Safewear Twestival! How human are we?

Bangladesh. On tweet search, we're known for the latest building breakdown which killed more than 200 garment workers and the last moment fire crashed every hope of saving the last few human trapped inside the building. People from all walks of life volunteered days and nights to find trapped living bodies as many as possible. The heartfelt initiative from several youth organisations is one of the most cherishable fact of the event. Even today,Bangladeshi students-executives-businessmen are contributing to their level extent from everywhere around the globe.

I fear this cry will dry down soon and unlike most, some of the garment factory owners (generally the politically backed ones) will still keep on running the business without precautionary safety measures.

We can call ourselves good men and wear great clothes produced with absolute quality conformity. However, behind the good outlook, there lies intolerable hardship of thousands of hands working with complete determination just to earn enough to live.

Standing against Gap or other big brands will only increase the cost of wearing t-shirts by greater margin and kick further into the stomach of those garment workers who are at least earning something to bear the cost children's 2 meals-a-day. Rather, we shall establish a global voice and ask the Global brands to establish a "Safe Workplace Assurance Team (SWAT)" in highly productive countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, China, India etc.

May be a Twestival or a meetup could make the change through social media. Shall we raise the voice for a SWAT team and can we raise enough money globally to create a sustainable project for all those victims of the recent garment accident. So many of them won't be able to walk anymore, some won't be able to work with those trained hands anymore...
