@billy-the-kitten The Mermaid was plowing through the ocean waves at a good pace, sails billowing in the wind as the crew scurried about to make sure everything was in running order. Foxy was at the wheel, feeling rather on top of the world as he casted commands at his crew.

Meanwhile, below the water, not too far away from the ship, a green-tailed merman with a matching shade of hair was swimming through the water, minding his own business…until, distracted by a passing school of fish, he wound up stuck in a fishing net! Try as he might, he couldn’t get free. What was poor Billy to do?

Captain Foxy notes the rogue fishing net, way out of the way of the legal fishing areas. Although Foxy wasn’t one to care about legalities, he was curious as to why it was so far out. He called to his crew, and Chica used a hook to grab the top of the net, beginning to hoist it.

Once he realized the net was being pulled out of the water, the merman’s worries only worsened. Was he going to be eaten by his human captors? Was he going to be left to dry out on land? Would he ever see his family again?

Chica and some others dragged the net onto the deck. All activity stopped when the merman was seen. Foxy quickly rushed over, and frowned, beginning to cut the net with his knife, “Ahoy?”

“Y-y-you’re not gonna eat me, right?” Billy was too terrified to say anything else.

“We won’t eat ye!” Foxy replied immediately.

“H-how do Ah know you’re tellin’ the truth? You’re a human, after all!” Merfolk were taught from day 1 not to trust humans; they were told they would probably end up dead or eaten if they did. But now, a new thought crossed Billy’s mind: What if those teachings were wrong?

He blinked, “It’d be pretty gross te eat ye in truth. I think that’d be some sort o’ cannibalism. Besides, even if it wasn’t, we still wouldn’t want te eat ye matey.”

The green-haired merman shrugs nonchalantly. “Well, Ah know it sounds gross, but everybody tells me humans eat merfolks, so Ah might as well believe it.”
