My dad doesn’t talk about gender with me super often but he was saying that trans rights are the big issue with Trump being elected and I said “For me personally yeah” and he said “No, for all of us. Because you’re a part of this family and you’re a part of our lives.”

And… I don’t really have anything to add to that. I’m just glad my family loves me I suppose even if they do drive me crazy sometimes. Even if some things are looking bleak.

My seasonal contract ended this week and I'll be unemployed for 2.5 months.

My partner lost two different jobs because the company dissolved the position.

My brother lost his job of 7 years to an AI chat bot.

My friend lost her job because someone was uncomfortable working with a Trans woman.

Companies will end your contract over stupid petty shit and even if you quit because it's a shit job then that's saving yourself from further hurt and even if you got fired because of no call-no show who gives a shit and if you can't, literally can not get a job then it's no one's business-

Let's all just agree that it sucks out here and anyone that's scraping by is trying their best and no amount of 'making coffee at home' is gonna change your circumstances.

The way the government treats homeless people and panhandlers ought to be evidence enough on its own that empathy doesn't always lead to ethical behavior. Middle and upper class people get uncomfortable seeing homeless people because seeing someone in a bad state triggers an uncomfortable empathic response. They feel bad seeing people suffering. But people respond by trying to remove the source of their discomfort just as often as they respond with compassion.

That's why cities respond with hostile architecture and brutality. They just need to make the problem invisible, and people stop complaining.

Empathy is very useful, but it's no substitute for actual ethical principles.
