Hi, I have an idea for Chishiya if it's okay! He have something going on with Kuina's friend, and after she didn't came back from a game everyone thought that she died, but she actually just left (she didn't want to become too attached to Chishiya maybe?) and 1 month later the militants found her and Chishiya is rather cold toward her because she left him without saying anything. Happy ending if possible, please
Thanks for requesting, here you go. Enjoy! đ„°

{Alice In Borderland Masterlist}
Character(s): Chishiya (ft. Kuina, Niragi)
Summary: You run away from the beach, but soon were found by the militants again. Chishiya, your closest companion, is mad when you return for not saying anything.
Warning:Â mention of sexual harassment, swearing, grieving, heavy angst
âIâm so sick of this shit Kuina. Sheâs gone. What the hell do we do now?â
Chishiya and Kuina sat on the top roof of The Beach. Their legs were dangling over the edge, above the groups of people who sang their hearts out over the loud music. They couldnât be down there themselves, not that night.
âItâs so unfair,â Chishiya grumbled, rubbing his stained eyes with his hands. âI hate how everyone just moves on like nothing happened.â
Kuina sniffled, trying to control her runny nose as she listened to Chishiyaâs pained words. âLook Chish, it was going to happen to one of us three at some point, it just happened to be Y/N.â Kuina tried to keep her voice stable, but the occasional voice crack gave away her sadness.
âYes I know, but it still hurts so fucking bad.â
You hadnât returned from your game. You hadnât returned back to Chishiya and Kuina. You hadnât returned home.
*******
âOi Y/N! Slow the hell down!â
You heard Kuina yell out to you from down the hall. You laughed at her desperate attempt to catch up while Chishiya walked at his own pace watching you guys.
âWhy are we suddenly having a race?! We have all day to get down to the pool!â Kuina called out. You stopped in your tracks and turned around to face her. âI want to get down there before the sun comes out and everyone wakes up! Donât you want to have it just for us three for a while?â
âI suppose so,â Kuina breathed out heavily.
Chishiyaâs lips pulled up into a smile as he watched you too bicker. âOi you two. Be quiet. People in these halls are still sleeping,â he said.
Kuina turned to Chishiya and pulled a mocking bored face towards him. âWell youâre fun this morning,â she muttered in a sarcastic tone.
All three of you made your way to the pool on the bottom floor of The Beach, tripping and shoving each other playfully while giggling. You hardly ever did this together, because Chishiya always slept until noon, so you were excited about having the pool to yourselves before the sun came up.
When you reached outside, your chatters and the sound of your bare feet on the pavement broke the silence of the night. You hoped that Hatter kept the windows closed to his suite because you knew if you woke him up he would come down and beat your asses for being awake so early.
You looked over towards the pool that was still lit up with underwater neon blue lights from the night before. Youâd think that they would shut all the lights off at least to save a bit of electricity, but apparently not.
Kuina had thrown her towel down carelessly on a nearby deck chair and was now chasing after Chishiya, who powered his short legs to try and escape her.
âChishiya youâre going in the pool! You canât chicken out forever!â she yelled as she caught up to him and wrapped her strong arms around his waist.
You could tell the years of martial arts training paid off for Kuina as she lifted Chishiya into her arms like he weighed nothing. âBitch, put me down! I donât want to go in the pool! Why is that such a crime!?â
You doubled over in laughter as Kuina held the cat-like blonde in her arms, him squirming more violently as she got to the side of the pool.
âGoodbye!â she yelled and dropped him into the pool. His screaming cut off as he was submerged into the water. You walked over and placed your stuff down, listening to Kuina and Chishiya bickering in the background.
It was a shame that you were planning on walking out on these guys. But in a world like this, the bad moments really outweighed the good ones.
âAlright youâre next!â you heard behind you, making you snap out of your short daze.
âWait, no!â you bellowed as Kuina repeated the same thing she did with Chishiya. This time, it was his turn to laugh at you.
âJesus christ woman. The fuck got you so lively this morning?â you laughed at Kuina, who gracefully dived into the pool to tease you two.
You felt Chishiya tuck his chin on your shoulder gently, taking you by surprise. âI guess we got to act as happy as we can now. Our five day visa ends tonight.â Chishiya mumbled to you two.
The air around the three of you suddenly became stiff at the mention of the games. You lifted your hand and placed it on Chishiyaâs damp hair. âItâs alright, it was a fun and relaxing five days while it lasted,â you said cheerfully.
âDonât say that like as if youâre going to die,â Chishiya scolded you. âYou wonât die, none of us three will.â He was trying to reassure himself that he would come back from his game with you all happy and healthy waiting in the lobby for him. He hoped for that exact reality every time he had to leave you to restore his visa. He panicked even when you were ten minutes later than usual. It was a constant battle with anxiety when it came to caring for you in a world like this.
But unfortunately, while Chishiya was willing to fight against the growing anxiety that came with loving you, you didnât want anything to do with it.
You and Chishiya have been as tight as two peas in a pod since Kuina introduced you. Kuina and you happened to meet at a diamonds game that was further in the centre of the city which was where you appeared in the game. She was nice enough to take you back to The Beach, because she thought that your intelligence and gentle personality would be useful.
But the plan of using you for Kuina and Chishiyaâs own personal gain went out the window when both of them built a strong connection with you. They tried so hard to stop it, but in the end, they decided to make you an addition to their little manipulative games with the others. A mysterious duo became a peculiar trio.
Thatâs when Chishiya began to notice other things he felt.
He began feeling an irrational attachment to you, always wanting to be around you and always wanting to make sure that you were safe. You began noticing his additional little quirks as well, as soon you both fell for each other, without the other knowing of course.
Kuina obviously knew, as she was incredibly observant. She always kept her mouth shut though, wanting to see the drama play out in front of her. It was entertaining at times.
âYou two are cute,â she gushed at you and Chishiya, holding a cheeky smile on her face.
Chishiya tucked his face into your neck to hide his blush, but it only made your heart skip a beat. âShut up,â he mumbled into your skin.
You sighed heavily as he kept his place there, snaking his arms around your waist. This was honestly normal. The closer youâve gotten with Chishiya, the less shy heâs been to convey physical affection. You loved and hated it at the same time, because you knew the more he made your heart race, the harder it would be to leave him.
At times you thought youâd rather deal with his cold and untrustworthy personality, like how he was when he first met you. It was easier to dislike him then, but now that his real personality has shown through, you realized how good of a person he actually seemed to be.
Chishiya never became close to someone, because he knew it would be hard to pull away when he needed to use them for his own survival. So heâs just always chosen to keep everyone at a distance.
You on the other hand, you hadnât fallen down the deep whole of caring fully for someone in this world, but you knew you were about to stumble off the edge.
While Kuina and Chishiya waited to renew their visas, you waited to run away from the stress of waiting for your friendâs potential deaths.
******
You, Kuina and Chishiya trudged down the steps that led to the lobby. Hatter had called everyone to meet there a few minutes ago to prepare for the games. Hearing the familiar bell ring throughout the so-called paradise made your heart weaken. It was calling you to your end, every single time.
The trio of you took your usual place towards the back of the lobby, leaning against the cement walls and looking over everyoneâs heads. How weird it felt, that by the time you gathered here next, the number of people would reduce by a couple dozen. It made your stomach sink in remorse. You truly were nothing more than soldiers fighting a war that wasnât your own.
You looked down at your own feet, beginning to feel guilty about your plan of running away. The people you would abandon, the friends who would miss you. And even they canât come find you, but you knew it was for the best. For both you and them.
You felt something tickle your hand. You glanced your eyes down to see that it was Chishiya, trying to sneak his hand into yours as Hatter began his booming speech across the crowd. You looked up to the blondeâs face, but he was focused on Hatter. You smiled sadly and accepted his hand into yours, earning a soft squeeze from him.
Kuina placed her head on your shoulder, leaning closer towards you. It was as if they knew, and they were trying to get you to change your mind. You felt tears building up in your eyes, but quickly wiped them away with your hoodie sleeve before anyone noticed.
Damn. You were never going to forget them.
******
Chishiya sat in the leather lounge in the lobby. He had just arrived back from his spades game. Wasnât too difficult, for him at least.
Only now he was stressing inside, leg bouncing up and down on the carpet quickly. He knew you wouldnât return for a good while, but yet he always was worried about you. No matter the situation.
Niragi didnât help the situation. He strolled over earlier with a few of his militant mates and roughed Chishiya up for a bit. He honestly wasnât in the mood for their antics, so he didnât fight back much. They eventually got bored and walked away.
There hardly was anyone in the lobby, it was strangely quiet.
Chishiya looked towards the entrance to the lobby where a small group of people just walked in from. He recognized them as the group Kuina was placed with, so he stood up from his seat and quickly made his way over.
He managed to spot Kuina walking by herself at the back of the group. Chishiya let out a relieved sigh and strolled up to her. âThank god youâre okay,â he said, giving her a short hug. âYou too,â she replied.
They walked back over to where Chishiya was sitting beforehand and sat down. âDo you know who Y/N went with?â Kuina asked.
âNo idea, I had to leave with my group before hers,â he answered.
They both sat in silence for a while, hearts squeezing in on themselves from tension.
As group after group piled into the lobby and moved to go to the back pool to celebrate their wins. While their hearts and minds were overflowing in joy of surviving, Chishiyaâs and Kuinaâs slowly became heavier and heavier with grief.
One of the last groups finally came back, being a few hours later than everyone else. Chishiya searched the small crowd for your familiar face, but didnât see it.
âKuina,â he started with a tense voice. âDonât say it,â she immediately cut him off. âDonât say anything Chish. Sheâs fine, I know it.â
That became harder and harder to believe the later into the night it got. Soon enough, no one was left in the halls and the lobby, either gone to bed or stayed out in the pool area.
Chishiya didnât know what to say. He couldnât feel anything. His body was tired from the constant tensing, the constant anxiety.
He stood up abruptly and looked towards Kuina, who had her head in her hands. He gave her a sad smile, and reached his hand out to help her up. âCome on, letâs go to the roof like old times,â he smiled, fighting the tears building up in his eyes.
*********
When they reached the top of the building after climbing many annoying flights of steps, Chishiya tilted his head back to feel the wind blow around his head. He opened his eyes and saw the galaxy of stars above him. âSo weird,â he thought to himself. âIn a horrible place like this, such beautiful things can still exist.â
Kuina and Chishiya sat on the edge of the roof, feet dangling off the edge. Complete silence took over them. Neither of them knew what to say.
Kuina broke her gaze off the staggering height of the drop below them and glanced at Chishiya. He was staring straight ahead of him, hoodie covering his face so she couldnât see what he was looking at.
âChish, are you okay?â Kuina asked quietly, leaning forward to try and see his face. It felt strange to her, having Chishiya be completely silent for a change. Usually he would be making a smartass comment or a teasing joke towards her or Y/N. It was like the happiness in him had drained out.
He didnât answer for a short moment, but then he turned his head to look at Kuina in the eyes. Kuina was taken back.
Chishiya had pools of tears cascading down his pale face, mixing with the sweat that he still endured from the game. He let out no sobs and no cries. Just dry, empty tears running down his cheeks like doves flying down the edge of a cliff.
âNo, Iâm not okay,â he muttered to her. âThis fucking sucks.â
*******
It had been a few weeks since your death, not that there was a huge difference at The Beach from your disappearance. Everyone carried on like normal, everyone except Kuina and Chishiya.
They became secluded, more than usual. Kuina spent most of her time in the hotelâs gym, trying to distract herself from everything that happened. She wanted to get stronger so she could win games, she knew thatâs what you would have wanted.
Chishiya however, he wasnât taking your death well at all. Chishiya lost his fire, his headstrong attitude and snappy remarks. He kind of disappeared himself, but only his body stayed.
He felt stupid at times. What would he have expected? Of course you died, knowing his luck. He began irrationally thinking, believing that the world took you away because he didnât deserve someone as warm-hearted as you. He felt cheated almost. It was like the universe had you dangling on a string in front of him, and when he finally had the courage to reach towards you, it yanked you away out of his view.
When he was having particular hard days, he would lie on his bed in his room for hours, not bothering to get up for food or the bathroom. He felt numb inside, he honestly thought nothing would be able to hurt him anymore, because heâs endured the worst of his emotions.
The mirror in his room was smashed, due to his own doing. He broke it a few days after the incident, screaming into the stuffy air of his room and throwing one of his makeshift knives at it. He watched in pain as it crackled and crumbled under the impact, seeing his own reflection fall into a million pieces, much like how he was feeling at that moment.
He had never experienced this kind of hurt before. He always thought other people were being dramatic when they broke down crying after hearing their significant other or friend didnât make it back to The Beach. He thought that it shouldâve been expected, that they shouldnât be surprised that it happened. But he guessed you never know what another person is feeling unless you experience it yourself.
But god, does he wish he didnât, because it hurt more than a thousand knives to his cold, stone heart.
**********
One day, Chishiya was standing on the edge of a balcony that looked over the entrance to The Beach. He enjoyed standing up there because he loved the spectacular view of the ocean. It reminded him of his real home, when he used to ride his bike down to the beach with his friends and swim in the water for hours. He missed life when it was so easy for him.
The breeze was cool on his skin, giving him goosebumps. It felt refreshing and somewhat free, a small taste of bliss for him. His eyes were shut as he listened to the crows screech in the distance and the ocean waves hit the shore. The sound of nature rang in his ears, making his endorphins swirl in his brain.
It was a good break every now and then from the usual melancholy emotions that swarmed around him, keeping his happiness locked down in chains. While he was on that balcony, actually breathing fully and normally for once, his demons decided to let loose of the chains that held his sweet happiness trapped.
Chishiya opened his dark eyes and glanced downwards towards the bottom level and saw something that caught his eye.
A group of three militants seemed to have a young woman in their grasp, one of them being Niragi himself. Chishiya watched as they tried hard to hold the smaller person at bay, as she was thrashing around trying to escape.
He frowned, confusion painting across his face. That girl, she looked oddly familiar.
Niragi told the militants to bring her around the side of the building, where a small alley was located beside the entrance. Chishiya knew thatâs where the militants dragged people to kill them off, they were planning on killing her.
Chishiya wondered what she did that was so bad. Hatter hardly ever gave the order to kill someone, unless the situation was betrayal or anything worse.
He moved himself along the balcony towards where the commotion below him was occurring. He wanted to hear what they were saying, because who knows what shit Niragi gets up to without Hatter knowing. It seemed a little too suspicious to be dragging someone to their death in broad daylight, especially where everyone could see.
Chishiya heard slight fragments of what they were yelling: âYou thought- ⊠run away?!â Niragi screamed in his psychotic voice. âLet go of-...! âŠcould have just left me there!â
Chishiya felt his heart drop. That voice, it was all too familiar. How could he have forgotten what your voice sounded like.
He lifted his head and stared forward in shock. That couldnât be right, youâve been dead for weeks!
He thought for a second, trying to come to a possible conclusion with the horrific yells in the background of his mind. How is it possible you could still be alive?
That couldnât be you, it just couldnât be. Chishiya shook his head and chuckled. âThe fuck am I thinking? Great, now Iâm hallucinating. No one told me that was another stage of grief.â
He turned his body to walk back inside to look for Kuina, until he heard the young woman getting attacked yell again, this time, clear as day.
âChishiya! Kuina!â
That was it. That was definitely you.
Chishiya lifted his legs and began sprinting towards the staircase inside. There was no doubt in his mind that that wasnât you. The way you said his name was too real to not be you.
He tripped and stumbled down the stairs, almost falling flat on his face on one flight. He had to get there before you were dead, for real this time.
As he pushed his entire body weight against the entrance doors to the hotel, he pulled a small knife out his white hoodie pocket. He had made it out of glass from his broken mirror, considering that Hatter wouldnât allow him to have his own weapons.
Your screams were much more prominent now, more desperate sounding and more fearful. The sound pierced through Chishiya as he made his way quickly around the side of the hotel.
There you were, being pinned against the wall by two militants while Niragi held the barrel of his rifle against your chest, right over your heart.
Chishiya yelled out, which probably wasnât the best idea considering his current situation. It was three tall men with guns against a small, frail man with a makeshift knife.
âChishiya! The fuck you doing here?â Niragi asked with a cheeky smirk on his face. God, Chishiya wanted to punch him so bad.
âLet her go Niragi, you donât want this to get ugly do you?â Chishiya threatened, holding his glass knife out.
Niragi laughed along with the other two militants. You still struggled against their grip, seemingly more calm with Chishiya distracting them.
âHow cute âey? Little blonde twink coming to save the love of his life, how sweet of you.â Niragi pressed, pushing his rifle harder against you just to push Chishiyaâs buttons.
âIf you havenât noticed Chishiya, she ran away! She never died like you thought she did! She ran away from The Beach, she ran away from you!âÂ
His words were like bullets in Chishiyaâs chest. He felt belittled and mocked, he hated it.
âShut up! She wouldnât do that!â he yelled frustratingly.
âOh really?! She wouldnât?! Then explain why we managed to find her strolling the streets of Tokyo! Not a scratch on her, and she seemed smart enough to run away when she saw us.â
Chishiyaâs scowl dropped on his face. He looked at you to see if you would deny it, but you had stopped struggling against the two men and hung your head low, not looking into his eyes.
He shook off the hurt he felt from this fact. He had to focus on getting you away from Niragi before he took time to think about other things.
âNiragi please. Just let go of her, I promise Iâll make it up to you,â Chishiya begged. He felt small, never has he ever begged for something in his life.
âHmm? How though? I was just about to have some fun with her before I killed her off. Why should I give that up just because you want me to,â Niragi spat at him. Your eyes widened in fear and you thrashed around in the grip that the militants had on you, panicking from Niragiâs threat.
Chishiya thought for a second. He would honestly give anything to bring you over to him. âMy cards. You can take credit for every card that I collect for a couple of months. If Hatter or Aguni asks, just say Iâm slacking. Iâll take any punishment they throw my way.â
You saw Niragi consider it before lowering his weapon off of your torso. You breathed out heavily in relief.
âFine, but donât expect me to do this again. You canât bribe me with everything you sneaky fuck.â Niragi growled. The two militants let go of you and followed him out of the alleyway and into the entrance of The Beach.
You leant against the wall, staring at Chishiya as he stared down at the ground below him. The air between you two was tense. You could tell he was mad, Chishiya was always silent when he was incredibly angry.
âChish, I-â
âDonât talk to me. Just come.â
Donât get me wrong, he couldnât have been happier to see that you were alive and well. But the betrayal he felt from the fact that you ran away from him greatly outweighed his happiness.
He walked briskly ahead of you, you didnât dare walk next to him or too close to him. He was scaring you a bit, and you wanted nothing but to sprint to your own room and hide from the rest of the world.
You were embarrassed and also frustrated you were caught. Trust Niragi and his cocky ass to find you.
Chishiya stopped in front of his own room, opened the door and gestured for you to walk inside. You hesitated before slowly making your way through the door. You hated how tense it was, it was the complete opposite of what you usually felt when you were around Chishiya.
You sat down on his bed, sitting in an awkward position and looked towards Chishiya. It was complete silence as he was frozen at the door, back towards you and holding the door handle harshly.
âWhat the fuck Y/N?â he mumbled. It was almost inaudible, but you could hear pain in his words, which made you immediately feel guilty.
âWhat the fuck was that? You ran away!?â he turned and yelled at you, tears building up in his eyes.
You flinched as his loud voice. You had never heard him yell in anger before, usually he kept his calm. You looked down to the ground, feeling your own eyes fill with hot tears. You felt like you were back in high school with your parents screaming at you for running away from home.
âI THOUGHT YOU DIED!â he shouted louder, âDO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH PAIN YOU PUT KUINA THROUGH?! HOW MUCH YOU PUT ME THROUGH?!â
You couldnât breathe. Pain and suffering dripped off his words like rain on a roof, coming together and creating an atmosphere that held air that was unbreathable. You suffocated on the oxygen, making you choke and cause tears to begin running down your cheeks.
âWhy!?â he cried. âWhy did you run!? There was no reason, me and Kuina could have protected you if you were too scared! Why did you think that running away was the only option!?â Chishiya stumbled closer to you, almost tripping over his own feet.
You flinched heavily as he placed his cold hands on your shoulders roughly. They were shaking from trying to hold your sobs in.
âWHY DID YOU LEAVE-â âChishiya!â you interrupted him by snapping your head up to meet your eyes with his. His face dropped as he saw the sadness behind yours, replacing the wonderful and cheerful happiness that once swam in your eyes like dolphins in a sea.
âI l-love you,â you mumbled out between your shaky breaths. âThat was the problem Chish. I-Iâm in love with you and it hurt too fucking bad to know that you could disappear out of my reach at any moment. I ran because I didnât want to watch you and Kuina die!â
Chishiyaâs own hands shook violently against your shoulders. He gazed into your eyes which were red and puffy from your tears. They were shining more now than they had ever before.
âYou donât have to leave Y/N,â he whispered, still trying to control his own breathing. âI want you here, next to me. Not out there, because when youâre out there, I canât be with you.â
You nodded and smiled sadly. Chishiya pulled his hand from your shoulder and cradled your face gently. He swiped his thumb over your cheek to get rid of the tears there. âI love you too, but I canât be without you.â
A grin crept onto your face as you looked into his eyes. You felt safer than ever in his arms, why did you think of ever leaving?
Chishiya wiped his own tears with his hoodie sleeve and put on a happier smile. âYou want to know how pathetic I am without you?â he giggled and held your hands in his.
âI almost threw myself off the top of the hotel the night you didnât come back. Kuina had to tackle me to the ground to keep me away from the edge.â he laughed at himself.
You chuckled along with him. âImagine if you did! What a shocker it wouldâve been if I came back and Kuina saw me alive after you killed yourself because you thought I was gone!â
You both sat on Chishiyaâs bed and laughed at each other. You had to do it, humour is best in times of stress and anxiety.
*********
You opened your eyes slowly, only to be met with the blinding light of the sun seeping through the blinds. You hissed and turned your head the other way.
Chishiya chucked at your reaction, making his chest that was underneath your head vibrate. âSo cute,â he muttered to himself.
You pushed your face deeper into his chest and breathed in his scent. It felt good to be back with Chishiya. It felt good to be home.
Authorâs Note: oKaY so this ended up being a lot longer than expected. Please send in some requests if you have any! đ„°đ„°
Hello! I hope you are doing well on this fine day! Just wanna let you know that your writing is soo amazing!! I have tried writing stories before and it is really not easy so you are really awesome! I love your Alice in Borderland stories, they are so nice! I love Karube so much but sadly thereâs not much stories about him out there! You did really well for the story you wrote about him! đ„ș
Iâm really glad I got to to read your stories! Good luck and please have a nice day! Take care and stay safe!! â€ïž
Hey thanks so much! I love knowing that people enjoy my stories, makes me really happy haha. hope you have a good day đđ
Warning(s): (here we goâŠ) series ending spoilers, manipulation, (very) toxic relationship, psychopathic tendencies, narcissistic tendencies, gaslighting, mention of panic attack, mention of cannibalism, physical abuse, emotional abuse, murder, blood, slight suggestive themes, mention of self-harm, killing animals
Authorâs Note: I know I havenât written a fic in a while and Iâve been meaning to get back into it. I find headcanons a lot easier to do at the moment due to some stress Iâm experiencing. But for now hereâs some sfh content. Moonjo is written as his actual fucked-up personality in this, so if youâre expecting some sort of sappy romance stuff, this ainât it luv
A - Affection
Moonjo is very strange when it comes to expressing affection
heâs very unpredictable, so you would never really know what to expect from him
heâs very good at trying to come across as a soft loving partner
at random times he would show the sudden desire to take care of you
like cooking food for you, fiddling with your hair and rubbing soothing circles on your back when youâre lying on the couch
his double-sided personality is what keeps you on your toes
because at some times his psychotic personality would suddenly shine through slightly while heâs trying to convey ânormalâ affection
like maybe grabbing your neck a little too hard when youâre cuddling or watching you sleep in his lap with an empty stare
it made you uneasy, especially due to his monotone voice and scarily calm demeanour
so technically, he fakes the way he shows his affection because if he treated you like he really wished to in his head, he wouldnât be able to affectively manipulate you into believing he was a good boyfriend
Hello, my request is for Niragi âš Y/N was popular in high school and always protect him when he was bully. When they saw each other in Bordeland, she saw how much he changed and keep her distance from him (which he hates), and she have an attitude that make one of the militants wants to attack her but Niragi protect her like she did with him bc he would never admit her but she's his only weakness
Yessss Iâve actually been wanting to write something for Niragi that sounds very similar so Iâm glad you requested this! Thanks so much! đ

4 Years EarlierâŠ
The young boy grunted out in pain, having been hit with another rock right between his eyes. This one managed to crack his glasses, making his vision go all distorted.
His classmates around him roared with laughter. His heart filled with both anger and sorrow, wanting nothing more than to dissolve into the wind and out of his current situation.
âAww, little Niragi has become quiet. Whereâs those sarcastic remarks from earlier, they seemed to have left you,â his attacker mocked, adding a mean tone to his voice.
Just the usual. âMaybe they might end their target practice with me earlier today,â he hoped.
He had grown used to it. He now expected to be dragged under the bridge each day on his way home from high school, being pushed around and roughed up. Itâs not like he couldâve defended himself anyway. It was six guys against one, he never had a chance.
A short jab to the back of his neck broke him out of his thoughts. He groaned and doubled over, feeling as he was going to throw up. âCome on Niragi, fight back! Itâs no fun when you just stand there,â the blonde student complained, striding over to the weakened boy. He gave him a quick kick to his side, making him fall on his hip harshly.
âFuck off,â Niragi groaned under his breath, half hoping his tormentor didnât hear it. But unfortunately, the small remark reached his ears.
âWhat was that? Did you just try to defend yourself? Youâre going to have to use a lot more than just a few words you fucking loner,â the boy poked, giving Niragi another harsh kick to his stomach, making him become winded and choke on air.
He laid there taking their harsh words and hearing their mocking laughter ring in his ears. What did he ever do to deserve that?
âHey Haru!â
The blonde turned his attention from his target to the direction of the voice that called his name. There you stood, by yourself with no one else. You obviously didnât think the situation through before throwing yourself into it. You remained near the stairs that led down to below the bridge, holding something behind your back, but Haru seemed to not notice it.
Your heart skipped a beat when the group of high school boys all locked eyes with you, confused about what you were doing interrupting them.
âThe fuck do you want Y/N?â the blonde, Haru, asked you in an annoyed tone.
You gulped before answering him, trying to sound as threatening as you could without your voice cracking. âLet him go! Heâs done nothing to you, why are you giving him a hard time?â you spat at him, taking a few brave steps closer to the scene in front of you.
Niragi slightly lifted himself off the ground to look over at you. He recognized you from his social studies class. You both sat together at the back, and he always thought you were too nice for your own good.
Niragi sat up and shook his head, trying to warn you to stop what you were doing. He didnât want to drag you into his own problems. He wouldâve felt awful if you happened to get hurt while trying to help him.
Haru rolled his eyes and groaned at you. âWhy are you getting involved? This is none of your business,â he retorted, walking closer to you with the baseball bat in hand. You watched with fearful eyes as he swung the bat around, obviously to threaten you.
Your heart quickened and you felt it pound against your ribcage dramatically. As Haru got closer and closer, you stood your ground bravely, still holding your hand behind your back to hide your weapon from him. You werenât stupid enough to get yourself involved without having some kind of way to defend yourself.
âWell? Are you going to answer me or just stand and shake like the pathetic girl you are?â Haru tormented, a confident smirk growing across his face.
His comment made your blood boil. âDo you have a saviour complex or something? Why did you think you could help this son of a bitch?â he pressed, gesturing towards Niragi who was slowly rising to his feet with a worried expression on his face.
That was it. He was getting far too close to you for your own liking, so you decided that comment was the final straw. You rushed towards him and pulled out the large can of pepper spray from behind your back, aiming directly at his smug face.
He cried out in pain the moment the spray hit his eyes, dropping the baseball bat and covering his face with his hands. He tried desperately to rub the stinging liquid out of his eye with his school blazer sleeves, but it wasnât worth the effort as it only made it worse.
You moved quickly and picked up the bat that he dropped, running past him towards the other boys that were still gathered around Niragi. They all held shocked expressions on their faces.
âYou want some too?â you bluntly asked, thrusting the pepper spray towards them. They all flinched and stumbled to get away. You smiled, feeling empowered.
Haru and the others ran, thinking that beating up Niragi wasnât worth being blinded for.
You turned towards the bloodied boy standing against the wall looking at you in shock. You glanced at him, giving him a friendly smile. He returned it.
After that, you two became inseparable for the rest of your high school days, spending every waking moment together. With your tough attitude and Niragiâs shy demeanour, you were a strange friendship to have been made. You thought you would always stay together, until one day Niragi went missing.
You never guessed where he may have ended up, until you were sent there yourself a few years later.
*************
You breathed in a huge gulp of oxygen as the black bag was harshly pulled off your head. You tried to wiggle your hands to shield your eyes from the blinding sunlight seeping through the windows but struggled as you saw that your hands were tied to the armrests on either side of you. You groaned in frustration.
As the curtains closed so you could see probably, you saw a young woman with short black hair dressed in blue shorts and a white button up that was tied at the waist. âSorry,â she began. âI forgot to close that before removing the bag.â
You looked around at your surroundings. You noticed that there were several more people in the room. The room was large, stretching down further until it came to a stop at the end where a large wall stood, conveying a huge spray painting across it that consisted of every card from a deck of cards. Some were crossed out, while a few number cards and all face cards remained untouched.
You whipped your head around, feeling restless from the number of eyes staring at you. You donât remember how you got into this situation. All you remember is walking to a large light in the distance from your position on a bridge, being curious as to how it seemed to be the only building with electricity. Before you knew it, someone had grabbed you by the shoulders and shoved something over your head, making your vision go black and suddenly passing out.
You moaned in pain as you felt the back of your head throbbed, probably from when they punched you to knock you out.
âWhatâs going on?â you asked, struggling in your restraints more, trying to break free. An older man with glasses scolded you. âStay still, Hatter will be here soon.â
Just as he promised, two large doors on your left burst open, revealing a man with a long decorative robe and dark glasses on. He had two other men beside him, both holding revolver guns.
âAh! A newcomer!â he exclaimed excitedly, taking a big sip from his drink.
You froze, watching as he strides into the room further, making himself comfortable on a table in the centre of the room.
âA few of my militants tell me they found you sneaking around nearby The Beach,â he accused, pointing his finger at you.
You stared at him; confusion written all over your face. Militants? The Beach? What was he talking about?
After you didnât answer him for a moment, he let out a big sigh and jumped off the table onto his feet, beginning to talk himself.
He explained the current situation to you. About how the dynamic at The Beach worked, and that considering the number of high-level cards you had on your person, you seemed to be the perfect candidate to add to the ranks of everyone there.
âAnd remember, death to the traitors,â he said, spite filling his tone. He had listed off the three main rules to you, each one adding more dread for you.
âOkay, all good. But I just want to say. If you want people to help you collect cards, kidnapping them isnât the best idea. If it hasnât hit you yet, that would make people want to help you less,â you smartly said, trying to stop your lips pulling up into a smirk.
All the heads in the room turned to Hatter. No one has ever questioned his motives to his face before, especially a newcomer.
Except, he didnât get angry like everyone expected. Instead, he chuckled and held his drink out towards you. âCheers to that, I guess. Have fun!â
************
The Beach was a lot more crowded than you expected. Your eyes almost popped out of your head when you walked down to the bottom floor to the pool. People were everywhere; dancing, swimming, drinking, talking, smoking. It honestly couldnât have been more chaotic than it already was.
You spent most of the remainder of the day becoming familiar with the layout of the hotel. You found the room that you had been assigned to. You managed to score a room that was a little above average. Hatter decided to give you the benefit of the doubt and gift you a higher number due to your high number cards. He thought it was only fair.
You were sitting at a table nearby the bar. The sun had gone down but the party continued on through the chilly night air. You shivered, not being used to being dressed in a bathing suit twenty-four seven. You were annoyed that you werenât even allowed to wear some sweatpants to bring you some kind of warmth. You guessed you would just have to grow used to feeling the cold on your skin.
The warm beverage slipped down your throat, bringing you at least a little bit of comfort. You had made yourself a coffee inside, not in the mood for alcohol just yet. You honestly didnât like drinking without having anyone you trusted around you, just in case something was to happen.
You looked around the area, taking in everyoneâs faces to see if anyone appeared friendly enough to be nice to you. You needed to make some allies before the next game, otherwise you would be the first they would sacrifice.
As you scanned the crowd, your gaze landed on a particular male, who was sitting in a more done up booth nearby the pool. He was wearing a black and white checkered shirt with black skinny jeans. He had several piercings in his face, making him seem more threatening.
You squinted your eyes. Why did he look so familiar? You swore youâve seen him before.
You kept your gaze locked on him, watching as he communicated with the people sitting near him. You noticed that a huge sniper rifle was tucked behind him. He must have been a high-ranking militant, being able to carry a weapon like that around.
He suddenly flung his head back and let out a roar of laughter at something the guy next to him had said. You froze in your spot.
You could recognize that laugh anywhere. That loud, obnoxious laugh that used to come from your old friend Niragi from high school. Your best friend that randomly disappeared.
You blinked a few times before looking back at him. His facial features did match and the way he smiled seemed way too familiar to not be him.
How could he be here? Is this where he disappeared to a couple of years ago?
Your heart filled with joy and a wide grinned grew on your face. That had to be Niragi! Who else would it be?
You quickly stood to your feet, almost tripping on your chair in the process and began making your way towards his position.
Although, as you did so, another man approached him from behind, leaning over the seat and tapping his shoulder. Niragi turned with an angered scowl on his face, but it turned to a smirk once he heard what the man had to tell him.
You stopped in your tracks and watched as he leaped over the backrest of the couch suddenly, following the man with his rifle slung over his shoulders. They were headed to the door that led inside, so you quickly followed, wanting to reunite with your old friend from so long ago.
âNiragi!â you yelled out happily, trying to get his attention. A few heads turned at your voice around you, but he didnât manage to hear you over the sound of the music blaring through the speakers.
âNiragi!â you tried again, but this time you were blocked by a few people in your way. A small crowd gathered in front of you, not noticing you trying to get past.
Niragi turned his head at the mention of his name but couldnât see anyone calling his attention. He shrugged it off and kept following the man. He had told him that a young guy was causing some trouble inside one of the halls, so he was going to take care of it.
As you finally managed to force yourself through the small crowd that interrupted your path, you saw the Niragi and the man had already made it inside. You ran straight after them. You were feeling ecstatic, ready to throw your arms around him and give him the biggest hug ever to make up for all the days youâve been apart.
As you quickly made your way inside, you caught a glance of his checkered shirt turning the corner a bit ahead of you. You moved your legs as quick as you could, trying to catch up.
You turned the corner, about to yell out to him again, but your voice got caught in your throat when the sight in front of you met your eyes.
âYou really thought you could get away with this?!â
Niragi had a young boy pinned to the ground, pressing his boot against his upper back and shoving the barrel of his rifle against his skull violently. The boy below him was crying and begging for his mercy.
You had a small flashback to high school, when you saw Niragiâs main bully Haru shoving a baseball bat against the back of his head, him lying on the ground battered and bloodied.
It was the exact same scene. Only this time, Niragi was the tormentor himself.
âNiragi, Iâm sorry! It wonât happen again!â he cried desperately, clawing at the floor trying to get away.
Niragi lifted his other boot and stamped it down roughly onto the boyâs hand. You covered your mouth as you heard a few bones crack.
He leaned down closer to the boyâs face and lifted his head up his hair, making him whimper in pain. âIf I ever see you stealing from one of the executives again, this rifle will go down your throat and I wonât hesitate to blow the back of your skull out,â he hissed, sticking out his tongue and revealing the ball piercing he had.
The boy nodded, leaning away from Niragi as best as he could.
The man who led Niragi to the scene tapped him on the shoulder. âAlright thatâs enough. You donât want to give him PTSD,â he said calmly.
Niragi let out an annoyed groan. âBut I was just getting started with him!â he whined, letting the boy out from under his boot and watching as he scuttled away like a bug.
You couldnât move. You stayed put as the boy pushed past you, accidentally smacking into your shoulder in the process. Your eyes remained wide, staring at the tall man with fear written across your face.
This was not the Niragi you knew. It was not the Niragi you defended from those bullies. This was not the Niragi that used to be your closest friend, possessing a shy and timid personality. No, that Niragi was dead now. This was a devil standing in front of you. Nothing but a violent jerk that struck fear in anyone that he came across. What happened to him?
Unfortunately, you took a little too long to gather your thoughts and before you knew it, a rough grip was on your shoulders shaking you out of your daydream. You flinched in a panic as you saw Niragiâs angered face appear in front of yours.
âWhat are you looking at? You want some too?â he growled, shoving the barrel of his gun against your temple. You froze, staring into his dark, evil eyes, not knowing what to do.
You watched in confusion as his hard and angry facial features softened, rage turning into surprise, and even concern.
âOh my god,â he whispered, taking his hands off your shoulders and backing a way a bit in shock. You kept your eyes on him. You wanted nothing but for him to recognize you a few minutes before, but now you werenât so sure.
âY/N?!â he exclaimed suddenly, causing you to jump as his tone. A large smile grew on his face, only you viewed it as nothing but sinister and evil.
âOh my god Y/N! Since when did you get here?!â he asked excitedly. He quickly moved towards you again and held his arms out to give you a hug, but you backed away and shook your head, making him frown.
âWhatâs wrong? Donât you recognize me? Itâs me! Niragi! Your best friend!â
You shook your head again, trying to get the message across that you didnât want him near you. âSorry Niragi,â you mumbled, trying hard to keep your tears in.
You quickly darted around the corner, making your way to the staircase to run to your room. You felt overwhelmed. After everything that happened today, finding out that your closest friend was now a murderer was the last thing you needed.
Your stomach dropped as you heard heavy footsteps following closely behind you.
âWait Y/N! Please let me explain!â he tried to stop you, but you werenât going to give him any time after that performance with the young boy.
âPiss off Niragi!â you yelled, climbing the stairs as fast as you could, trying to get away from him.
You turned onto the floor that your room was located on, sprinting down the hallway. You glanced back over your shoulder to see that Niragi wasnât that far behind you. He had dropped his rifle, now trying to catch up to you empty handed.
You quickly busted through your door and immediately pressed your entire body weight on it. You silently cursed Hatter for not letting you have locks.
You heard him arrive in front of it, immediately trying to open it, but you stood your ground. He may have been tall, but there was nothing but skin and bones on him. He had no muscles to help him push through.
You held the door shut with your leg and reached for a chair to put against the handle so we wouldnât be able to open it. You managed to secure it underneath the handle and stood back, watching as Niragi tried to open it again, but failing.
âY/N please just let me in! Let me explain! I didnât mean for you to see that!â he cried. You almost felt guilty, hearing as he started tearing up behind the door while still attempting to let himself in.
âPlease Y/N! Let me in! I missed you!â
You covered your ears with your hands. You didnât want to listen to his pleas, it would do nothing but make you feel bad for him.
That wasnât Niragi outside your door, that was a cold-blooded killer that you wanted nothing to do with.
**************
The next few days you spend on alert around The Beach, looking around every corner for Niragi. As much as youâve missed him the past few years, that event that occurred with the young boy obviously showed that he was no longer the nice and caring friend that you used to have. If anything, he now has become what he hated most in his high school days, a selfish and careless bully.
Who wants to be associated with someone like that? Not you.
Although even though you managed to avoid him in person, his name was brought up wherever you went. A few people would approach you during the day and warn you that Niragi was looking for you. It only would make your anxiety spike, causing you to scatter off to a more secluded place somewhere at The Beach. Most of the time you would hide in your room, but on the few occasions you climbed to the roof or hung around Alice and Usagi (who you had befriended), you managed to keep away from the psychopath.
One day, you were sitting out on one of the tables out by the pool. It was still quite early in the morning, so there wasnât a lot of people around. The air was quite nippy, making you shiver against the cold breeze. You rubbed your arms up and down, trying to warm yourself up. Unfortunately, you hadnât grown used to the âalways wear bathersâ policy yet.
You felt a gentle hand lay itself on your shoulder, making your eyes widen and your head whip around to yell at whoever had dared to touch you, but you held in your harsh remark when your eyes met with Niragiâs.
âFinally! I found you!â he exclaimed, a sickening smile spreading across his face. You leant away from his touch, scooting your butt along the seat of the table, trying to make distance between the two of you.
Niragi obviously didnât like this.
âWhy are you avoiding me like Iâm some kind of disease? I just want to talk to you! I havenât seen you in years!â he said annoyed, taking a seat at the table.
You eyed his sniper rifle closely, watching as he placed it down on the table in front of him. You felt somewhat relieved that the barrel was pointing away from you. Who knew when he would decide to use that vicious weapon against you?
You blinked, not daring to say anything. You wanted to get out of the situation as soon as possible. It was unbearably uncomfortable.
âSorry Niragi, I have to go,â you stated, standing up out of your seat and moving to turn away.
Niragi gripped the back of your hoodie and pulled you so you sat down again, making you yelp in surprise. âNo, you donât. Stop avoiding me,â he growled, placing an arm around your shoulders and pulling you closer to him.
You closed your eyes tightly in discomfort. You swore you were so close you could hear his heart beating. With a short shove to the side, you got out of his grip and stood up again.
âNo, I do. Iâm sorry but I really donât want to talk to you,â you bluntly said, becoming agitated from his insistent behaviour. Why did he think he could just tell you what to do?
He frowned, standing up as well. âFine then, Iâll just come too. I donât care if you donât want to talk to me. You donât get a choice.â
You rolled your eyes and quickly started walking away from him, hoping to at least get a head-start to stay away from him. You heard him jog up to you as you kept walking, seeing his shadow appear right next to you.
You became more and more anxious the longer he followed you. He started to get a little too comfortable in his movements, even having the audacity to touch your hair and comment on how much itâs grown.
It got to a point where you had walked all the way to the lobby about three times, realizing that he wasnât even focusing on where you were going. You turned around just as he was reaching to grab your hand, looking him in the eye with anger written all over your face.
âCan you not take a hint?! Leave me the fuck alone!â you yelled, watching as his face contorted into shock at your tone.
âI donât want to have anything to do with you Niragi! Youâre fucking insane and sadistic! Has it not occurred to you that youâve literally become the soul thing that you hated in high school?!â you sassed, anger ripping from your words and smacking him in the face.
The few people in the lobby turned their heads at the sound of your arguing, being curious due to not seeing anyone ever dare to yell such vulgar words towards Niragi.
He tucked his hand into his jeans pocket and readjusted the rifle on his shoulder, almost looking bored. âYeah? And what would that be?â he asked, licking his bottom lip while staring at your menacingly.
You cringed as his movements. âA fucking asshole! A little bitch that preys on those weaker than him just so he can project his own hatred for himself onto them! Youâre pathetic Niragi, and itâs a real shame that no one has in this shithole has told you so. Because no one knows you like I know you, and I know that on the inside, you hate yourself more than anyone could ever hate you.â
You took in a deep breath, regaining your strength. You suddenly saw the irony in your words. You accused Niragi of projecting his anger onto others when you just did it yourself.
Niragi rolled his eyes, bringing his rifle down off his shoulder and fiddling with the bullet canister. You felt your heart stop from his actions, being afraid that he was going to use it on you.
âDonât act like you donât miss me Y/N,â he laughed, glancing his eyes back up to you.
You grunted in annoyance. âJust leave me alone, please,â you begged, turning around and leaving Niragi to the peeping eyes still staring at you both.
He turned his head to everyone in the lobby. As he did so, everyone turned back to what they were doing, being afraid of being caught staring and yelled at by him.
âThatâs right. Mind your own business,â he shouted out across the lobby to make sure everyone heard.
He watched you as you walked away, eventually turning the corner to go search for Alice and Usagi. At least they would give you some kind of security after what just happened.
He chuckled to himself, sticking his pierced tongue out and running it across his lips once again. âJust you wait Y/N, youâll come running back to me soon enough. You can only keep that tough façade up for so long. Just wait until people find out that youâre all bark and no bite.â
************
You stumbled your way to the entrance of the hotel, head throbbing in pain and legs aching from the muscle strain youâve put on them. You had arrived back from your game, being the only one that managed to survive. You didnât feel well, both physically and emotionally, so you were planning on slipping into a coma for a few days to sleep off the pain that you were feeling at that moment.
It felt like a huge effort to even lift your feet. You didnât feel like talking to anyone, so you werenât even thinking of checking in on Alice or Usagi. You said to yourself you would look for them tomorrow. You were in too much of a bad mood to engage in conversation. Youâd probably end up snapping at them, which wouldnât be fair on them since they just completed a harsh game themselves.
As you were just about to enter through the large glass doors before a young militant woman with short blonde hair pushed through before you even had the chance. She managed to even knock your shoulder during the process, making you hiss in pain.
She looked you up and down with a disgusted expression on her face. âWatch where youâre going,â she spat before continuing walking inside.
You rolled your eyes. âBitch,â you mumbled under your breath.
Her head quickly whipped around to meet your eye, an angered scowl on her face. âExcuse me?â she said in disbelief.
Your words got stuck in your throat. She wasnât meant to have heard that. âI-IâŠâ
âI-I..â she mocked you. You felt your adrenaline skyrocket. Youâve heard of this girl; she doesnât take things lightly.
âLook Iâm sorry, it just slipped out I promise,â you stammered out, putting your hands up in a surrender. You werenât in the mood for dealing with her shit, you were grumpy and tired. You hoped she would let you off with just a warning.
But she had different plans.
She grabbed you by the back of your hoodie, dragging you outside again and brought you over to a small alleyway that ran along the side of the hotel. You struggled in her grip and protested the whole way.
Although, you stopped fighting against her when she shoved you against a brick wall and pulled a revolver out of her jacket pocket, pushing it underneath your chin. You froze and looked at her with pleading eyes, begging for her to have mercy.
âYouâve messed with the wrong person you bitch,â she growled, giving you a quick jab to the ribs. You yelped in pain, clutching your side. It hurt ten times more, considering youâve already faced a horrific game that same night.
âIâm sorry!â you cried, feeling tears welling up in your eye sockets.
She scoffed and smirked at you. âWow, all bark and no bite huh?â she teased, throwing a kick to your shin, making you cry harder.
Her words angered you, making you see red for a short moment. You forgot about the revolver against your chin and gave her a quick punch to the jaw, making her head whip sideways.
She groaned, clutching her face and slowly turned back to you. You felt yourself fill with regret when you saw the look on her face. She looked like she was ready to kill you.
âIs that how you want it? Fine, have a hole in your foot. Maybe itâll manage to get you and your attitude killed off in the next game,â she snarled.
Your stomach dropped at her words. Before you could even protest, she pulled away and aimed the gun towards the ground and blew a quick bullet in the top of your foot.
You cried out, kneeling and grasping your foot in your hands in pain, biting your tongue so you didnât scream too loud. The pain of the bullet seeped from your foot and up your leg, spreading across your body.
The militant girl stood above you, laughing at your pathetic body lying on the ground. Your screams of pain brought her pleasure.
âDidnât think this would happen when you bad mouthed me, didnât you?!â she laughed, leaning down and pushing the gun against your head to threaten you more.
Another gunshot rang in your ears. For a moment you thought it was her and that she had put a bullet through your head, killing you. But then you heard a cry and saw the girl fall in the ground holding your shin with her head thrown back in a silent scream.
You were about to attempt to stand up to take this opportunity to run, but quickly jumped back down to the ground when another loud gunshot filled the air. You heard the bullet colliding with flesh as the girl flinched violently and cried out again.
You heard a menacing male laugh fill the air, and you glanced down the alleyway to see where it came from.
There stood Niragi, holding his sniper rifle out towards you both with smoke protruding from the barrel of it. A psychotic grin was painted across his face and you swore you saw his eyes shine red.
âWhy are you giving my poor love a hard time?! Maybe think twice before you put a bullet through my property,â he exclaimed, chucking and walking up to the girl giving her a harsh kick to the ribs.
You felt like you were about to throw up and hearing some of her ribs crack from the collision of her chest to his boot did not help your nausea.
You rubbed your eyes and pressed your forehead against the ground. You wanted to wake up, like this was all some bad dream. Before you knew it, you were silently sobbing on the floor, tears rolling out of your eyes and down your cheeks.
You felt two arms wrap around you, lifting you off the cold stone floor and into a warm chest. You winced and whined as the bullet wound in your foot shot a searing pain through your leg. Niragi shushed you quietly.
âShh, itâs okay. Iâve got you,â he whispered, placing his cheek on top of your head.
His behaviour was giving you whiplash. One second ago he was acting like a maniac, shooting holes through a young girl, but now he was carrying you by under your knees and your shoulders, your head tucked into his neck.
You were exhausted, your body not even listening to you. You tried to move your leg to force yourself out of his grip but didnât even have the strength to lift it. Your head was throbbing, and you couldâve passed out easily in his arms, but forced yourself to stay awake.
As Niragi walked past the lobby to get to the medical room, he attracted a few worried faces. Some even stood up to walk over and ask if you were okay. Everyone was terrified he had bad intentions with you, knowing how he was.
He ignored the few that approached both of you, rushing down the hall to escape them. He had to get there quickly so Ann could treat your bullet wound.
When he arrived, he pushed through the door harshly and called out to Ann with a worried tone. She stopped what she was doing and turned to the door to see Niragi holding you close to him protectively, blood dripping into the ground from your shoe.
âShit, bring her here.â She gestured towards an empty table in the middle of the room. Niragi rushed over and placed you gently on the metal table, letting you lean your upper body against him.
Ann brought over some large tweezers, a cloth, disinfectant and a bandage. You flinched at the sight of the tweezers, moving to get away from her. âNo, no!â you begged, trying to crawl up the table to get away, but Niragi grabbed your waist and pinned you against his chest.
âWe have to get the bullet out Y/N, we canât just leave it in there!â he argued, brushing your hair out of your face to calm you down.
You struggled against his grip as Ann held down your foot and carefully removed your shoe and sock. You looked down and saw a small hole in the top of your foot. How could such a small injury cause so much pain?
âAlright Niragi, keep her still. This is going to hurt,â Ann said shallowly, picking up the tweezers to try and remove the bullet.
âYep.â You felt his grip on you tighten and he tucked his chin on your head. âPlease just keep still Y/N, Iâm here. Itâs okay,â he cooed. His reassuring words didnât do much to ease your anxiety.
Niragi turned your face so you were nuzzled into his chest. He knew that making you watch Ann take the bullet would do nothing but freak you out more, so he wanted to protect you from the sight.
You felt fine until the pain in your foot suddenly skyrocketed, making you let out a piercing scream. You bit your tongue to try and quieten yourself, but it didnât do much.
Niragi frowned as he suddenly felt you go limp against him. He looked down at your face to see you had passed out, eyes shut tight and letting out soft breaths.
He smiled and brushed his fingers across your face. âSo cute,â he mumbled.
âWell, thatâs better. Maybe if we just knocked her out with a quick jab to the head, it wouldâve saved us the headache of trying to keep her down,â Ann stated bluntly, causing Niragi to laugh.
âYou know how this happened?â she asked him, raising her eyebrows.
âA bitch shot her just outside the hotel,â he said with an angry tone.
Ann didnât seem surprised. Events like that occurred a lot. She had removed a lot of bullets the time she had been there.
âWhat happened to the girl? Did she run when she saw you?â
âI didnât give her the chance to. She copped two bullets into her body for doing that to Y/N.â
âDid you think maybe Y/N was the one giving her a hard time?â
âDoesnât matter. I only saw her shoot the bullet, nothing else.â
âFair enough.â
***********
You cracked your eyes open to a room that most definitely wasnât your own. You groaned and sat up, wincing when the pain in your foot shot through your leg. Memories of yesterday filled your head. âI must have passed out in the medical room,â you said to yourself.
You scanned the room. It was much bigger than yours. The bed you were in was three times the size of yours, and this room even had a huge balcony. As you looked around more, you noticed that a bag of your stuff was placed near the closet.
You frowned. Why was your stuff from your room here?
Suddenly the door opened to reveal Niragi, walking in with a plate of a bread roll and a bottle of water. He saw you awake and smiled.
âAw little mouse is awake. Howâs your foot?â he purred.
You cringed at the pet name. âWhatâs it to you, dickhead,â you growled, getting out of the bed and standing up. You were wearing the same clothes that you wore to the game yesterday, minus the shoes and the jacket.
Niragi smirked and placed the food on a small table in the centre of the room. âHave you forgotten who saved your pathetic ass yesterday?â he asked, approaching you. âAnd also, donât stand on that foot. Itâs injured, you have to rest it.â He pushed on your shoulder lightly to make you sit on the bed again. He sat himself next to you and leaned towards your face.
You moved away from his face, hating how close he was to you. âYeah, but how did you know I even needed help? And donât tell me you were just going on a short stroll through the alleyway at eleven at night,â you said, scooting up the bed and leaning your back against the wooden bedhead.
Niragi chuckled. âWhat if I was? Are you accusing me of stalking?â he suggested.
You shook your head. âWhy is my stuff here,â you asked, changing the subject.
Niragi glanced over at the bag full of your stuff on the ground near the closet. He turned back to you with a smile on his face. âOh yeah! I forgot to say, youâre moving in with me,â he said excitedly.
You felt your stomach drop. âWhat? I didnât agree to this.â You swung your legs over the side of the bed and attempted to stand again. You could only place pressure on one foot, so you stood on one leg.
âOh, baby. I donât care if you donât want to. Youâre in here with me now, whether you like it or not,â he growled, reaching out towards you waiting for you to place your hand in his.
You stared at him, trying to see if he was joking or not. But from the serious look on his face, you didnât think he was.
âIâm not staying in here with you. Youâre a fucking psycho.â
You attempted to limp over to the door, wanting to escape Niragi as soon as possible. But you didnât expect him to be so insistent on you staying.
A sudden arm around your waist spun your around and Niragi pinned you against the door, his face far too close to yours for it to be comfortable. âDid you not just hear me? You donât get a choice love. Youâre stuck with me,â he rasped into your face with a scary smile across his.
Your breath hitched and you turned your head away as he moved his face closer, trying to force his lips against yours. You felt helpless.
âNiragi please. Let me go, Iâm sorry if I ever angered you,â you begged, pushing on his chest, but he wouldnât budge. âI promise if you let me go, we can go back to how we were in high school.â You were trying to do anything that would get him off you. Your heart was racing, and you were becoming more frightened by the second.
Niragi licked a long and slow stripe from your collar bone to the back of your ear. You cringed and sobbed at the feeling of his tongue and saliva on your skin. âMaybe I donât want it like it was back then. Maybe I want more Y/N,â he whispered.
He tucked his face into your neck and nipped at your skin. He had your arms pinned either side of you and his leg was holding your good foot against the door. You couldnât do anything to defend yourself.
âWhat have you become Niragi,â you sobbed after a short moment.
Niragi removed himself from your neck, leaning back to look at you. You stared into his eyes, seeing the same dark and beautiful orbs that used to make your heart race with love in high school, only now, they made your heart race with fear.
âIâve become the real me Y/N, and youâre going to love me, whether you want to or not.â

Foreign Feelings | Suguru Niragi
{AIB Masterlist}
Summary:Â The Beach to many people was seen as a beacon of hope; somewhere to be yourself; a place to begin a new life. But even with that there in his grasp, Niragi saw all of it and more in a certain boy. And ultimately, his own feelings frightened him.
Warning(s): language, violence, blood, (slight?) homophobia, cleaning wounds, sexual references, threatening, really really angsty, Niragi being a simp for Y/N

You didnât think it would turn out this bad. The sheer abandonment you felt within yourself felt a bit too strong to be fair. You couldnât have appeared that dead to the others in your team, could have you? You thought they may have had at least the decency to fit you in the backseat of the car to make sure you got back to The Beach safe, but apparently, even that was too unrealistic of a wish.
Very predictable, but even so, it was hard to believe that the members of The Beach would abandon one of their own so carelessly. The sight of the blinding car tail lights travelling further and further from your distorted vision created more disappointment than worry, or sadness even.
And now, you trudged slowly back to The Beach by yourself, limping along the rugged pathways and stepping blindly in the darkness. The short moment of unconsciousness you plummeted into earlier seemed to have held you under its waves for a long while, enough for the lights of neighbouring games to go out as the moon reached higher. You held no sense of direction, only travelling based on the familiar buildings you had caught a glimpse of on the way to the game earlier.
The blood that seeped into the fabric of your pants on your upper thigh created a mat of clinging limbs. The cotton that rubbed against your wound made your eyes squint and your voice crack in pain. Not believing taking your time in examining it would help, you pushed forward, looking forward to arriving back to the hellish Beach and finding some kind of medkit that would help with your injury.
Despite the situation in the moment and the warped eyesight that was creeping into your mind, you decided that the tranquillity of empty Tokyo was deemed worth the suffering pain. At least, for the first time in what seemed like forever, you had received peace.
As the garish sight of The Beach finally entered your view over the peaking tops of buildings, you stopped in your tracks and wiped the sweat forming in your palms on your dirtied shirt. It was ironically... a very gorgeous landmark. The lights that illuminated the trees and water miles out from the hotel brought at least some kind of light into the Borderland.
A beacon of hope, or so you wished to say it was. Thatâs what Hatter wanted, but you didnât think it necessarily turned out that way.
It wasnât his fault. Even in a selfish and unpredictable world that was the Borderlands, Hatter did what everyone else was doing; looking out for number one.
And if he saw The Beach as some sort of comfort, good for him. Everyone needs someone or something to keep them going. If they didnât, what would be the point in staying alive longer?
You could ask yourself that every day. Even the few moments prior when you laid head down on the concrete, leg seeping blood and mind seeping sanity, you questioned really if it was worth standing up and walking back to The Beach. There wasnât anything there that necessarily benefitted you. And even so, the rocks that dug into your back was the closest resemblance to a loving embrace that you had received in months.
âFuck,â you breathed out. The hot air spilling from your mouth shifted into steam, clouding the air in front of you. âI wonder if they even notice Iâm not there.â
It wouldnât be a surprise, to you at least. But without your knowledge, a long black-haired man stood at the entrance of the lobby watching intensely for even the small glimpse of a late car driving into the car park through the glass doors. His foot tapped impatiently on the ground and his eyes darted through the night, having a sense of hope that you had perhaps survived and were making your way home.
You had no knowledge of this manâs strange growing affection. He certainly wasnât the first thing on your mind when you slowly dragged your exhausted body along the path towards The Beach. But regardless, the idea of you being in his arms, safe and sound, breathing and well, would not escape his mind no matter how many times he attempted to shake it from his damaged and desperate head.
Your relationship wasnât even that close. It was more of a rivalry than a relationship but even so, he did happen to have trouble getting on peopleâs good sides. Why did he think so highly of you and worry so much with such negative interactions youâve had?
Itâs only an appreciation, a longing for friendship, or perhaps a desire thatâs prominent in a time of loneliness. Thatâs what he wished to believe, but he knew deep down, this obsession was much more than that.
He knew everything. It was plainly laid out in front of him, on a silver platter and gold forks. But the idea of love was something completely foreign to the second-in-command, especially with another man.
And Niragi wasnât ready for that conversation yet.

âHow did you manage to scratch this up so bad?â
Annâs motherly voice tsked at the poor condition your leg was in. You sat back in the chair you were perched upon, looking down at Ann who was examining your wound closely as you shrugged your shoulders in uncertainty.
âHow should I know? Everything happened in a flash. Next thing I knew I was laying in the middle of the street with a puddle of blood around me.â
You caught a glimpse of Annâs eyes rolling at your lack of recollection. In the way that she harshly manhandled your leg with next to no regard for your pain, you could easily point out her obvious annoyance.
You squinted at her behaviour, feeling guilty for coming to her at such early hours of the morning. With everyone returned from the games and turning back to their usual drunken behaviour out in the party area around the pool on the ground floor, you suspected that Ann wanted nothing more than to relax and do her own research on the corpses she had been brought back. Looking after a gash on a low-numberâs leg was probably the last thing she wanted to do that morning.
âAlright. This may hurt, but weâre running low on numbing materials so I need you to deal with it,â she pressed as she brought a needle towards the wound. You nodded and lifted the collar of your shirt into your mouth so you could stop yourself from screaming if you had to.
The pain was unbearable. The sharp point of the needle weaved through your bloodied and sensitive skin harshly, leaving no room for a break from the burning sensation. Ann could tell you were holding back your complaints, knowing you well. She pressed her hand onto the wound slightly, applying pressure to soothe the burning.
âAlmost done,â she muttered out with a concentrated expression on her face. You nodded with your eyes squeezed shut, not wanting to look at her work on your injury. It would do nothing but bring more strain upon your already throbbing headache.
Within a few more long minutes, you let out a heavy breath you werenât even aware you were holding when Ann announced she was finished. She leant away from your wound and pressed a clean towel onto it, cleaning up any excess blood that had seeped past your skin while she stitched it up.
âThanks, Ann. Sorry for being a pain,â you apologized as you examined your wound. She had done well like always. Your injury felt and appeared cleaner, and you no longer held the anxiety of access blood loss or infection.Â
She nodded with her usual stoic expression and picked up her tools before dumping them into the nearby sink. Your blood that remained on the materials mixed with the mess, looking almost like a crime scene.
âI canât stop you from having your fun of course, but I suggest you get back to your room and rest that leg before your next game,â Ann spoke up as you dropped to the floor from your seat upon her medical table. âYou wouldnât want to not be able to run and have to participate in a spades game.â
You nodded at her words as she glanced towards you and gestured towards your leg. Upon landing on the ground and placing weight on it, searing pain shot up through your leg and into your entire torso. But, knowing Ann, you didnât wish to annoy her with your complaints any longer, so you swallowed in the pained sob that attempted to force itself up to your sore throat.
âOkay,â you said whilst holding up a thumbs up.
No, it was not okay. You obviously didnât expect the pain to leave completely, but you at least expected to be able to walk without obvious heavy limping.
You took towards the metal door to the lobby, using the wall as your leverage to hide your struggle from Ann. âItâs fine. Iâll just make my way to my room and rest for the night. Hopefully it isnât too bad in the morning,â you thought to yourself.
With your exhausted hand and numb arm muscles, you twisted the doorknob and pushed yourself through. You used the door to put your weight on as you scanned the lobby quickly. From your position, you could see the balcony Hatter stood up on to do his âencouragingâ speeches and some of the ground floors with its deserted and empty couches.
It was strange to see absolutely no one in the halls or lobby. Usually, there was the occasional dazed drunk, or a couple swapping spit, but this night seemed awfully tranquil.
You didnât think much of it as you trudged through the centre of the lobby. Your footsteps echoed through the room, bouncing off walls and hitting your ears. But as you neared the staircase on the opposite side of the lobby from the medical room, you noticed your echoed movements turned much heavier and louder. It took you completely freezing to realise it wasnât you making the noise.
âOi!â a masculine voice yelled out, making you turn your head to see who was calling. Your eyes widened when you saw the familiar long-haired second-in-command. His confident stride remained the same that you had always seen it. His sniper was hung loosely over his right shoulder as he made his way towards you, face conveying an unreadable expression. He almost appeared... relieved?
âWhen did you sneak in? I didnât see you come back with any of the other cars,â he asked as he continued approaching you.
Having not had a very friendly relationship with Niragi, you felt belittled by his presence alone. His aura caused a deep annoyance within you to surface without fail every time you saw him. It wasnât particularly hatred or disgust that he brought you, but more frustration. He always seems to want your undivided attention somehow, and a lot of the time he would do stupid things just to get it. You somewhat found it pathetic, but you would never say it to his face as you knew his sensitive ego wouldnât handle it.
âI... I uhh...â you stuttered out, not knowing what to say exactly. How could you explain him not seeing you? You walked right through the front doors of the hotel. Perhaps he had gotten sidetracked during the moment that you had arrived and happened to not see you enter.
âHuh? Lost your tongue L/N? Answer me!â Niragi came close to your figure and sprung his hand out to grip your upper bicep. His tough palm felt hot on your trembling skin and you felt the small stabs of pain from his fingernails digging into your flesh. You didnât move but only breathed shallowly and nervously due to the now almost non-existent distance between you and Niragiâs faces.
His eyes locked onto yours and for a short second, you noticed how purely dark his were. You saw the clear reflection of your dazzled face in his irises and the long feminine eyelashes that decorated them. Paired with his sienna skin tone and the way his silver piercings stand out from it, you thought to yourself how much of a shame that a beautiful face was wasted on a bad personality.
âI was just leaving,â you said through a clenched, aching jaw. âHow about you? What were you doing up so late?â you spat back in retaliation to his disrespect.
You werenât ever too sure what label you would put on your and Niragiâs relationship. You were convinced that the only reason he picks on you is because of the first day when you were brought to The Beach, you spat in his face when he got a bit too close to your bruised and bloodied frame in which was tied in a chair in front of the executives. He couldnât believe the audacity and froze for a short second before cracking the butt of his rifle across your cheekbone, only making you groan and roll your eyes in pain.
The smirk you gave him after copping the hit was one that haunted his head for days after the incident. The slight shine of white teeth behind the paint of crimson blood and the curl of your lips. It really didnât take much of you just being your cocky and hot-headed self to make the air leave Niragiâs lungs. The sudden feeling embarrassed him, even more so than having the drip of your spit running along his eyelid and into his wide eyes.
Perhaps it was your lack of fear of him that drew him to you or the idea that he could perhaps have you as a potential ally, even if you didnât get the best first impression of each other.
God, Niragi wishes it was something as simple as that. But the somersaults that his stomach does and the slight tremble in his hands that occur when he puts on his façade to intimidate you says otherwise. Why was it so different with you? Why did he feel so drawn to you?
He knew why, but he didnât want to acknowledge it, especially in a place like The Beach with the reputation he has amongst the players there. No one particularly imagined him with another man considering the awful history he has with a lot of women in the hotel.
Snapping back to the present, he gripped your arm tighter again as he realised he had let loose slightly during his staring match with you.
âBrave of you to be so interested in my affairs,â Niragi snarled quietly. âI suggest you keep your worries about yourself.â
You turned so your body faced him fully and pulled his rough arm off yours by his wrist. He let go surprisingly easily. âTake your own advice, Niragi. Wouldnât Aguni be waiting to get his dick sucked by you at this time of night?â You glanced at your wrist to mimic checking the time. âWhy are you so concerned about me?â you teased with a slight smile toying on your lips.
The black-haired man stayed dead quiet while giving you a bored stare. âHow many times have you made that same joke now? Twenty times? Thirty times? Come up with something else to piss me off with. I might get bored of torturing you otherwise,â Niragi smirked as he placed his rifle on the ground, leaning against his leg. He crossed his arms and stood tall.
âOh so you do enjoy spending time with me?â you accentuated and leant towards the second-in-command. He frowned at your claim and shook his head in defiance. âShut up. Youâre looking for a quick bullet in your head with your attitude.â
âIf you actually hated me as much as you claim to, that would have already happened.â
âMaybe that stupid attitude of yours is entertaining in a way.â
âI donât see anyone else saying that.â
Niragi kept his gaze locked onto you, eyes impatient and dark with his long fingers tapping on the checked fabric of his crossed arms. You scanned his strained face in which was slightly dark due to the shadows of the lobby lights. Just before he sighed loudly and turned away from you to make his way back to the hallways on the bottom floor, you swore you saw slight drips of stress sweat on his temple.
âJust go to fucking bed. I canât deal with this right now. Itâs too late,â Niragi groaned as he walked away.
You opened your mouth in surprise at his confidence. âYouâre the one that started it you prick!â
____________________________
Your leg had healed especially well over the next few days. The only pain that was left was the burning sensation you would have to endure when taking a hot shower, but other than that, all other inconveniences had cleared themselves up.
For those few days in which you could spend time by yourself due to earning yourself some visa days after the horrid game, you mainly stayed at the hotel and searched for some groups of people to stick with for the next few weeks or so. You were still relatively new to The Beach (you only arrived a few weeks ago) and you knew your last team was obviously not an option anymore, considering they left you for dead in the middle of Tokyo.
You had taken refuge with two mysterious people who seemed to keep out of the way of others, which honestly was your best bet. Being too involved with other groups usually led to more trouble than you were really hoping for.
The two individuals were called Chishiya and Kuina. They had been stationed at The Beach for a while and conveyed a great deal of kindness towards you, so you thought sticking with them for a while would perhaps bring some kind of benefit to you.
Although, they did manage to keep your guard up. With Chishiyaâs playful yet sly smile and Kuinaâs constant discussion of overthrowing Hatter and the militants, you were slightly unnerved by their actions. But they were the best you could do for that moment. If worst came to worst, you could always search for another team or person to take you in.Â
Niragi always seemed quite eager to have you close to him considering how often he randomly approached you and pushed you around. You were sure if you were to become truly that desperate for an alliance of some kind, you could depend on him for a short time.
Your few relaxing days didnât last long. Without the need to hunt for food or for a safe place to sleep, you didnât particularly have much else to do except get drunk or sleep in your hotel room. Chishiya and Kuina liked to sneak around often and cause some trouble. You werenât entirely against doing so, but youâd rather keep yourself alive for as long as you could. And considering the strict punishments put against traitors, you didnât become very involved in their affairs.
It came to the time to replenish your visa. You waited until your last night available so you had time to completely recover from your injury. You stood close to the centre of the lobby between Kuina and Chishiya as Hatter announced the groups and their locations for the night. Despite your numbers being quite drawn apart from one another and being placed in different groups, Chishiya insisted that you came with him and Kuina. You saw it as a benefit, seeing someone so happy to have you side with them.
âWe have more of a chance to survive when thereâs more of us,â Chishiya explained as the three of you strutted out the front hotel doors and towards the cars in the parking lot. âNot many people have a team of two or more when going to games together, so weâll have the advantage.â
You nodded at his words and glanced towards Kuina to see her reaction. Only, she didnât speak and kept her head low, staring at the concrete ground. Her dreadlocks hid her expression and you frowned at her quietness. Over the few days you had known her, you had gathered that she was a very chatty person. It was unusual, to see her so hesitant.
You shook it off and took it as she wasnât feeling well, or that she was nervous. You smiled softly and reached a hand out to place it on her shoulder. Kuina turned her head towards you at your kind gesture.Â
âWeâll be fine. Weâve all done this many times before. Whatâs one more game?â you said, attempting to cheer her up.
Only she didnât respond and only kept eye contact with you. Her eyes were sad almost, making you feel bad as you may have said something wrong.
As you moved towards the car, you opened the rusted door of the passenger seat and were about to clamber in before a tight hand gripped onto your upper arm suddenly.
âHey! Whatâs your-â you were cut off when you made eye contact with none other than Niragi. He held an outraged expression, eyebrows furrowed and forehead stressed as he pulled on your arm to get you away from the car.
âThis isnât your group, and donât act like you donât know that,â he almost spat into your face. Without the obvious annoyance surging through your blood during the moment, you would have noticed the very close distance between you too. Your lips were only a few inches apart and Niragiâs leg was hooked behind yours to make sure you didnât get into the car. But at that moment, it was anything but romantic.
âFuck off Niragi. Iâm going with them,â you rebutted assuredly as you ripped your arm from his painful grip. âYou have a serious problem with grabbing people. Get it fixed.â
As you turned away to try and climb into the car, you expected him to eventually give up and mind his own business. Most of your interactions went like that on most days, but apparently, Niragi wasnât having it that day.
The second-in-command reached down and gripped a ball of your shirt fabric into his fist before yanking you back out of the car towards him by your back. You choked briefly from the unexpected force but fell back easily before regaining your balance by holding the roof of the car and turning to face Niragi with a stunned expression.
âWhat the fuck is your issue?!â you complained loudly as you shoved him by his chest backwards.
Niragi kept his firm expression. âYouâre coming with me. Youâre with me tonight.â
He moved his grip from the back of your shirt to your collar, pulling harshly towards what you guessed was his groupâs car while you groaned at his rough manhandling.
Kuina stepped out of the car and watched as you were dragged away, frown on her face as she chewed harder on her makeshift cigarette. She glanced to the other side of the car and saw Chishiya watching with a bored expression.
âWhat do you think thatâs about?â she asked, trying to hear Chishiyaâs insight. The blonde shook his head disapprovingly and pulled his hoodie over his hair before moving to climb back into the car seat.
âNiragi just has a small crush. Nothing too serious. But he did just take our test dummy,â Chishiya complained and ran a hand over his face tiredly. âItâs fine though. Weâll find someone else who doesnât have a guard dog.â
Kuina nodded before climbing into the backseat with Chishiya. She wouldnât admit it to him, but she was relieved Niragi dragged you away. Knowing Chishiya, he wouldnât have hesitated to push you in front of a trap to see if it was deadly. He had admitted it to her himself, which was why she was quite anxious earlier.
Niragi didnât quit his maltreatment until you were pushed into the back seat of the vehicle. He even dared to kick your legs into the car after shoving your torso in before slamming the door heavily on you.
âFucking hell,â you sighed out and straightened yourself out. âDesperate much.â
The car held other militants, whom of which you did not recognize well. The only militant you were familiar with was Aguni, and he didnât appear to be there.
âDrive,â you heard Niragi demand towards the driver as he climbed into the passenger seat. You watched as he tucked his rifle near his legs and leant back against the car seat before letting out a heavy sigh.
You didnât know quite what to say after his random aggressive behaviour towards you. You thought it was best to stay quiet in the back seat of the car and wait for what kind of plan was ahead of you when you arrived at the game.
Who knows? Perhaps Niragi was going to use you as a shield, or a test dummy. But you couldnât be so sure about that.

âPairs?â
You stared down at the rules planted across the bright screen. With the darkness of the registration room dancing along the walls, the phone brought comfort with its blinding light, but only for a short while.
âTravel in pairs to search for the items listed below on your mobiles. Teams who have failed to achieve their items and exit the building after 30 minutes will be trapped, and the bomb will be set off to eliminate them.â
âShopping Listâ was the name of the game. It was set in a large shopping mall with the registration room being the elevator room at the bottom of the centre. To start the game, teams were to clamber into a separate elevator each and be taken to different floors in order to begin their scavenger hunt.
Without your knowledge, Niragi felt glad about the âpairsâ rule. He felt stupid, but the smirk that was painted across his face could not be helped.
âTeam No 1: Player 1000167 and Player 1000387. Takayama Shigeru and Honda Rika.â
A young militant man and woman glanced towards each other before nodding. They made their way towards an elevator and stood before it to wait for the game to start.
âTeam No 2: Player 1000089 and Player 1000432. Suguru Niragi and L/N Y/N.â
Just your luck. But if you were being honest, it could have been worse. At least you werenât required to kill each other.
As you made your way towards Niragi and you stood near an elevator, the voice read out the two other teams that accompanied you to your game. Some came in a separate car, so you were not expecting to have so many people at the one game.
Once everyone was positioned, the elevatorâs opened to reveal and small sign plastered onto the wall inside. ăăčăżăŒăă: Start.
You glanced towards the man beside you. In all his glory, with his black glossy hair and slightly parted pink lips, he strutted forward into the elevator without even an eye movement in your direction.
When he noticed you hadnât moved, he turned slowly and looked over his shoulder that wasnât resting a rifle. âWhatâs wrong? Afraid Iâll hurt you?â he pushed your buttons, making you snap out of your daze.
âShut the fuck up,â you groaned as you moved forward, shoving your shoulder into his aggressively in the process. âGo choke on a bullet.â
Niragi chuckled at your attempt at an insult. He felt in power. Usually, you were the one to make him flustered and unnerved, but obviously, that show he put on back at the hotel to get you with his team seemed to have thrown you off.
The elevator doors closed and you were met with silence within the small space. You kept your eyes forward, staring at your dead reflection in the metal of the elevator doors. Once or twice, you glanced at Niragiâs reflection. Your eyes scanned his body, his face, his movements. He shuffled around nervously a lot, you noticed.Â
You got so caught up in admiring Niragi that you didnât notice how quick the minute went by, and soon enough the doors opened up to reveal a shopping mall floor. You guys had appeared to be taken to the top floor as the ceiling was very close and the railing was high.
As you both stepped out and scanned the area, the elevator doors closed and lights began to turn on throughout the shops along the floor. All the doors to the stores were closed, and you guessed the items you were searching for were amongst the very many products that were throughout the shopping centre.
âFucking hell,â you heard Niragi breathe out as he looked up towards the ceiling. You followed his gaze and your eyes widened at the sight above you.
Directly above your figures, you caught sight of a giant pile of dynamite plastered to the ceiling. In the centre was a large digital clock that read â30:00âČ.
âWeâll be the first dead,â you announced as you glanced at Niragi. âEven if a quarter of that goes off, itâll reach us, or at least the debris around us.â
He nodded and swallowed thickly before standing tall beginning to make his way past you to the first shop. âItâs best we check everywhere for those items in the phone. You never know what tricks they could play. They could put a clothing item in a grocery store for all we know.â
âGame Startâ
You flinched slightly as the large doors to all the shops began to snap open, making it possible to go inside.
âAlright, letâs go,â you said after taking a quick glance at the clock amongst the dynamite, now slowly ticking down towards zero.
____________________________________
With the small diamond ring in your palm and five minutes left on the clock, you let out a deep huff and fell back into the chair against the wall. You looked at your phone to see the final item crossed off, feeling a great weight lift from your body. Who knew shopping would be so stressful, even when you had a list.
âTeam No 2: Suguru Niragi and L/N Y/N... Game Clearâ
âNow all we have to do is make our way back to the registration area,â Niragi spoke up as he watched you rest on your seat with his rifle slung over his shoulder. You nodded at his statement and closed your eyes in bliss. Another game is done, now you could relax at least for a few days.
âYou seem awfully comfortable there,â Niragi spoke up, making you open your eyes only to see him standing right next to your resting form now. You jumped slightly at his close proximity and glanced up at him.
âCome on, we have to go. The game isnât finished yet,â he insisted and kicked your leg slightly to get you to move. You groaned in annoyance and faced away from him in the chair, resting your head on the back.
âGod, can I rest for five minutes. Weâve been running around on our feet for ages,â you complained.
Niragi rolled his eyes at your behaviour. âIf you havenât noticed, if you stay here for five minutes, this shop is going to end up at the bottom of the mall with us in it.â
Niragi squatted on his heels so he was at level with you. You made eye contact and saw his looking genuine for the first time. His sudden hard, black pits were gone and were replaced with these much more... puppy eyes almost. You didnât know how else to interpret it.
You frowned and sat up straight while keeping eye contact with Niragi. âWhatâs going on?â you asked, scanning his body up and down.
â...huh?â Niragi responded with his eyebrows crooked in confusion. He stood up and stared down at you. âWhatâs wrong?â
His aura was wrong. Why did he seem so... off? He kept a soft expression on his face as he scanned your features. Furthermore, he had removed the tie in his hair, now allowing it to breathe and shape his face. He looked like a different person. Much more inviting.
âWhat? You have a staring problem?â he mumbled as he turned around and away from you. Without your knowledge, it was merely to hide the blood rushing to his face from watching your eyes run all over his body like they just had. He slightly smacked his face with his palms, mumbling to himself to cut it out.
You scoffed at him. âNever-mind. Youâre back.â
The silence grew awkward between you too suddenly. You fiddled with the small ring in your hand, noticing how the jewel manages to catch the moonlightâs reflection, even through all the windows and the brightness of the lights. You swore you could see yourself in that diamond alone.
âHey,â you spoke up as a random thought came to your mind about what happened earlier. Niragi glanced over his shoulder at you.
âWhat the fuck was with that whole act earlier?â you asked curiously. âWhat difference did me coming with you tonight make?â
Oh how badly Niragi wanted to say âYou would be dead and I canât have that.â The number of times heâs fantasized about finally admitting his growing feelings for you, but he couldnât. Not there.
Even so, he wasnât even entirely sure if what he felt was love. For all he knew, he had never felt it.
âI needed more people. As simple as that,â Niragi answered in a monotone voice. He fiddled with the collar of his buttoned-up shirt nervously, which you managed to pick up on.
âYou could have picked anyone,â you continued pressing as you realised your question made Niragi have a slight reaction. âIâm sure there would have been many other players who were willing to go-â
âYou were the first person I saw alright? Just drop it.â
You fell silent at his sudden harsh tone. Not wanting to anger him further. He walked over to the corner of the room and took a seat on the marble floor, crossing his legs beneath him and laying his rifle on his lap. After a minute of silence, the tension in the room was too much for you to bare.
âDid you want me to stay with you?â
The question created an even stronger tension to rise as Niragi completely froze from fiddling with his rifle. He slowly brought his eyes to yours, a disgusted scowl on his face.
âWhat? No,â he snarled and went back to cleaning his weapon. âWhat kind of fucking stupid question is that?â
You tried to hide your smirk. His defensiveness, it was almost a certain yes.
Niragi felt his heartbeat in his hands. He wasnât even sure what he was doing anymore, touching random parts of his rifle to make it seem like he wasnât interested. He was thankful to himself for taking his hair out, as he now was able to hide his sweat and blush easier behind the black locks.
Although, he felt himself panic when he heard your footsteps approaching him. Heavy boots hitting the marble ground and echoing in his mind. He saw in the corner of his eye the toes of your shoes, making him almost forget to breathe. You were so close to him.
You squatted down to Niragiâs level on the ground and brought a soft hand to the top of his head, threading your fingers through the black glossy hair.
Niragi had frozen, eyes widened and muscles tensed, having no idea what to do. Does he lash out? Does he let it happen? Part of him wanted to punch you out, tackle you to the ground and beat you until youâre screaming for making him feel such a way. But the other part that he wasnât so used to wished to push himself into your arms, tuck his face into your neck and breath deeply the natural scent of you that he so wished he could wake up to every morning.
He couldnât decide, but soon enough you had brought a hand to his soft cheek and pushed it so he was looking up at your face. His black eyes were big, almost innocent even, staring up at you with such uncertainty and fear.
You chuckled at the dazzled expression of the militant before moving your hand on his head to his other cheek, cupping his face and bringing him closer to yours.
âItâs okay Niragi. You donât have to hide anything from me,â you whispered in a comforting tone. With the lack of response from the second-in-command and only a blank stare, you took it as a sign of consent, allowing yourself to move forward to press your lips against his pouted ones.
Niragiâs lips felt soft and heated. You moved yours against his slowly, trying to be as gentle as you could. Even though he was such a scary and powerful man, at that moment, you felt like he could shatter like glass if you did one thing wrong.
He tasted like salt on your tongue, from gathered sweat and tears that fell down his face. He felt like home, something you hadnât felt in a long time. He brought the same comfort that of the freshness of a deadly storm, the warmth of an unstoppable forest fire, the soft fur of an aggressive dog.
In such bad personalities, in such bad people, there is some good. In Niragi, it was hidden greatly below the layers of anger, trauma, frustration, egoism. And whether anyone else believed it was worth finding did not matter to you at that moment, because you had found that it was.
Only, that goodness within him didnât show itself for long before retreating into the depths of darkness within him.
Your head snapped to the side as a searing pain painted itself along your temple. You felt your eye seep hot blood and your mouth seep groans. Slowly, you moved your eyes back to Niragi, only to see the barrel of his rifle held in front of your face, directly between your eyes. You froze, not knowing whether he would shoot or not.
âFucking disgusting pervert,â he choked out as he wiped his mouth. He stood quickly with his weapon, refusing to make eye contact with you and rushed out of the store in the direction of the elevator. You watched as he stumbled slightly, almost tripping over his own feet multiple times.
When he was too far to see anymore, you fell back onto your butt and let out a frustrated groan while rubbing your face in stress. How could have you been so stupid?
As tears began to slowly escape your eyes, you heard a quiet *ding* of your game mobile going off.
âTwo minutes remaining.â
You felt your blood quicken and you struggled to stand up. With tears blurring your vision and body shaking in pain from the punch in the temple Niragi gave you, you quickly picked up the phone from the floor and made your way towards the elevator. You were sure Niragi would have been gone by the time you got there.

Niragi stumbled through the open doors of the elevator, hair tied back up but head held low. He lifted his gaze and locked eyes with Shigeru, one of the male militants he works with. Rika was leaning against the wall nearby.
âWhat happened to you? You look very flushed,â Shigeru asked, laughing tauntingly.
Niragi, of course, didnât answer. He pushed past the snarky male and walked outside, completely dead to the calls Shigeru was emitting for him.
He needed some sleep. Maybe then he could wake up and everything would have sorted itself out.
âCome on,â he called out to Shigeru and Rika. âLetâs go.â
Before walking out the doors of the shopping mall, Rika glanced back to the elevators. âWhat about the new guy?â she questioned, turning back to Niragi.
Niragi waved a hand over his shoulder in dismissal. âHe offed himself. Got ahold of my rifle and gave himself a quick death,â he lied. While doing so, he quickly had to wipe a leftover tear as he opened the car door.
Rika shrugged her shoulders and made her way over to the car, excited to go back to the hotel and get some rest.
Niragi was excited too, not to get some rest, but to get as far away from you as possible.
Maybe he wasnât cut out for love. Especially since his first reaction to his crush kissing him was to shove a gun into their face.
He thought he could do it somehow, but your affection back at him is what scared him off. Was it meant to feel that good? Is what he felt when you held his face like a flower and pressed your pillow-like lips against his love? He wouldnât know for now, and nor does he think would ever know. Because he just fucked up the only chance he would ever have from being accepted by someone.
As someone who kills for validation, what would he know about love?

His boots were heavy on his feet as Niragi climbed the stairs to the âratsâ hotel room. Thatâs what he liked to call Chishiya, the blondie of The Beach who brings a lot of trouble for how short he is. He was like a rat in a way. Small, annoying, smart and scatters around your feet for scraps.
He needed to approach him about something he had overheard before leaving for the game.
Niragi arrived at Chishiyaâs door and knocked on it relatively calmly. âChishiya, open up,â he requested.
Although, his patience didnât last long.
âChishiya!â he yelled the second time, pounding his fist harder on the wood, making the doorframe shake. âOpen the fucking door!â
His face felt hot and his hands were shaking in pure anger. Before climbing the many tiring flights of stairs to Chishiyaâs room, Niragi had discarded his usual weapon at the militantâs headquarters. He knew if he had brought it, someone would have died.
âCHISHIYA!!â he screamed a final time, this time kicking the door in full force.
âWhatâs wrong?â he heard a voice call down the hall. Niragi snapped his gaze from the door to the calm voice, immediately seeing red from the sight of him.
Chishiya stood in all his glory, white hoodie with board shorts and flip-flops, a smug smile etched onto his face permanently.Â
âIf youâre here to kill me, can we do it outside at least so I donât leave a mess on the carpet,â Chishiya requests in a snarky tone. Niragi didnât answer but only strode towards him in quick, long steps.
âUpset you didnât get your little shield? Did you manage okay without him?â Niragi taunted as he walked closer. Chishiya began back pacing, trying to widen the gap between him and the taller militant.
âItâs a shame you stole him away. I was starting to really like him,â Chishiya pressed as he continued moving backwards. The blondie gripped the small makeshift knife in his hoodie pocket, being ready to use it if it became necessary.
âLike shit you were. You were going to kill him,â Niragi accused as he pointed a finger towards the blond.
Chishiya chuckled and placed a hand on his heart to act like he was offended by Niragiâs claim. âIf it came to it, yes. But not right away! I really liked Y/N, but obviously not as much as you do.â
Niragi froze in his tracks at Chishiyaâs words. â...you know about that?â
âOh so it is true!â he confirmed and his eyes widened in surprise. âI was only going off what I had suspected, but you just told me straight up. I should have just asked you.â
Niragi clenched his fists in frustration at the taunting of Chishiya. Silence overcame them as they only watched each other, waiting for the other to do something.
Niragi was the first to move as he suddenly sprinted forward towards Chishiya. Chishiya saw it coming and moved quickly while slightly cursing in fear. He took off in the opposite direction down the hall to escape Niragi, but Niragi had longer legs and an obvious size advantage.
He caught up to the Cheshire quickly and gripped him by the hood of his hoodie, yanking him backwards and laying his first punch straight on his nose. Chishiya cried out in pain and dropped himself to the floor in an attempt to crawl away, but Niragi brought his heavy boot down onto his upper back to hold him down.
Chishiya groaned at the weight put on him, feeling his ribs slowly crushing in his chest and his lungs starting to suffocate.
Niragi didnât want to kill Chishiya. Well... he did, but he knew he couldnât.
He leant down close to the younger man and grabbed a fistful of his white hair before pulling his head back. Chishiya hissed and struggled further underneath his weight.
âIf you ever fucking think about touching Y/N, or even going near him again... I wonât hesitate to bite your throat out myself,â Niragi threatened. The best part was, Chishiya believed him. In most cases, Niragi would be bluffing and would not go through with his threats, but something about this one made Chishiya feel uneasy.
âOkay... Iâm sorry,â Chishiya begged underneath Niragi, still groaning in pain from the burning in his chest.
Niragi let go of Chishiya and watched him struggled to escape from beneath him like a rat before he disappeared down the hall and into his room.

It was a repeat of last time. Exactly the same. Only this time, the emotional pain hurt much worse.
There you were, dragging yourself into the ghostly Beach late once again. Injured, tired and having just had to walk all the way back yourself due to being abandoned.
You wanted to find Niragi, you really did, but it was not the time for it.
You trudged towards the steps to make your way to your room and have a well-needed rest. You thought youâd go see Ann some other time the next day as you werenât exactly in the best mood to deal with her motherly behaviour.
The stairs were taller and bigger than usual as you slowly made your way up them. You saw a few familiar faces on the way, such as Usagi, whose kind heart offered you some help which you declined. You didnât wish to trouble anyone any further.
Your door. The hotel door that you wished so badly to be the front door of your home. You put your bloodied hand on the doorknob and turned while closing your eyes. When you opened, you saw the bare nothingness of your hotel room, just as always.
Every single time. When will you ever open to find your room back at home? Your family happily welcoming you in with happy hugs and loving kisses? Or even your pet would be enough, and their unconditional love that soothed you every day.
It truly did not exist here, and that day out of all days proved it to you.
âAt least my bed is comfy,â you sobbed slightly as you sat down on your duvet after having a quick shower. You wore a loose t-shirt and shorts made from soft material, wanting to be comfortable for bed. You would need it after the day youâve had.
You laid your heavy head down, closing your eyes and breathing in the strong smell of dried blood and sweat that has cemented itself into your bed and your room. There was never really any time to do laundry around here.
It wasnât comforting, no matter how much you wished or pretended it to be. Tears fell from your face as you ran your palm along the bedsheets, trying to find a warm hug beneath their cold exterior. A hug. Thatâs all you could ask for during that moment.
You must have fallen asleep much quicker than you expected, as you failed to hear the door to your hotel room creak open. You failed to hear the removal of boots, the patter of slight heavy feet and the stripping of clothing.
But you did notice the dip on the mattress when Niragi tucked himself in beside you, causing you to open your eyes. Hair untied, no buttoned-shirt, no blood staining his gorgeous skin and no rifle hanging on his shoulder. He was him, his very much real, domestic self. The self he keeps behind closed doors, or the self he keeps beneath his cold exterior.
âNiragi...â you breathed out, half asleep. You reached out to him, tears suddenly clouding your vision and making him appear blurred. The militant laced his fingers with yours and pulled your body into his, allowing himself to tuck his face into your neck to breathe in your natural and earthy smell, just how he had hoped it to be.
âIâm sorry,â he choked out. He didnât realise he was crying until he opened his mouth to speak, but he didnât care at that point.
âI promise you, I wanted to kiss back, I really did. I was just...â he trailed off, snaking his arms around your torso and bringing you closer into his bare, warm chest.
âScared,â you finished for him. You pulled your face back to look at his, the gorgeous face that you have wanted to have pressed up against your own for so long. Despite the atrocities that leave it, nothing had ever been so beautiful to you.
Niragi blinked and broke eye contact nervously. He looked down towards your intertwined hands, fiddling with your fingers.
âI donât know if Iâll figure this out,â he started, obviously struggling to find the right words. âAnd Iâm scared youâll run out of patience for me.â
You listened to his confession. âI donât know if Iâm gay, or bisexual or... pansexual? Is that whatâs it called? Iâm not sure-â
âNiragi.â He made eye contact with you and gave a weak smile. âIt doesnât matter. I donât care what you like or how you want to appear to the rest of the players, but right now, moments like these is what I truly care about.â
The second-in-command laughed nervously before tucking himself back into your neck. âMe too,â he choked out with a shaky breath.
âI love you Y/N, I really do,â he cried while wrapping his arms around you as tightly as he could. âIâm so sorry that I canât show it properly. Iâll try and learn.â
You nodded against him and kissed the bruised skin of his shoulder. âI know you will. I love you too.â
Whether you wished for a happy ending with Niragi or not, it did not matter during that moment. For the warmth of his breath against your skin and the flesh of his lips against yours and the tickling feeling of his loose hair on your face was enough to make you forget about the morning, and the next day, and the next week for at least a little bit.
And thatâs all you needed to love Niragi. Just little moments of bliss that make you return to your deluded mentality that you will both make it out of this world alive and together.
