There is nobody more upset by modern Star Trek than my 80 year old grandmother. She called me after SNW’s final episode and starts the conversation with “Neshama I have been strung along for 60 years. It is legal now, why are they doing this?”

What is she upset about you may ask? Straight Spock. She is an avid hater of straight Spock. She said it was fine in AOS because he was “In the closet. Clearly he was dealing with some things.”

But the main reason she’s upset about it is because Spock always reminded her of her friend who was a queer Jewish man in the late 60s when they became friends. And I think that story perfectly summarizes the importance of Spock as a character, he was created specifically for those who were outsiders. Removing both the queercodedness and the Jewishness from Spock’s character had been a massive mistake on paramount’s part because that was a major factor in why Spock was a favorite. Trying to force Spock to fit whatever mold the political climate calls for goes against everything Spock and Star Trek represent. If my nana says Star Trek was more progressive in the 60s then we’ve lost the plot, the boundaries towards progress should not stay stagnant on the show they should continue to be pushed. They should not bend for the conservative base.

i get all the star trek girlies. i get it now. im watching the original series for the first time, and the heavens above me literally just opened up. it was crazy. mr. spock beamed down and told me he's the greatest character ever made. did this happen to anyone else. im sorry i ever doubted your vision guys he's the best

New Years week craft journal

first attempt at forrealsies blogging, I will probably have some sort of short summary of my week with pictures of art/crafts I did each day and song recs at the end. Most of this was written after the fact so it might read a little strangely

Monday-- I think I spent this day finishing crocheting a hat for my friend. I used up all my blue scraps with bits of black and eyelash yarn to make him one of those cat ear beanies.

Tuesday-- probably odd for a teenage girl to do but I'm in a sewing group at my church w/ all the little old ladies and they help me with projects. I spent all day there (and hardly ate because I spent lunchtime getting a zipper from hobby lobby lol) I finished making

The bag (obvi)

Wednesday-- new years eve, I like, hung out w friends most of the day and I don't remember crafting much

Sunday(today)-- I'm pretty sure I went to church this day (duh) and I made a bracelet out of buttons and wire while finishing season 5 of buffy the vampire slayer. this is it on me <3
