just watched this last night. it was highly enjoyable.
19 year old me wanting to be prepared for the cold weather as winter broke out, walking along a cracked pavement, with nothing but suburbia around me on a lonely and windy sunday afternoon walk by myself. it kept me company as i thought about mistakes iād made in the years preceding. there are a few desolate songs on this album- they made me realize that it was ok to feel cold. it kept my feet going, step after step. head bowed against the wind.
Thoughts on The Night Manager
I borrowed the series from the library and watched episodes 1-3 pretty much in the same day, mainly because I was sick + lying on the couch + just wanted something mindless to watch. i have to confess that I didnāt complete the series and I also have to admit that i spoiled it for myself and looked up the plotline online. while i do regret this move a little, i ask: would i have lost interest even if i hadnāt read spoilers? did i read the synopsis because iād already lost interest? weāll never know. just a couple thoughts below.Ā
MEH: I found the character of Jonathan Pine is incredibly bland. Remember that scene from The O.C. where Miranda meets Ryan? Miranda goes, who are you? And Ryanās response is: whoever you want me to be. Jonathan Pine just feels like this blank slate for the audience and the other characters to project their desires upon. You see things coming from a mile away, e.g. character A wants to sleep with Jonathan, and youāre kind of hoping that heāll surprise you and do something unexpected like say something thought-provoking or take the situation and do something different, like appeal to her emotions/intellect to gain some sort of insight. Nope, he just falls into bed every beautiful woman who isnāt a minor character. Boo.
YAS: Oliva Colman is fantastic in this role. The character of Angela Burr is probably the most interesting one out of the whole cast, and maybe itās because sheās a woman, sheās not young, sheās not been costumed to be this femme fatale. She gives this monologue that explains why and how she functions, which I have to say just blew my socks off. So thatās a redeeming factor.
Also MEH: Altogether though, I canāt say that Iām not into this show simply because of Hiddleston. The villains are sort of archetypically evil - [spoiler alert] - with a name like Dromgoole... cāmon!Ā
TL;DR: It was meh. Also, I wanted to find a visual to accompany this post but all I could find when I searchedĀ āNight Managerā were Tom Hiddleston lust posts... ugh.
The greatest fantasy of all.
I wonāt deny that Iāll be thinking about this book for a long time to come. I feel like I am so similar to Sam Zabel- carried away by daydreams but only recently convicted that there is a philosophical or ethical side to oneās fantasies. What does it mean to be loving? To oneās self. To those around one. To oneās creations? How can I be more loving to them?

In a nutshell:
Weirdly wonderful + pays it forward, makes you think.
Hi, again.
Just having a crack at yet another Tumblr.
Tried another platform, but it wasnāt sticking- is it me or are blogging platforms a dying medium? The only hits I got were from spambots. I just want people to leave me alone and let me do my own thing... So here it is, again! My shout into the void.
A topic statement for this blog: a more public version of me. An anthology of books and movies and poems Iāve read and loved. Maybe some inspiration posts (ha! Remember those? #moodboards). Maybe some outdated travel posts as well. Or more up to date oneās going forward.
Iāll try to be more verbose, but itās all about a balance... harking back to a time before the limits of Instagram or Twitter. I miss the long form, but words are too excessive at times.
To begin: this non-vulnerable blog has been named after an extremely vulnerable song, and one of my favourites.
