Information-tech services industry sees at least 20-percent growth this year
The information-technology (IT) services industry, a subsector under the information technology and business- process outsourcing (IT-BPO) industry, is poised to notch at least a 20-percent growth this year on the back of continued growth of IT-BPO firms and an increase of local technology start-ups. Jonathan de Luzuriaga, president of the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA), also said he sees the subsector to increase its employees, from the current count of almost 88,000 full-time workers to breaching the 100,000 mark by the end of the year. Labor supply main constraint to BPO growth in PHL regions DAVAO CITY -- The city’s business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is expected to continue its robust growth in the next few years but its sustainability will largely depend on the availability of qualified manpower. “Davao City is the largest recipient of tenants in the call center industry in 2014 and it will probably continue in the next years,” said David Leechiu, a property consultant and former country chief of Jones Lang La Salle, a professional services and investment management company specializing in real estate. Data from the Information Technology and Business Process Association of the Philippines show there are around 33,000 BPO full-time equivalent workers in the city as of 2014.
