"First you stumble over your own feet and now you start dropping things? Are you really this clumsy or do these kinds of things just coincidentally happen when I'm around."
"Come on, Ly. You know you like hearing dragon stories. Besides, it gives us a chance to bond."
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to take my bad mood out on you or anything. This just really isn't my favorite day. So what was that dragon doing again?"
"I said that youâve got to come out with me."
"Yeah I got that part, Al, but why or where to?"
Think it is safe to say that I can take a break on the Arithmacy work for now.
I would have taken a break much earlier if I were in your shoes. All these numbers, I have no idea how you can bear it.
"Yeah, not really. I appreciate the suggestion, but I think Iâd rather just do the work and enjoy the weather when I get a chance."
"Your decision." He said with a shrug, his smile not faltering. "I imagine that kind of approach really comes in handy once exams are around the corner."
"Yeah, Â that would be awful. And Iâm happier not being dull, than not being great at studying."
"I see you have your priorities right." Lysander commented with a smile.
"Good, nothing above having no broken bones what so ever." He snorts. "So what have you been up to lately?"
"Oh, this and that. Quidditch, avoiding school work, doing whatever strikes my fancy. How about you, apart from tripping over your own two feet?"
"At least you are fair enough to admit it, however how productive is it to prove that some ancient spell can make water get out from a painting?" she said, raising an eyebrown in disbelief. "Writing essays can help you understand a subject better, and I hardly can see how this could be less productive than the first."
She laughed at Lysander, that only now worried about that. âYou are right, no one wants to get in trouble, but a little camaraderie is also good. As to being a prefect, I am not, so you can relax.â
"Well, if I ever need a painting to do something like this, I now know which spell to use." He clarified with a smirk. "All the things I write in an essay I either already knew before or just read about in a book. Writing it all down again seems a little redundant. It just doesn't seem to have much of a practical value. Most of the time, I forget what I wrote within a couple of days."
"Hey, you make it sound like they're a disloyal bunch or something. Running probably would have been the smartest choice in this situation. If I had ran away as well, there wouldn't really be the danger of any of us getting into trouble, would there? Honestly, I can't blame them for a decision that I made." He visibly relaxed at hearing that she wasn't a prefect. "Oh, good. I'm not really paying attention to that kind of stuff, so you had me worried for a bit."
"I'm sorry, is there a point to this story?"
"Yeah," she nodded and sighed. "Most of the time, I donât mind this being a school, but right now it would be nice if there was less school work to be done."
"Well, the obvious solution would be to only do the most urgent school work and slack off with the rest. But I guess that's not really an option for you?" He asked with a smile.
"You havenât? Feel lucky!" He grinned and sipped his drink.
"Oh, believe me, I feel very fortunate."
"Yep. Too bad it will remain a dream."
He shrugged. "We'll just have to live with this situation. I suppose it could be worse. We could be bad at studying and completely dull people."
"I've got a free period,"
"Ah, well. Thereâs always a bit on the letters about how I have to reply to this one. Youâd think theyâd realize it doesnât work.â Rose snorted and bowed theatrically. âThank you, I am a massively creative person. Iâm pretty sure at least half of the things I would think of doing to the wall would result in a detention. That is, if they caught me.âÂ
"Well, giving up on it would probably feel too much like admitting defeat to them." He grinned. "Wouldn't expect less of you. Not getting caught is the true art though."
"Technically?" she asked, raising an eyebrow to him, still accusative. However, when he was successful on stopping the water flow, Lucy was relieved enough to donât complain with him about it.Â
âA bet? You people really need to find some productive things to do, otherwise that kind of things - she said, showing the painting, now normal, on the wall - start to happen. Anyway, it looks like you indeed lost.â
"And also that your friends were too worried in getting themselves out of trouble to help you." Lucy noticed, once he was the only one who had stayed there. Slytherins werenât famous for their loyalty, after all.
"Well, I wasn't the one casting the spell but I can hardly pretend that l wasn't involved in this at all." He explained with a shrug of his shoulders. "We just confirmed that a rather ridiculous sounding spell is actually working. That sounds pretty productive to me. Seems more useful than writing essays to be honest."
"Can't blame them for not wanting to get in trouble. Being caught does kind of suck." He narrowed his eyes. "You're not a prefect, are you?" He added, the thought only just now occurring to him.
Writing Prompt 1: Wand
The day a young witch or wizard receives his or her wand is one of the most magical days of their lives. For a Muggleborn, this is proof of the strange new world they enter; for those who grew up knowing about magic, getting a wand is just the beginning of a new adventure. Many wizarding families choose to go to Ollivanderâs, located in Diagon Alley, to pick up their wands, although there are other, smaller wandmakers to choose from as well. A wizardâs bond with his wand is a magical thing; the wand reacts to the ownerâs inborn magical abilities and there are many factors that affect a wandâs abilities, from length to core materials to degree of flexibility.
"Of course itâs the stairsâ fault.â He laughed "Isnât it always?"
"I wouldn't know, I actually don't encounter problems with the stairs that often."
"Oh? Then what exactly did you mean? Because it wasnât quite clear. It sounded an awful lot like a pity thing, which Iâll have you know, I donât need.â
"Not remotely dangerous? Youâve gotta be kidding me. How is it that youâve managed to escape unscathed for so long? You know, the giant squid seems friendly and all, but Iâve got my reservations about it. One of these days itâs going to snatch a student up and drown it, I just know it.â
"It was a semi-joking suggestion? I don't do pity kissing. I only kiss girls that I find attractive."
"You're probably not the first one to wonder about this, but I actually know what I'm doing. Or maybe I've just been lucky. The probability of being mauled by creatures isn't very high unless you decide to take a long walk in the forbidden forest, that's just how it is. And the squid has been here for ages. I'm sure that if it was interested in the students, that kind of think would have happened much sooner."
