"You should be flattered." Tilly laughed, a few strides bringing her to the porch where the other sat. "You've known me long enough to know when you should be flattered or not; and you just happen to be one of the top three on my favorite people list." she winked, taking a seat next to Shelby, no permission given. Though, with the sisters there was no need; there was an unspoken agreement between them, you didn't need to ask. If they had it , so did the other, no questions asked. "I appreciate you being supportive." she sighed, watching as her sister-in-law opened the bottle of Riesling, Tilly's favorite. "I don't feel like I'm ever going to get there." She sighed. She'd been managing two businesses over the last six months, and while she'd do it in a heart beat - just as Jack would've for her - she couldn't deny that it was a lot. "I'm just trying to keep my head above water because I feel like I'm drowning." she exhaled. "The business isn't doing well; we haven't had enough sales to pay the bills in three months now."
“Well, I would hope so. Good to know I’m not chopped liver after investing forty years into this friendship,” Shelby teased, always trying to keep the mood light. Passing Tilly a glass of wine, she gave her free hand a squeeze. “I don’t think there’s any scenario in life in which I would not be supportive of you. You could commit a crime and I would be in your corner,” she pointed out. “But seriously, you’re doing great with everything, and I am so proud of you.” This was, without a doubt, the most challenging situation the two of them had ever been in together. All they could do was take things one day at a time. Listening to Tilly, a look of concern flickered across her facial features. “I know you’re gonna say no, but I would be happy to handle the bills for a while. You have your hands full, and it really is the least I can do.”

"Well, if it isn't my favorite sister-in-law." Tilly smiled, closing her car door and taking the few strides that it took her to get to her sister in law's front porch. This had become nearly a weekly thing over the course of the last six months; it was a comfort in it's own way, even if the ladies never spoke of it out loud. They would sit on the porch, share a bottle of wine and move on about their day, hoping the comfort and the silence was enough to heal the other's heart; at least for a little bit. The papers that were tucked under her arm fell and Tilly sighed, leaning over to pick them up as she shook her head. "I don't know how he did it." she mentioned, showing the other a bill with a red 'overdue' stamp on top of it. "He'd be so disappointed in me if he saw how things were running around here without him, don't you think?" Truthfully, most people would've given up the place a long time ago but not Tilly. To her, giving up on it was giving up on Jack and there was no part of her that was ready for that yet.
Glancing up from where she was perched on the porch swing, Shelby let out a laugh. “Favorite? I’m flattered,” she said to Tilly. Their little weekly wine meetup was exactly what she needed in her life. Even though it had been several months since Jack’s passing, Shelby’s heart still broke for Tilly. Especially in moments like these. Yes, Shelby lost a brother, but Tilly lost the love of her life. “Stop it, he wouldn’t be disappointed. You’re trying your best, and it’ll take you time to get all your ducks in a row. No shame in that.” Shelby grabbed the wine opener and began opening the bottle of Riesling she had selected. “What can I do to help? You know I’ll do anything for you. And I have too much free time on my hands as it is.”
WHERE: Their Home in Wilma WHEN: November 2024 WITH: @slvrspringss
Long days on the farm never seemed to get any easier, yet, Jonas loved nothing more than getting to pack up for the day and go home to his family. It was by far his favorite part of the day, and often the best form of stress relief depending on what kind of stuff he'd dealt with. Today had been a particularly easy day, and even though he was getting off a little earlier than he normally would have, a few stops on the way home put him getting there at normal time, but not empty handed. Jonas had a habit of surprising his fiancé' with flowers on a regular basis, and while he wasn't too cheap to spend the money on her, he would often make his own bouquet from the wildflower garden they'd been growing for the better part of two years, placing them in a vase on their kitchen counter, which he did today before making his way towards the master bedroom. He leaned against the doorway as he heard the soft coos from their son and he smiled, hanging his cowboy hat in the appropriate place, but quietly moved into the bedroom as not to wake his sleeping fiance'; the fact she was napping was a likely big indication that she'd had a long night with their son and had been gracious enough to let him sleep instead. She truly was the best. He smiled as he scooped up Brooks, his arms tightly holding the child as he pulled him closer to his chest, a soft kiss placed on his head. "Hey bud. Let's go shower while momma sleeps, okay?" he smiled, kissing his son's head again, but realized too late that he wasn't quite sure how he was going to manage showering with his son when he still hadn't gotten undressed. "Or maybe we should go play? I'm scared if I put you down you're going to get fussy and Momma won't get her beauty sleep." he smiled. "Not that she needs it though, right little man?" As he talked, he moved down the hallway to the guest bathroom, turning on the water to shower there instead, really wanting to let Cecelia sleep. "I hope you were a good boy today." he spoke, placing his son on his lap, sitting on the edge of the tub as he did his best to begin getting undressed to settle in for the evening.
Cecelia liked to think she took to motherhood well. It was easily the most difficult thing she had ever done, but she loved all parts of it. Jonas was a wonderful father, and she felt very lucky to have him by her side. They were figuring everything out together, just like they always had. After feeding Brooks, she had set him down in his bassinet and fell asleep herself which hadn't been her intention. Her sleep was just light enough that she happened to hear Jonas leave the room with their son. Standing up from the bed, she tossed on her blue satin dressing gown since she always ran cold. Peering into the guest bathroom, a smile spread across her face. "Oh, don't worry. He was. He went on a walk in town with mum today and may or may not have gone to the bookstore," she said, hinting that she once again came home with new books. @ofthingsunsaid
“ you’ve got to be kidding me ! “ seren stops her step abruptly to glance down herself. the color of red wine starting to soak through her top, creeping down towards the fabric of her skirt. great. just … great. narrowed eyes find her opposite– something between anger and … frustration ? she was supposed to be at work right after dinner. “ seriously ?! “ she hisses, voice agitated.
Shelby had, unfortunately, been in this exact situation several times before. She had a habit of being pretty clumsy when she was drinking, so she had been known to spill on herself. Being a girl's girl, she was quick to make her way over to the younger woman. "Can I get some club soda, please?" Shelby asked the nearest waitstaff. "You're going to need it to get that out. Here, take this," she said, offering her an extra napkin. "Blot away as much as you can."
