(Author's Notes)
Panel 1: At work, Laudna's repair counter is unusually empty. Further down the counter, Mr. Griff looks uneasy. Imogen is telekinetically lifting something off a shelf to dust underneath it.
Imogen: No customers today? That's unusual.
Laudna: Maybe I've mended everything there is to be fixed in town!
Panel 2: Mrs. Griff hands Imogen a broom.
Imogen: Oh, you want me to use this instead? All right.
Mrs. Griff: If you don't mind.
Panel 3: Imogen begins sweeping. Mrs. Griff clasps her feathered hands together uncomfortably.
Imogen: Say, do you and Mr. Griff want to come over for dinner? Laudna's making corn and blueberry pancakes. I know you're partial to those.
Mrs. Griff: Oh . . . that's sweet of you, dollbaby. We'd love to, but we're goin' to the temple to hear the sermon by the new cleric in the evening.
Imogen: All right. Some other time, maybe.
Panel 4: As they walk home, Laudna raises a friendly hand in greeting to a little girl, but her mother hurries her away.
Laudna: Hello, Rosabel! How are your bunnies?
Panel 5: Looking around, she finds herself the target again of unfriendly, untrusting stares, and shrinks back a bit against Imogen.
Imogen: What's her problem? Is it just me, or is everyone actin' real strange of late?
Laudna: Maybe it's the weather. It does seem unseasonably warm. Not that I'm an expert on Marquesian weather.
Panel 6: View of the temple from outside. It seems particularly busy, with more people streaming in.
