Happy Yule! It is the first full moon after the new moon after the winter solstice making it the time to celebrate true pagan Yule! The old calendar was a lunisolar one and all the high festivals would have been held on full moon nights. It is an auspicious time for sacrifice and prayer. In the past on this night men would dress as wolves and goats and go from house to house in a wild band demanding food and drink. Still to this day the wild hunt is said to be able to be seen on the night of Yule posing danger to travelers in remote locations. It is this a time to be home, to light a fire, to be a good host to any who come to your door and to remember those who came before you.

Hibernating bear painted with ink I made when I was much younger from various forest detritus I collected. I remember using the gall of the wild roses that grow out from under the porch of my grandparents cabin specifically. I haven’t really used this ink much in all these years but it smells like nutmeg and cinnamon so those must’ve been in the recipe as well.
