Slytherin Head Canons

Somebody wanted me to tell you all about my Slytherin head canons and I didn’t really know how to go about this so bear with me and hopefully you’ll enjoy my fantasies about being a Slytherin (and a goddamn good one at that).

Slytherins would be extremely elegant and cunning in terms of everything they do. They’re the aristocrats, socialites, royalty, and perfectionists of the Hogwarts population.

Slytherins were raised to be proper, professional, and polite. They were told to keep their chins up, back s straight, and ignore the temptations of slacking off or letting their values slip away.

Slytherins are similar to Ravenclaws in one particular way. They have a thirst for knowledge and thrive on being referred to as geniuses or intellectuals. However, their pursuit of good grades and valuable information is not for the mere peace of mind that they’re smart or the comfort behind knowing a lot. Slytherins don’t learn to learn. They learn because they understand that knowledge is power, and power to a Slytherin is like adventure to a Gryffindor. They need it to live properly.

Slytherins are often misunderstood. They’re called things like cruel, heartless, and bitter. This is merely because Slytherins aren’t afraid to take what they want, and if something is in their way, it’s in their nature to remove it. A Slytherin’s ambition can be a blessing and a cruse, for it can cause success for them and hurt others in the process.

Slytherins are Incredible friends. They are loyal and honest and trustworthy people to those they care about. They take great pride in being the protector of the group, because it’s always the Slytherin that will get up and kick some ass if someone so much as breathes near their friend in a threatening or insulting way.

Slytherins are extremely effective in problem solving. This goes hand in hand with the ambition thing. If something gets in their way or causes an issue, trust a Slytherin to do what they need to to fix it.

Slytherins can DANCE. Like, really dance. From dancing the waltz to fucking clog dancing, Slytherins can do it and they can do it in STYLE.

Speaking of style, Slytherins are super well dressed. Usually in dark colors, like black or dark grey, sometimes maroon or emerald green. Slytherins are all about the shiny shoes, pressed expensive fabric, and elegant detail on their clothes. Slytherins take pride in their appearance, and don’t mind waking up an hour early in the morning to curl their hair or lace up their thigh high boots.

when i was about 8 (bearing in mind deathly hallows was released when i was about 15) i wrote a harry potter fanfiction where harry and ginny where married and it was the morning of the september 1st and they were taking their 3 kids to the platform to meet ron, hermione, and their kids. i dont remember what the weasley kids were called, but i do remember that harrys kids were called lily, james, and for some reason mercury bob. i dont know why mercury bob, but i do know its still less stupid than albus severus.

Slytherin’s cardinal traits are ambition, cunning and determination. Like the Gryffindor House, Slytherins are emotionally volatile. In contrast, however, Slytherins are much less dominant and assertive, and less extroverted in general. Rather than expressing these emotions outwardly, Slytherins direct them inward or act in a passive aggressive manner. Both Gryffindor and Slytherin are much more driven to succeed than the other two houses: Gryffindor out of pride and Slytherin out of ambition. Slytherins are also much more pragmatic than the other houses and more adept at manipulating people. A key trait would be a low level of agreeableness: Slytherins are more pessimistic, more distrustful than most, and more likely to attribute negative motivations to people. So although Slytherins experience a wide range of emotions, due to their distrustful views of people and skeptical worldview, they are less expressive and more likely to appear cold or distant unless provoked. A Slytherin’s ambitious nature comes out in different ways depending on what is important to the individual person. It could lead them to try to achieve top marks (if intellect and schooling is important to them) but it could also be directed at social settings or towards athletic endeavors.
