kusuke KNOWS hes the favorite child of him and kusuo, and he takes advantage of that fact- he KNOWS their parents wont defend kusuo, they wont even say a damn word and they never have, so he antagonizes him right in front of them.

when kusuke mentions buying the house for them, he makes fun of some of kusuos most traumatic moments in his life right in front of them and their parents dont even acknowledge it, and kusuo doesnt defend himself.

its true that kusuke was neglected too, their parents dont pay enough attention to kusuke to think about why or even notice that he was acting out, but dont forget who was the victim of him acting out... half of kusukes neglect is literally BECAUSE they didnt care about kusuo getting hurt. they watched kusuke quite literally try over and over again to hurt kusuo, and they didnt say a word because they didnt notice or care.

I mean I'd been thinking about making a post about it and this is as good an excuse as any.

It's pretty much outright stated in canon that Kuusuke gets off on losing to Kusuo.

If I saw Kuusuke's face here out of context (andI didn't remember it was from here) I would assume it came from an NSFW scene. There's also stuff like Kuusuke building an anatomically correct robot replica of his brother and placing the limiter on his crotch in the final showdown arc so Kusuo would have to grab at that area to take it from him (though you can argue that these are both just dirty tricks meant to take advantage of Kusuo's discomfort with such things.

I usually tone this down when I'm writing him because firstly I'd generally rather not have to deal with this and more importantly I'd much rather focus on all the other things wrong with the Saiki brothers' relationship since those are more interesting.

As for my own thoughts on why he's like this, I've heard that sometimes the brain struggles differentiate between fear and arousal and this combined with his preexisting obsession and view of Kusuo as the only worthwhile thing in the world to truly unpleasant effect.

I also really like @/oatmealcrisp-freak's take on the topic (tl;dr Kuusuke is sex-repulsed aroace but became convinced that Kusuo could be an exception, a conviction which he becomes disbursed of after the events of the final Psihowdown arc) and tend to integrate it into my interpretation of Kuusuke because I feel it does a good job explaining Kuusuke's weird cocktail of behaviors and traits.

I also think part of his behaviour is to do with wanting to feel powerful or in control (the limiter on the crotch etc.). I don't know if he's exactly attracted to Kusuo but he definitely likes to humiliate him in a way that I would consider sexual harassment. In real life sexual harassment often doesn't come from attraction at all but from a desire to make someone feel uncomfortable, which makes the harasser feel like they have power over them - and I can certainly see that being Kusuke's motivation, since he feels so powerless compared to Kusuo.

There's also the creepy masochistic thing, which I think comes from the fact that he's unchallenged by everyone other than Kusuo. Growing up being downtrodden and defeated every day and then suddenly moving out and being challenged by nobody probably did something in his brain. This experience of being humiliated all the time happened very early in his life, it's a feeling that's very deep-rooted in his mind so I guess that's just what his brain did to deal with it. That point about mixing fear and arousal also makes sense.

Tl;Dr: I don't think Kusuke is attracted to Kusuo exactly but he's still a creep and it doesn't make his actions any better.

Yeah, I agree that a lot of it is definitely a control thing. Everything's a control thing with this guy.

Like I don't think he's in love with Kusuo or even wants to have sex with him. I think that Kuusuke doesn't even like sex and would only ever consider having it as some sort of sordid power play.

As for the masochism thing I think that it's also that Kuusuke throws himself at impossible and near impossible challenges because the prospect of overcoming them is the only thing that gives his life meaning. Achieving "easy" things means nothing to him, not only because they're insufficiently simulating, but also because even though he knows he's smart I think that he sort of views his level of competence as the standard that the rest of humanity is just too stupid and worthless to meet.

this post came in mind after my unadapted chapters list, in which i was horribly reminded of chapter 264, the worst case of kunihara’s treatment of kusuo being present. in which he physically attacks him. he misses, yes, but he attacks him. (and kusuo’s poor surprised face. his dad likely did it without thinking, and obviously he didn’t expect to be attacked like that. its horrible)

what infuriates me though, is its played for comedy in this chapter. this isn’t humor, its a blatant display of abuse.

he does a similar thing earlier in the manga, but its excused as “revenge”, or him “helping” kusuo’s shoulders.

its clear that he doesn’t actually care much for his youngest son, or either of them really.

in this chapter its revealed that he supposedly does love kusuo as much as he loves his wife, but honestly that means nothing. parents can easily have a sense of false love for their children, in which they believe they care for them and are doing the best, when in reality they aren’t. kunihara likely believes his oh so powerful son doesn’t need any attention from his parents, and that he loves him by respecting this. at least, that’s what I believe.

also, the many, many instances of kunihara calling kusuo a monster or a freak. where do you think kuusuke picked it up? theres no way he was just born ready to hate his brother, not to mention kuusukes other tendencies. he learned from his father that it was okay to treat kusuo like that, and it was okay to attack him. (my ideal fanfic is kuusuke realizing all this and making an effort to change)

kunihara is the worst fucking person, let alone parent. and such an abusive twat. I have so much damn hate for this man.
