"I was never scared of this Naim" EXCEPT HE WAS!!!! The reason why it says that is because it knows that Naim wants Ryan to be his savior and protector!!!
LEVITICUS 2026
realizing that my obsession with the romantic horror and gothic media is born out of my insane fear of being in love and what it does to me. i'm js romanticizing my trauma responses and the fact that i can't talk to girls or read social cues.
maybe a part of me feels like i am the monster in all those stories... yo do i have internalized homophobia????
i need to be shot
if i had 80 minutes left to live i’d be rewatching leviticus. like this is it for me we formed a bond
holy shit joe bird cries really well
Leviticus Headcanons:
Ryan is THE white guy who really fucks with keeping the fire going. He's finding a big ass stick and he's poking those coals like it's his job.
Naim once threw a pillow at Ryan so hard it knocked him out of his chair and he busted his head on a table. He needed five stitches and sitting in the ED, after Naim's 80th apology, Ryan just shrugged and said "At least it was really you this time". Naim did not find this funny.
Naim's daily screen time clocks in at around 10 hours.
Ryan's phone screen is so shattered it sometimes leaves glass bits in your finger.
On the morning of his first real job interview, Ryan woke up with the biggest hickey either of them had ever seen. He found this much funnier than Naim did.
Chronic insomniac Ryan which sucks ASS because he can't leave the room for obvious reasons. So it's just a lot of him lying in bed staring at a shitty motel ceiling listening to Naim snore. He can't complain.
Naim gave himself a stick and poke of a bird. It looks like shit.
Their debit card once declined when all they were buying was lube and milk.
Ryan buzzed all his hair off. Naim wouldn't speak to him for two days. He was trying to ignore him all week but he could only manage the two days.
New genre in pending
leviticus juxtaposing industrialism with the the unruly wildness of the australian bush. factories and powerlines and fences symbolising colonialist supplanting, historically linked with conformity & repression. meanwhile the bush, shot beautifully with a sense of calm and natural rightness, is freedom from those things. the mill where ryan and naim go to be themselves is abandoned and falling apart--fear still present, still controlling, but rusted and fragile. naim at the end of the film destroying the mill with fire, a tool that has been used on country by indigenous people for thousands of years to make way for new growth. idk is this anything
Thinking about Naim Reid. Thinking about Naim going to the pastor and his wife. Thinking about Naim going to a police station and coming out to a cop.
Thinking about how the beginning of the movie introduces the idea that he is so fearful — afraid of the snake, afraid of heights, and the threat of the spider. Afraid of his and Ryan’s reflection as they’re making out. He’s so scared, and he’s just a kid, and we see over and over again this childlike trust he has in the people who are supposed to help him.
Why does he go to Hunter’s parents? Obviously there was some aspect of jealously, but Hunter and Ryan were also actively hurting each other. He doesn’t just watch them make out. He watches them pelt each other with fucking rocks and I think it was scary enough for him to regress into the idea that they genuinely needed help.
So, he does what he was raised to do. He asks for help. He watches Hunter get dragged in to the dark and he goes to the cops and he asks for help. He has that nightmare and he asks his mom for help. He’s attacked by an evil entity and he runs into the gas station asking for help and NO ONE IS HELPING HIM. Not the church, not the cops, or Izzy, or his mom.
In the end at the mill, entity Ryan tells him again that they want him to be afraid. Then in the daylight IN THAT SAME PLACE his mom confirms it. She tells him he needs fear. HE ALREADY HAS IT. He was already afraid at the beginning of the movie!!!! He’s been afraid the whole fucking time !!!!
And as my good personal friend Henry Chang once said “If you cannot be unafraid, be afraid and happy.”
So, he stops asking for help. He runs, and Ryan is there, and they cannot be unafraid but they will be happy — and I guess I’ll just be thinking about it for the rest of my life
I know you don't believe me …but ever since you took me to that guy... I've been getting hurt. Ryan's been getting hurt too.
ryan whelan + words
What do we think of a non entity beach au?
Lifeguard Ryan who swims in his freetime, maybe tried surfing, he can stand on a board but cant do much else with it
Cafe worker Naim, small smoothie/slush place on the beach that Ryan likes to come hang out in on his break.
On Ryans breaks he takes a quick dip in the water then walks over to naims shop and starts pestering him.
He also shakes his curls like a dog
Naims got his order memorized
One day Ryan was working the last shift, so was Naim, and he got a drink from Naim before he officially closed, and Naim hands it to him and is like "anything else?" And ryans like "yeah your number" with a little smirk. Naim js rolls his eyes and brushes it off as a joke, the next day Ryan tries again and he gives him it
Also ryans always got some kind of sun burn. He tries to cover himself in sunscreen but sometimes you miss a spot. His shoulders/nose/cheeks are always a little pink
just saw this clip of stacy talking abt the scene of naim's frst encounter with the entity at hunter's funeral and explaining how the entity targets naim by mimicking ryan's lust bc it's whole design is to link desire with fear. though naim is crying and shaken it doesn't offer words of comfort, it pulls him in for a rough kiss and tries to arouse him--targeting naim's sexual desire specifically. only once naim responds, kissing back with fervour, does it become violent. because the entity's main goal is to link fear and desire in naim's mind. pavlovian conditioning: by associating arousal with violence and fear, any feelings of lust and desire will be avoided. that's why the church enacts the ritual. they don't want queer kids dead, they want them scared. the goal has always been conformity. we need fear. fear is how we survive.
but when naim's last act in the face of what could be his death is to reach up and gently cup the entity's face, it falters. because to the people who set this thing upon ryan and naim and hunter, love was never part of the equation. the church puts so much emphasis on lust and desire because that's all queerness is to these people--sexual immorality condemned by God. and that's why the entity, a tool used by religious folk to scare kids away from their queerness and force them to conform, ultimately fails to drive ryan and naim apart.
