I finally got around to watching The Long Walk movie - wanted one since I read the book in high school so I was stoked going in and I'm gonna make a longer post with my thoughts later but - while the movie is very different from the book - I think it is a PERFECT adaptation in the way it modernized it's war/propaganda/revolution messaging.

Fantastic article!! The guys looking for it were fish researchers who saw it one time, knew instantly it was an undescribed species, and then tried for nearly 20 years to find and document it!

It's a type of ghost pipefish, related to seahorses, and it floats around coral reefs looking like a piece of algae and hunting unsuspecting prey

They are, of course, named after Snuffleupagus from Sesame Street!

Later on it the project, they got citizen science involved, and people across the Pacific started reporting sightings of snuffy fish from all over!

Hooray for science and hooray for S. snuffleupagus !

I don't think it's unreasonable for our public officials to be expected to prove they're alive and not in a coma to be able to retain their office.

If someone were, as a random example, say hospitalized for over two weeks with no explanation, I think that should automatically trigger a special election to replace them.

If you're still able to do your job, then prove it. And if you're not, then you're actively obstructing democracy by not stepping down.

Which is to say, that if a public official were to pass away or into a coma, and their handlers choose to obfuscate that fact, this should be seen as intentionally obstructing democracy.

And there should be, you know, consequences for the people who would do such a thing.

Update: I FOUND WHERE THE BAT CAME FROM

Last night I noticed the kitties gathered around this wall area and when I took my headphones out I heard squeaking and scratching and then I SAW a little claw peek out 😭😭

So I made a temporary barricade 😅

And this morning I went to speak to my leasing office and they're sending a person today to place a plastic barrier over this opening until the guy that does the actual bat pest control comes out tomorrow.

It has to be done in a specific way because bats are a protected species so they need to be removed without harming them.

So while I'm glad this is being taken care of I'm also highkey pissed bc a few months ago I had placed a work order regarding scratching noises in my wall. The guy who checked it out said the animal would probably find its way out 😑😑😑 and I STOPPED hearing the noises so I assumed he was right.

But now these bats are coming from an area that I'm pretty sure is connected to where I initially heard the scratching via like venting/inner wall structures and shit.

And I ALSO learned that these apartments have apparently had problems with bats in the past bc the property manager - who is newer I believe and was a very nice lady who took my concerns seriously - said she reached out to someone to ask what they had done previously.

BUT this tells me that whoever did it last time did not do it properly bc they have returned!! And also why were routine bat checks/prevention not being done in a building KNOWN to have problems with them in the past in a pretty rural area in a state where bat sighting and infestations are not infrequent???? Like wtf man 😭😭😭
