I guess since I have a bunch of SU blogs following me now, it’s about as good a time as ever to become peak trash and post some of my cross-fandom HCs.  This goes out to all the Pink Quartzes and Rose Diamonds out there.

A gem’s gemstone acts as the equivalent to the SOUL for the purpose of targeted magical effects, that’s a pretty obvious & straightforward one.

A less obvious side-effect of this is that, due to the fact a gem’s form gets it’s color scheme almost entirely from it’s gemstone, color-swaps caused by SOUL magic (blue, yellow, green, etc.) would cause a gem’s whole form to get a new tint to it. Undyne turns Jasper’s nose green? Now she’s ///Green Jasper///- in addition to not being able to move her legs.

Whether or not this can have some more complicated effect on the gem and it’s personal abilities (does gem color have any correlation with a gem’s powers? I wouldn’t know) is up to smarter people to decide.

Gems, like monsters, don’t seem to have a lot of actual physical matter to them (aside from their aforementioned gemstones); their physical forms just being a “magical” projection. Their “SOUL”s are powerful, but seem to focus more on creating physical strength (ex. Boss Monsters) rather than spiritual strength like human SOULs do.

For that reason, Gems most likely don’t possess the capability to harm monsters with their “intent” like any edgy knife-hugging human children might. At the same time, they aren’t made out of “magic and emotions” like monsters are, so they clearly don’t have their same weakness of being vulnerable to such killing intent.

Both gems and monsters fall to the power of friendship, though.
