This is so cute! I like it how shows a bit of his personality when the cameras are not on him. Just like battle tower, you don’t see the ultra hammy champion persona Leon has when out in public. Here’s him just being a young adult whose nervous because at the end of the day the Galarian star tournament is his creation and he wants to do well with you, the new champion. Also, this is probably the first time in his life he’s actually had to worry about holding someone back as you’re the new strongest trainer in the region (even though he’s probably been one of the best partners of the tournament, I’ve never had his entire team knocked out when he partners with me).

coming back to this because i JUST learned that piers’ obstagoon is one of the few trainer pokemon in the game that is EV trained (in defense & special defense, specifically)! for comparison, none of the other gym leaders’ pokemon have maxed out EVs.
