"That guy was an absolute fool who didn't know what he had," Enjin says firmly, his grip tightening just enough to make you feel secure. "His mistakes have nothing to do with your worth. You are stunning. Every single part of you."

He pulls back slightly, looking down at you. With deliberate slowness, he begins to peel the blanket away. Your instinct is to tense up, to cover yourself, but Enjin gently catches your wrists. He doesn't force them down; he just holds them gently, kissing the inside of each of your wrists.

"Trust me," he whispers against your skin. "Just let me show you how much you are valued."

The voice was sharp, cracking slightly with an edge of raw exhaustion. You turned your head slowly, wincing as the movement pulled at the bandages wrapped tightly around your neck and shoulder. Sitting in a chair pulled tightly to the bedside was Riyo.

She looked terrible. Her usual vibrant energy was entirely gone. Her hair was messy, dark circles heavily bruised the skin under her eyes, and her knuckles were white from how hard she was gripping her own knees.

"Riyo..." your voice was barely a raspy whisper, your throat incredibly dry.

She didn't lean in to hug you. She didn't smile with relief. Instead, she stood up, her chair screeching loudly against the linoleum floor as she glared down at you, her eyes flashing with a mix of fury and pure terror.

You had a neat appearance, a relaxed posture, and a gentle smile that conveyed an almost angelic calm amidst the chaos of the pit.

Even your Vital Instrument seemed to reflect a quiet elegance. Jabber, with his chaotic energy, sharp teeth, and obsession with painting everything in blood, was intrigued at first.

He saw you sitting in a corner of the lair, looking like a pristine jewel in a junkyard.

"Hey, hey," Jabber said, hopping over to you, his legs swinging impatiently. "You look pretty decent for being here. Are you sure you didn’t get lost on your way to kindergarten?"

You didn’t even look up from what you were doing. Your smile didn't waver an inch, but your words came out like needles dipped in acid.

"And you look like the failed attempt at an experiment with cheap paint and canine rabies," you said, your voice soft, almost melodious. "Did your mom drop you on your head at birth, or did you just decide to adopt the aesthetic of a run-over hyena for fun?"

Anyone else would have walked away in indignation or tried to start a fight to the death. But Jabber wasn't a normal person. For a mental masochist and chaos lover like him, your attitude wasn't an offense; it was the best entertainment he'd had in weeks. He let out a raucous laugh, clutching his head in his hands.

"Ha! Look at you!" he exclaimed, leaning towards you, completely disregarding personal space. "You look like a helpless kitten, but you've got viper fangs! That's fucking fantastic! Tell me more, go on. What else do you think of me?"

"I think you're a chronic oxygen drain," you replied without blinking, crossing your arms. "A statistical anomaly that natural selection forgot to correct. Does that answer your question, or do I need to use one-syllable words for your mosquito brain to process?"

"You're unbelievable!" Jabber was ecstatic.

The contrast between your pristine appearance and the surgically precise insults you were hurling drove him wild.

"Hey, boss! I'm keeping this one!" he yelled to a corner of the base. "If anyone tries to touch I'll rip them apart myself!"

Determined to outsmart him, you pretended to run out of ammunition, dropping your hands and taking a step back as if surrendering.

"Okay, okay! Time out! My hands are freezing!"

You didn't let him finish. You kicked the snow at your feet directly into his face. As he instinctively raised his arms to block the icy spray, you lunged forward, tackled him around the waist, and sent both of you tumbling into a massive, undisturbed snowbank.

The two of you crashed into the deep powder with a soft thud. For a moment, everything was quiet except for your heavy breathing. You were sitting upright, while Zanka was lying flat on his back, covered from head to toe in white flakes, staring up at the gray sky.

Suddenly, Zanka burst out laughing. It was a loud, unbridled sound that echoed in the cold air. He rolled over, propping himself up on his elbows to look at you, his cheeks flushed bright red from both the cold and the adrenaline.
