The moment they finished practice, Ilya hurried to his phone, a huge grin on his face. It seemed that now they were out to the world, he somehow missed Shane more than ever before, his heart aching every time he couldn't talk to his fiance. It made it even worse that Shane was currently at Ilya's house, probably in his bed. What did it matter that he was part of a team practicing for playoffs when he had much more important things to worry about?
Of course, when he looked down at his messages, he couldn't help but laugh.
Shane <3: Ilya, WHAT THE FUCK? Shane <3: WHERE ARE MY CLOTHES? Shane <3: WHERE IS MY SUITCASE?
Smirking, he replied.
Ilya: Is okay, malysh, I took out your face slime and left in bathroom before taking clothes with me. Now you just have to wear my things. So sad. Shane <3: You fucking asshole. Shane <3: Are you serious? Shane <3: OH MY GOD. Shane <3: YOU LEFT YOUR FUCKING JERSEY? Shane <3: ROZANOV I SWEAR TO GOD.
Ilya was still grinning as Troy walked over, leaning to catch a peek at his screen. "Messaging Hollander?" he asked knowingly, but his expression turned to shock as he took in the fact that Shane's words were NOT pleased. "Damn, Roz. Trouble in paradise?"
But he just laughed, throwing an arm around Troy. "Ah, no, Barrett. I am very, very happy here. This is truest love, I think."
Troy snorted, rolling his eyes, while Ilya grinned at another incoming text.
It was a picture of Shane in his jersey with the caption 'I fucking hate you.'
"Shane, this is Mama. Mama, this is my Shane."

Usually, Shane catches it. Because he’s particular to the point of obsessiveness and has followed the same morning routine since Rookie season, he always looks in his back to make sure he has everything he needs before they leave for the day.
But on this particular morning, everything possible that can go wrong, does go wrong.
Their alarms don’t go off, Anya chooses this morning to chew up her favorite toy and regurgitate the pieces, and they run out of ingredients for Shane’s favorite breakfast drink. It’s a disaster, so he doesn’t have time to check his bag. He simply trusts that nothing disappeared from the contents since yesterday.
And it’s true. Nothing did disappear.
But his asshole husband did sneak something inside.
“Oh my god, Hollzy, what is this?” Bood calls out gleefully as Shane grabs a roll of stick tape from the bag before practice, jostling the contents before turning away.
“Hockey rulebook, you should try reading it,” he chirps dryly, not even looking up from his work. “Maybe score a few goals.”
But the retort fails brilliantly when he finally looks up and sees what Bood has taken from his bag.
It’s a book, alright. But it’s not remotely hockey-related. Instead, the cover depicts a ridiculously muscular man covered in tattered clothing that reveals every inch of his chest, standing on the deck of a ship, holding a fainting woman in his arms.
Shane’s never dabbled in this particular type of literature before, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what it is. “Oh my g–that is not mine,” he insists, knowing that this just makes him sound even more guilty.
But half the team’s already congregated around them, curious about what’s going on. Ilya, the asshole that he is, plucks the novel from Bood’s hand and opens to a page he clearly marked for this exact moment, clearing his voice before speaking loudly. “...and then he slipped his huge sword into my quivering sheath, making me moan–’ Wow, Hollander, is very steamy, do you read this before games? No wonder you are so pent up.”
The entire locker room bursts out laughing as Shane chucks a towel in his husband’s direction, spewing off threats and insults under his breath as he turns even redder.
But, a few excruciating minutes later, after the guys take it in turns to read the best quotes from the book, Shane finally calms down enough to glare at a still-smirking Ilya. “Where the fuck did you get that, anyway?” he asks, not sure he wants to know.
Ilya just grins and shrugs. “Sveta. Normally, in past, I read books with two boys, so…”
And Shane, utterly flustered, is forced to go through practice completely distracted, thinking about his husband’s reading choices.

"Fuck, Rozanov, did you send me a box of rocks?" Shane complained, holding his phone to his ear with his shoulder as he carried a package into his Montreal home.
"Yes," Ilya deadpanned from the other end of the line, so flatly that Shane could nearly hear him rolling his eyes. "Rocks from Boston beaches. A gift from me to you, Hollander."
Shane snorted. "Your beaches are rocky as shit. But what is it, really?"
"Yes, you need me to tell you, because you cannot...I don't know...open box and find out?"
Grumbling, Shane wrenched the tape off and opened the box, revealing what looked like some sort of bedding. "A...blanket?"
"Pick it up, solnyshko."
He let out a little grunt as he did so, taken off-guard by the weight. It wasn't heavy, especially for someone who regularly spent hours lifting weights in a state-of-the-art gym, but it was certainly not light and airy like a normal blanket, and Shane frowned as he flexed his arm, testing it. "It's...heavy."
"Yes. Twenty pounds. Internet said to do a little over ten percent of your weight," Ilya explained patiently, as if waiting for Shane's approval.
But Shane still wasn't sure what was happening. "Um..." he lifted the blanket completely out of the box, "what's it for, though? Besides, like, warming?"
Ilya chuckled. "Go sit on your couch and put it on your lap or around shoulders."
Feeling a bit silly, Shane obeyed again, gathering the slightly-stubborn blanket in his arms and plopping on the couch, spreading it on his lap.
Instantly, tension he hadn't realized was in his neck, his back, his shoulders, released. He let out a sigh of relief as he relaxed, body sinking into the cushions, eyelids fluttering a little. The stubborn ache that seemed to never fully leave the spot behind his eyes after a long day disappeared.
"Fuck," he murmured, groaning. "That's..."
Quickly, he put his phone on speaker and cocooned himself in the blanket, smiling.
"Is good?" Ilya's voice asked, a smile in his tone.
"Yeah."
"Good. Teammate's son sometimes gets upset like you. When there is loud noise or bright lights. He said that this helps, so I sent it to you. I will get one for my house, too, and send one to cottage," the other man explained softly.
"You don't have-"
"I want to. You sound sleepy now, sweetheart. Go rest. Call me later."
"M'kay. Love you."
"You too, solnyshko."

Shane continuously heard the soft click of the camera.
Small moments that meant nothing to him, captured by the little camera Ilya had managed to snag at a flea market. Shane hadn’t realized how important it was to Ilya to capture precisely those moments as snapshots of their lives.
Unlike before, Ilya doesn't upload them anywhere. Instead, he saves them to his laptop, then to his phone, and finally prints them out to store in the albums that were slowly but surely piling up on their bookshelf.
Once, he heard the soft click before he had even opened his eyes. The morning sun streamed gently into the room, and he heard the faint rustling of the sheets. “Ilya,” he called out into the room, and a soft “hmm” came in reply.
“What are you doing?”
“Oh, nothing.” Click.
Shane sighed softly and opened one eye, only to flinch briefly when he saw Ilya leaning over him, the small camera lens pointed right at him.
“Tell me you didn’t just take a pic of me while I was sleeping.”
“Okey: I didn’t take a picture of you while you were sleeping.” Ilya grinned mischievously, which made Shane smile.
“God, why do you need that? You see me like this every day,” Shane laughed.
“Yeah, but… I don’t know, sometimes I get the feeling that all of this…” Ilya didn’t finish his sentence, but lowered the camera slightly and looked at Shane pensively instead. “That at some point it’ll just… poof… vanish.”
Shane’s breath caught briefly, his hands automatically reaching for Ilyas.
“Hey,” Shane breathed, tightening his grip. Ilya didn’t answer; instead, he kept looking into Shane’s eyes. When they grew slightly misty, Shane repeated his “hey” and pulled him close to his chest.
“I’m here.” Ilya buried his head in Shane’s neck, and a deep breath washed over his entire body. Shane heard Ilya set his camera down on the nightstand and felt his arms wrap around him.
“I won’t leave you alone, Ilya. Never again.”
A soft whimper escaped Ilya's lips and brushed against Shane's neck. A shiver ran down his spine, and he wrapped his arms more tightly around Ilya.
“Sometimes… I feel like I’m dreaming all of this, Shane. You cannot imagine… how much I wanted this. Always. For so long. Shit,” Ilyas’s voice cracked, and their embrace grew even tighter. His thighs wrapped around Shane’s hips until they were pressed perfectly against each other.
“I know, Ilya. I wasn’t feeling any better,” Shane laughed wetly. He hadn’t noticed that tears had welled up in his eyes, and his breath caught as he felt them roll down his cheeks. His heart beat against Ilya’s, and suddenly he wanted nothing more than to stay right there in that very moment.
“Let’s never be that foolish again, okay?” Ilya chuckled, his hot breath on Shane’s skin.
"Okey."
"Okay."

"This doesn't have to be awkward, you know."
Those were the first words Rose Landry spoke to Ilya, when Shane stepped away to the bathroom, leaving them in a very stiff silence.
"Is not awkward," he muttered, nose wrinkling as he glowered.
It was.
"Sure. And you're not trying to kill me with your mind," she said conversationally, reaching for another piece of bread from the bowl in the middle of Shane's table. "But here's the thing: I don't want Shane. So you don't need to worry about that. I get that you're upset about what happened in the past-"
"Am not upset," he spat, very upset.
"-but you have to see the positives of this, here, Ilya," Rose said lightly but a bit beseechingly. "We can use this to our advantage."
He glanced up to her, dubious. He had to admit, though, his interest was piqued. "How would we do this?"
She broke into a smile that looked almost evil. "We," she gestured between the two of them, "have knowledge about Shane Hollander that nobody else does. And if we join forces? We can use it against him. You think you can get under his skin now? Wait until I tell you what he's like when he tries to take a girl shopping."
His mouth popped open a little as he considered that. But then a beautiful and terrible thought occurred to him. "Tell me you did not take him to lingerie store," he murmured, eyes wide.
"Oh, I did," she grinned. "He was so uncomfortable, he accidentally bumped into a mannequin and said ‘excuse me.’"
Ilya couldn't help himself. He broke into a smile. "Did he panic when you brought him to see bras? Tell me he did."
"He wouldn't even look at them. Made an excuse about being allergic to silk and then tripped and fell into a stack of underwear," she said, beaming.
By the time Shane returned, they were both laughing, tears in their eyes. "Hollander! Hollander!" Ilya yelled, smile wide. "Rose Landry is going to take us both when she goes to buy panties next. She says you have very good taste in these things!"
Shane sank back into his chair, groaning. "Fuck. I should've never introduced you."

"It's going to be you," Shane muttered under his breath, heart hammering in his chest as the announcement began. "Stupid perfect Captain."
"It will be you, solnyshko. Fuck you and your last-minute goal," Ilya murmured back, sending him a smirk.
They'd been competing for it all season–not just the Cup, but the season's MVP award. As Ottawa had finally won the finals, it was very likely that it would be one of them getting that award as well. And since Shane and Ilya both got to bring home the Cup this year, together, for the first time...well...someone had to be the winner, somehow. Because even on the same team, they were always competing. They both loved it, though, the dynamic between them. It made them stronger players.
Of course, a bet had been placed and the chirping had gotten intense as the playoffs had progressed, but both of them had been thrilled to see the other succeed, and they'd agreed together: they would be happy, no matter what happened.
(Shane would be happier if he won, of course, and he was sure Ilya felt the same about himself, but that was another story.)
"...and the MVP of this year goes to..." the announcer said loudly, drawing both Shane and Ilya's attention.
They gripped each others' hands under the table, waiting. Shane held his breath, willing his name to be called.
"...Luca Haas!"
His mouth fell open and he looked to his husband in shock.
"WHAT?" Ilya demanded, looking completely taken aback. Shane shook his head, not knowing what to say.
"Clap, you idiots," Harris hissed at them across the table.
Robotically, Shane complied, still trying to figure out what the hell had happened.
Then, Scott Hunter leaned over to them from the next table. "Now you know how it feels, huh? To be the old guys? Before you know it, some asshole rookie's going to start calling you a dinosaur. What then, Rozanov?"
Ilya's face turned bright red as he swore loudly and stood up, storming away; Shane laughing from his seat.

It doesn't take long for Svetlana to get Shane's phone number. After she finds out the whole story, she immediately steals it from Ilya's phone when he's in the bathroom, and sends a text to the other man.
"What are you doing?" Ilya asks suspiciously when he returns, eyeing the way Svetlana is grinning evilly at her phone, like she's instigating something truly diabolical. It's a terrifying look.
"Texting Jane," she replies casually from her seat on Ilya's couch, as if she hasn't just dropped a bomb so terrifying Ilya's stomach just dropped to his ass.
"Sveta! Fuck! You-" Not thinking, he dives, trying to grab the device, only to find himself face-first on the couch, Svetlana already halfway across the room.
"Oh, calm down, Ilyusha, it's fine. We are bonding. Girl talk, you know?" She laughs, like this is the most hilarious joke of all time.
But he's too busy panicking to laugh. What will she say to Shne? God, there are a million embarrassing stories she can tell, a million things she can bring up to mortify him. Swearing, Ilya sits up and glowers.
"Oh, you are being a baby. It's fine, see?" Grinning, she shows him the screen.
Svetlana: Jane. This is Svetlana. Did you know you have exactly four freckles on your ass? Jane: I...how did you know that? Svetlana: Lily has told me. Gone into detail many times. It's very sweet but also very gross of him. You also have back dimples, are you aware? He has written poetry about them. Jane: That's Jane: I Jane: What else does he say about me? Svetlana: That your dick makes him feel more emotion than most award-winning films.
Horrified, Ilya looks up. "Sveta!"
"What? It's all true! Ilyusha, you have been torturing me talking about Jane for years, the least I can do is pass on the best things you have said!" she protests gleefully, absolutely thrilled with herself.
"I will kill you," he mutters hollowly.
But it's too late. His phone is ringing, and he knows exactly who is on the other line.

Ilya couldn’t help but snort as he looked over to Shane, who was currently sprawled out on the bed looking absolutely wrecked, bite marks covering his ass and hickeys littering his neck; come still drying on his skin.
“What?” Shane asked slightly defensively, smiling a bit and raising an eyebrow as Ilya grinned happily at him. “Something funny, Rozanov?”
“Is nothing,” Ilya promised, shaking his head and trying to hide his smile. “Just…funny, sometimes. To think about this…Shane Hollander, Canada’s National Good Boy, is actually secret sex fiend.”
Shane flushed scarlet and furrowed his eyebrows so adorably that Ilya almost grabbed for him again. “Listen, I’m not…I’m not, like, this perfect angel they make me out to be, you know? I–”
“Oh, I know,” Ilya interrupted, sending him a salacious grin and earning an indignant slap on the arm.
“But in other ways, too! Like the press thinks I’m so good but I’ve done…I don’t know…I’ve done bad stuff before!” Shane insisted, crossing his arms and pouting.
An angry kitten. That was what he reminded Ilya of, just then. Ilya wanted to kiss the frown from his face, to devour him, to never let him go, to lock both of them in this stupid, obnoxiously luxurious cottage and live here forever with this perfect man.
Instead, he chuckled. “Hm? What bad thing have you done, kotenok? Steal piece of gum? Go too fast on highway?”
Shane glared at him for several seconds, expression deadly serious, before deflating slightly. “Once…I got pulled over for running a red light,” he murmured, eyes lowered, lips quivering upward.
Ilya felt his mouth split into an uninhibited grin. “Oh no,” he responded sarcastically, unable to resist the urge to reach for the other man this time. “I am so scared. To be this close to criminal!”
“Shut up, Rozanov.”
But Ilya was too busy connecting their lips again, swallowing Shane’s disgruntled murmurs with a heated kiss.
Day 25 (Bore) - @hollanovmicrofic - 577 words
“Ilya, it’s not that big of a deal,” Shane sighs, knocking on the door once more for good measure. He’s sure Hayden’s already heard him, but judging from the screaming going on inside the house, there clearly seems to be something else going on.
Ilya readjusts the pile of packages in his arms, making sure it’s steady before responding. “You are just saying that because he already likes you, Hollander!”
“He’s eight years old, Ilya, I’m sure he likes everyone.”
“But he never wants to play with me! Will be different this time, just watch.”
Before Shane can reply, the door is yanked open, revealing an exhausted looking Jackie holding a screeching Amber.
“Look baby,” she says in an effort to cajole the screaming menace, “it’s Uncle Shane and Uncle Ilya!” All that seems to accomplish though is getting the attention of the twins, who come barreling down the hall in search of presents.
Finally, once all the kids are settled and Hayden and Jackie are out the door, Ilya is set to begin his mission.
“Hi Arthur,” he says, crouching down next to the little boy, “I brought you something.”
He holds out the cardboard box, grinning as Arthur silently reaches out to grab it and begins prying it open. Inside is a remote control Porsche. Shane can’t help but roll his eyes at the obnoxious green exterior of the sports car. Ilya, however, doesn’t notice and is instead totally focused on Arthur’s reaction. Shane can literally see how he’s holding his breath, waiting for a response.
He gets it in the form of a shy, “Thank you, Uncle Ilya.”
“It’s no problem, should we put batteries in it?” Ilya says eagerly, already getting up to search for them. Amber chases at his heels in excitement, wanting a chance to try out the car herself.
Meanwhile, Shane watches as Arthur meanders back over to his side, picking up one of the blocks they were playing with earlier and resuming construction of their tower.
“Something the matter, Arthur?” Shane asks, reaching for the next block in the color sequence and handing it to him.
Arthur chews on his lip for a second, gathering the words before responding, “I like Uncle Ilya a lot, and it’s nice of him to bring presents.” Shane cracks a smile at the seriousness in the little boy’s voice. “But the games he wants to play are always kinda boring. I think I like playing with you more, Uncle Shane.”
Shane can’t help but burst out into laughter. He wonders if this is Ilya’s karma for years of calling him boring. However, the look of bewilderment on Arthur’s face is enough to calm him down.
“It’s ok to not find cars and stuff interesting,” Shane reassures the little boy, “I like playing with you a lot too.”
Arthur just nods sagely at this. His straight face quickly morphs into a toothy grin as he watches Amber toddle back into the room, chasing the now-alive remote control car.
“Did you still want to play with Uncle Ilya and Amber for a bit?”
Arthur nods, “Just a bit so I don’t hurt his feelings. But can you make sure no one messes with the blocks?”
“I’ll guard them with my life.”
Shane watches as Arthur makes his way over to the others, giggling as Ilya maneuvers the car to chase him and Amber around the living room. Maybe Uncle Ilya has finally won this round.

“We are breaking up.”
Shane, shocked, whipped his head around to look at Ilya, who was staring at him with utter betrayal in his eyes. “What the fuck?” he replied, confused.
“Hollander. What have you done?” Ilya asked, face twisting into a grimace, looking almost nauseous as he glared in his direction.
“I…I made popcorn?”
They were going to watch a film together–actually sit down and enjoy a movie all the way through for the first time as a couple, since they had a night together at Shane’s place in Montreal between some games. Shane’d scrounged up some microwave popcorn from a cabinet and Ilya had selected some ridiculous comedy.
But now, Ilya was staring bemusedly at him as if he’d suggested they play dress-up in princess dresses and parade around the city.
“You killed popcorn. Murdered it. Sent it to hell,” Ilya corrected, crossing his arms as wrinkling his nose.
“Oh. I mean, yeah. I like it a little well-done–” Shane began to explain awkwardly, gesturing to the bowl in front of him, which was full of the slightly-singed snack.
Ilya sighed, walking forward and popping one piece in his mouth. Immediately, he gagged dramatically. “Hollander. Is not well-done. Is burnt. And what did you put on it, hm? Smallest bit of salt?”
Shane held back a small smirk, both amused and a bit embarrassed, trying not to show how affected he was by his boyfriend’s whining, how much he wanted to lean forward and press their lips together. “I mean yeah, it doesn’t need–”
“Are there more bags? Butter? Salt? Different bowl?” the other man demanded, already walking toward the kitchen.
“Yeah, all in there,” he answered, chuckling.
“Good. I cannot believe you have managed to ruin popcorn, Hollander, bozhe moy, you are lucky you are hot,” Ilya grumbled.
Shane just grinned, walking over to the couch and shoving a handful of his snack into his mouth. His boyfriend was such an asshole.
This is such a bad idea. What is?
Asleep
Ilya tried to be quiet when he came home. Shane hadn’t gone out with the guys after the game. He was sore and tired, he said, which Ilya knew was mostly Shane’s code for I’m done peopling and I want to go home. Shane seemed to expect Ilya to give him a hard time about it, but Ilya had clocked his tone and the tension in his shoulders right away. He’d just kissed his forehead and told him to get some rest. Shane had been relieved at this reaction. Not for the first time, Ilya wondered how this conversation would have gone with his supposed friends in Montreal, but then he realized he didn’t really want an answer because it would piss him off all over again.
He’d had fun out with the guys. They’d all asked for Shane, but didn’t pursue it beyond the initial ask. Ilya always enjoyed the team’s company but he missed having Shane next to him at Monk’s so he didn’t stay very late. Shane had taken the car, and when the Uber dropped him off, their house was mostly dark, though the front light was still on, waiting for him.
Anya didn’t come running when he opened the door so he knew she must have been upstairs with Shane. Their bedroom door was closed, so he made sure to turn the hallway lights off before opening it. When he did, he could hear Shane’s white noise machine that was next to the bed. Anya was asleep in the dog bed they kept at the foot of their bed.
He closed the door quietly, stripping off his clothes as he tiptoed into the ensuite. He’d only had a couple of beers so he wasn’t drunk, but he still moved carefully.. Shane probably went to bed as soon as he got home, and Ilya didn’t want to disturb him. He washed his face and brushed his teeth as quickly as he could, eager to be curled up in bed with his husband.
Shane was asleep on his side, facing away from Ilya, covers pulled up around his bare shoulders. The room was dark and cool, the way Shane liked it; the shades drawn against the moonlight. Ilya slid into bed, feeling the weighted blanket Shane used when he went to bed alone instead of the duvet, which was neatly folded at the end of the bed. The blanket was that soft, fleece texture that Shane liked but it usually made Ilya too hot. Ilya pulled it back and Shane made a little noise of protest before Ilya covered both of them with it. He slotted himself in behind Shane, pressing a kiss to the back of his neck against that tiny patch of freckles he couldn’t see in the dark but knew was there and snaking an arm around his waist, resting his hand on Shane’s belly. His skin was warm, his muscles slack. Ilya smiled to himself, happy that this was a bit of Shane that only he got.
Shane sighed in his sleep, snuffling a little as he moved back, burrowing into Ilya. He settled again, snoring softly until it tapered off into slow, even breathing. Ilya pressed his nose against the crook of Shane’s neck and immersed himself in Shane's scent; his whole body relaxing now that he had his husband in his arms. It didn’t take long before he fell asleep too, listening to Shane breathe.
