From Hobby to Purpose: Building Smoke-N-Focus Through New Media Journalism
When I started this journey, my goal was to build something I enjoy that I can do from home. A hobby that could possibly grow into a business. What I didn’t know at the time was how much impact that path could actually have.
This course changed how I see that.
I used to think supporting causes, especially nonprofits, meant donating money or asking others to give. But what I’ve learned is that storytelling is just as powerful...maybe more. When you highlight Real People doing Real work, you’re not just raising awareness, you’re creating value that might not otherwise be produced. You’re helping organizations grow, connect, and be seen in a way that is unique.
That’s where Smoke-N-Focus Media comes in.
“Real People. Real Stories. Real Good.” isn’t just a tagline, t’s a responsibility that I have grown into throughout this program at Full Sail University. As a veteran, a journalist, and a member of my community, I’ve realized I have access and trust that not everyone has...and I think that matters. It opens doors to stories that deserve to be told...But with that comes accountability.
Following journalism standards...accuracy, fairness, transparency...isn’t optional. It’s the foundation of everything. If I’m going to build something Real, it has to be built on credibility, my credibility.
Moving forward I will continue developing Smoke-N-Focus into a structured media platform that combines storytelling, community engagement, and partnerships. I will build something that is sustainable and if it all comes together, something meaningful.
This started as a hobby...now it’s a mission. Let's Go!!!
