Hello, Ms. Student Council President. Lately I've been having issues with my depression and anxiety being worse. I've tried to always smile even when things are bad like you said, but it isn't helping. It's actually making things worse. Everyone thinks I'm okay when I need help, and when I ask for it, they say I'm "fine". I've even started thinking of trying to end my life again. I just feel so worthless and useless and I know nobody likes me so what's even the point anymore? I give up.

“Oh my...I am really sorry to hear that Anon-san. But first and foremost: suicide isn’t the answer. Ending your life before it even begins means that yes, you won’t feel any pain anymore...but you will also never be able to experience anything worthwhile, joy, happiness living life! But I know that isn’t what you came to hear...you must be so so sick of hearing that line so I won’t.

If you are really hurting, confused, tired, depressed - let me just say you don’t have to pretend you are okay. Quite rightfully I think you have done MORE than enough smiling, wearing a mask all the time hurts doesn’t it? You will find there are people out there that will only listen to so much, that after a time all your problems become ‘excuses’ and you are actually ‘fine’...don’t listen to those people.A problem is something that severely effects you: be it mentally, emotionally or physically. Waving it away is easy when it isn’t effecting you, especially when depression gives way to suicidal thoughts.”

dear miss fairchild i have been bullyed most of my life but grew a thick skin now i am taking flak at my work from customers that has nothing to do with me some even threaten to get violent what do i do? i feel so lost and miserable right now

“Threatening violence on anyone is ILLEGAL no matter what the place or circumstance! Anon-san if you find yourself being threatened by ANYONE you should call the police and let them have a word with the trouble maker - walk away, tell your boss, phone the police (or have a co worker phone for you, namely your boss) then rinse and repeat if needed.

You should be able to work in a environment that doesn’t put you at risk of injury from another person! And you certainly don’t have to put up with that sort of behaviour from anyone in the general public!”

“I know that this has effected your confidence but please, don’t blame yourself! Some people are unfortunately just like that. They always act aggressively thinking they need to be the top dog...these people aren’t worth your time or words! They do NEED guidance but it can’t come from you - unfortunately it will have to come from someone who can put them in handcuffs to further educate them.

Try to chalk it up to a learning experience and move on! The next person that comes along like that you will know how to deal with ~ you walking away doesn’t mean they won either. It shows you are the more decent person.”

What you want might take a lifetime to attain - but you can take steps forward to accomplishing that goal. It might be hard to do that but in the end you’ll be much happier than if you settled for less.”
