important lesson that just because you were once on the wrong path doesn’t mean you can’t change and that second chances will always be incredibly important, especially regarding root and fusco
bold which habits your muse has
nail biting | throat clearing | lying | interrupting | chewing the ends of pens | smoking | swearing | knuckle cracking | thumb sucking | muttering under their breath | talking to themselves | nose picking | binge drinking (depending) | oversleeping | snacking between meals | skipping meals | picking at skin | impulse buying | talking with their mouth full | humming/singing to themselves | chewing gum | leg jiggling | foot tapping | hair twirling | whistling | eye rolling | licking lips | sniffing | squinting | rubbing hands together | jaw clenching | gesturing while talking | putting feet up on tables | tucking hair behind ears | chewing lips | crossing arms over chest | putting hands on hips | rubbing the back of their neck | being late | procrastinating | doodling | shredding paper | peeling off bottle labels | forgetfulness | running hands through hair | overreacting | teeth grinding | nostril flaring | slouching | pacing | drumming fingers | fist clenching | pinching bridge of nose | rubbing temples | rolling shoulders
Erasing a white character to make them POC is just as bad as erasing an POC character to make them white.
It doesn’t matter whether the character is originally a POC or originally Caucasian; changing the nationality from anything this isn’t what was originally written for that character is considered WHITEWASHING.
If you take Sam Wilson and change his FC from a POC FC to a Caucasian FC, that is WHITEWASHING.
If you take Steve Rogers and change him from a Caucasian FC and make him a POC FC that is WHITEWASHING.
IT DOESN’T MATTER WHICH WAY YOU CHANGE THE FACE CLAIMS, IT’S STILL WHITEWASHING.
You can not say that change a POC FC to Caucasian FC is WHITEWASHING but say that changing a Caucasian FC to a POC FC ISN’T WHITEWASHING. You can’t have it both ways. That is contradictory to itself.
No. Just….no.
WHITEWASHING is endemic across mainstream media. It’s a practice that has been used for years by Hollywood to strip people of their cultures and racial identities. It’s a way of discriminating against the already underrepresented. Note that term there. UNDER REPRESENTED. When there is next to no representation of one facet of society, to silence those voices and those experiences is tantamount to erasure. And the vast majority of people acknowledge that this is WRONG. Whitewashing is something we, as a multi-cultural society, should’ve long since laid to rest.
RACEBENDING on the other hand, is the means of adding diversity and representation back into the media. It’s about levelling the playing field and making sure that ALL voices and identities are given the opportunity to be heard. There is no shortage of white roles or white representation in the world. It’s not erasure, but rather a means of making the fictional entities with which we’ve grown accustomed ARE actually representative of the world in which we live. It isn’t the same thing.
To quote Anjali Patel of TMS:
If people of color were fairly represented in mainstream franchises — not just by the number of bodies, but by the complexity and relatability of their characters — then perhaps we could have a fair conversation about race bending in both directions. But until that representation is there and the history of erasure overcome, there’s no equating the elimination of spaces intended for non-white bodies with creating room for people of color to exist on screen.

“WAIT—” She held a hand out, bracing herself for the sudden impact of the stake to her heart before it never came. Caroline breathed a sigh of relief, opening her eyes to look up at the girl above her. “I don’t think you want to kill me,” she backed away slightly, swallowing. “Not when I can be useful.”
The hesitation she’d just exhibited annoyed Carmela. She wasn’t meant to stop all because the thing she was meant to slay wanted a couple of extra seconds; extra seconds could make for dead slayers. “Oh yeah?” She said with a mocking smile, taking a step forward when she saw the blonde take a step backwards, “like every other vampire that has said that?”
