Kit smiled as she sat down, offering up a silent thanks to the man. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her friends - she loved the girls to death - but she had no interest in whatever drama Lilah was unpacking. Macbeth Man (as she’d decided to call him until she learned his name) seemed like he’d be a much more interesting and exciting companion for the night, and his book proved he must have good taste. It was clear as a bell that the man she’d approached was just as nervous as she was, and somehow, that provided a small degree of comfort. Her original nerves at approaching a stranger were now replaced by he’s-handsome-oh-god nerves, but she’d be damned if she made a complete and utter fool of herself in front of him. His little mix-up was cute, but if she started babbling, she was sure he’d be up and running without a second’s hesitation. He also had the advantage of an accent. At least, she thought she heard a hint of one, and it would absolutely be her undoing. Luckily, Kit’s Jack&Coke had made the journey across the room with her, and she took a small sip before attempting to speak.
An awkward silence hung between them as both figured out the words to say. “I, I actually read Hamlet for fun in high school, so I guess you could say yes, I like Shakespeare. And Macbeth is my favorite play, despite the whole dark, murder-y thing. I know it’s cliche but I also kind of love Romeo and Juliet, but that’s unimportant. I - uh - I’m Kit, by the way. Well, Katherine, actually, but I usually go by Kit. You can call me either one, though.” She’d started so smoothly (so she thought), and then came the rambling. Good job, Kit. She cursed herself under her breath before extending her hand across the table for the man to shake. @slytherscripts
Still internally cursing himself for the mixup, Cailean smiled back at her as she made her way into the seat. The brunette was petite, and there was something about her smile that spread warmth throughout his body. He couldn’t seem to keep his eyes off her, which provided even more awkward silence because he realized it was staring. It was clear that his reading choice what her motivation for coming over, so he hoped now that he could actually form words properly. Maybe even impress her a little bit with his degree in Shakespearean Literature. “Hamlet is an excellent choice for high school literature. The concepts it explores are intriguing and engaging for kids that age. It’s definitely not my favorite. To be quite honest I think it’s a little overrated.” Great now you sound pretentious. Stating that Macbeth was her favorite took Cailean by surprise. It was the one Shakespeare that he felt was looked over because of the theatrical superstition. He definitely didn’t expect her to like it as much as she claimed. What made more sense was her love of Romeo and Juliet. It was incredibly cliche, but it was classic. In fact, it was in Cailean’s top three Shakespeare favorites. “Those are wonderful choices. My favorite is the Tempest, followed closely by A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Katherine. He loved the sound of her name, but he liked that she told him her nickname as well. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Kit. My name is Cailean.” He extended his hand across the table, holding it out for her to shake. @acrosstheverses
