3/4 REVIEW

Line drawings for each of my three Shell Gas Station designs. After making a few minor design adjustments, the main task left now is to work on rendering these views in the style of Mies, using the methods from the research portion of the semester and incorporating my own aesthetic where needed to further illustrate the design intent.

3/4 Review

For this review I progressed on my design for Bentley, KS and tried to distill the acoustic and visibility systems in the Bryant Park Station.

Complete set of drawings for all three locations for BOA design strategy.  Pods have become the iconic piece of the BOA strategy while the wall that intersect these pods becomes the variable piece that is always present but will change depending on it's context.

A rock climbing structure has developed in my large McDonald's design sited on the Las Vegas strip.

New site in Portland. My focus in Portland will be an accessible bike ramp to accommodate the bike culture of Portland. I have finished an interior image of my Manhatten Walgreens and finished my Manhatten site plan as well.

This is a snapshot of today's presentation. I feel like I have a good start on the second and third buildings but will be making some tweaks to them to make them better. Over the next week and a half I will be turning my drawings into my representational style and continuing on with the designs and final drawings.

Olive Garden Test Kitchen:

This approach was taken in response to the restaurant's dwindling sales. Currently, Olive Garden already creates new menu items in attempt to get new customers in the door. The idea here is the new plates would appear in the traveling pavilion before they are offered in actual restaurants. One iconic tree column holds up a polished mirror canopy that appears infinitely thin and also reflects its surroundings as a form of responding to context since it doesn't have its own true site. The glass walls slide on a track to open up to have only one back wall of layered glass. Alternatively, glass could be left on one other side to block gusts of wind if necessary.

This week I was finalizing my medium and small store design strategies.  The small store is developed as a four part pop-up store module set that can fit in a variety of different urban location ranging from a parking space and sidewalk to a plaza or market.  Both attempt to address issues of contemporary shopping.  The medium store addressing issues of shopping and media and the small store boosting brand loyalty by creating temporary event spaces for activities as the major focus rather than the selling of merchandise directly.
